MS in Computer Science - Batch of 2026
4.1
Vigorous curriculum and great student life.
Tips: The university itself is really good in terms of studies, but it is the job scenario that anyone should be careful of. Any courses that are being offered are really great compared to India, where you might not get this much detailed studies and won't learn what you can learn here.
Likes (Safety): Paderborn city itself is one of the safest cities compared to other metropolitan cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt or Munich. I personally never heard about anyone getting discriminated against or being harassed in here. These things are not that common here.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I saw my friends completing their master's and still not getting jobs for 1 or even 2 years. I mean, eventually you will get a job, but be prepared to do some odd jobs even after studying, as it is not guaranteed that you will get a job when you just finish.

A supportive, enriching, and culturally diverse university experience.
Tips: Students should be aware that the college is academically strong and has good facilities, but it requires self-discipline and active participation. Basic knowledge of the local language is beneficial for daily life. The initial transition was smooth, and people are generally helpful.
Likes (Public transportation): The system here is highly efficient, reliable, and well-integrated with the daily needs of students and professionals. The infrastructure is designed in such a way that one rarely feels the need to rely heavily on private vehicles, as the coverage and frequency of public transport options make commuting smooth and stress-free.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The process is structured but comes with uncertainties. My chances of permanent settlement are fairly good if I meet the criteria. I would like to immigrate, given the right opportunity, and language is a major concern.

Apartments are affordable, with good facilities and friendly surroundings.
Tips: Be prepared for a minimum of 3 years. There are no scholarships available. I felt stressed and spent almost 4 years here, completing my Master's and earning 55,000 euros annually. My friends who spent 4 years working in India, gained experience, and then came directly for work, are earning 70,000 euros. Overall, I am not satisfied with the university.
Likes (Safety): Apartments are cheap and good, with good facilities and friendly surroundings, all within walking distance of the university. I had very positive experiences with the campus and apartments, as they were clean and cozy, and the city is beautiful.
Dislikes (Student Life): The course structure is demanding. There are many assignments, and the subjects are challenging. Students need to dedicate a lot of time to studying, completing one subject per semester over four years. I wouldn't recommend this university if you're looking to enjoy and travel. While you can make friends and participate in events, completing a Master's degree might be difficult.

3.1
Practical learning and good career opportunities at Paderborn.
Tips: Be prepared for self-study. Lectures may not always cover everything. Also, some admin processes can be slow, so plan ahead. I felt a shift, especially in communication style. People are more direct here, and everything runs on time. I adapted gradually and now feel comfortable. I didn't get any scholarship, but there are options like DAAD or university-specific ones. The course is relevant and practical, the university has good resources, and the country offers good job prospects after graduation.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are good job opportunities after graduation, especially in tech and engineering, but the process can be slow, and language skills sometimes matter. Many medium and large companies in Germany offer visa sponsorship, especially in the IT, automotive and finance sectors, but not all small companies do. Typical roles include Software Developer, Data Analyst, Electrical Engineer, and Business Analyst. Starting salaries typically range from 45,000 to 60,000 euros per year, depending on position and experience.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are very limited options for food from my home country. Even when available, the taste is not authentic, and the quality is inconsistent. There are mostly German, Italian and Turkish restaurants nearby. Prices vary: Budget options, such as Doner and Pizza, cost around 5-10 euros, mid-range options, such as Pasta, Schnitzel, are 10-20 euros, and higher-end places are 25 euros and above. I prefer cooking at home. It's more affordable, and I can prepare food that tastes closer to what I'm used to.

3.5
Interesting learning experience, but not easy.
Tips: The courses are not extremely difficult, but it's also not possible to pass without putting in any effort. You have to work pretty hard to get very good grades. A major positive change is that I am no longer afraid of speaking up and asking questions during lectures. The professors were very encouraging and receptive to even the most minor doubts. Most of the internship opportunities I've found are from the career fair on campus, rather than the student jobs portal. The career fair is hosted once or twice a year on campus. Also, I've had some luck finding internships on LinkedIn. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Most of the professors I’ve interacted with are very approachable and passionate about the subjects they teach. I found almost all of the courses I attended to be very interesting. However, the professors also have high expectations, so be sure to attend the first few lectures to see if the course is the right fit for you.

Master of Science in Business computing - Batch of 2025
3.7
Paderborn University is vibrant and centered on academic excellence.
Tips: Get good at time management so you can plan your stuff and hit deadlines on your own. Learn how to budget, handle tuition, keep your living costs in check, and look into scholarships. Keep an eye on your spending and find funding options ahead of time. Sharpen your research, critical thinking, and communication skills. Get familiar with your subject before you start. Be ready for school and life challenges with a positive attitude and ways to deal with stress.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Clear, structured immigration pathways for international graduates exist. Policies like post-study work visas and skilled migration programs give graduates practical experience, which is often a major step toward permanent residency.
Dislikes (Student Life): Outdoor events with music, food, and games. Friendly competitions for all skill levels. Movie screenings for relaxation. Seminars and guest talks ranging from academic to TEDx-style events. Opportunities for skill-building and networking. Celebrations of diversity, food, and dance. Community service and awareness programs.

OVGU is a research-oriented college.
Tips: OVGU is a research-oriented college. Professors will assume that master's students have a basic understanding of the topic, as if they studied it in their bachelor's degree. Therefore, you need to do a lot of self-study, assignments, and research work. Besides that, student life is fun and vibrant. We have different activities for different events.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transport across Germany is really nice. As students, we get a Deutschland semester ticket, which includes free transportation within the city. For travelling outside the city, we can use the Regional Bahn and Regional Express for free. This helps students travel easily.
Dislikes (Part time work): Currently, the part-time situation in Magdeburg is not that great, and students are finding it difficult to get a part-time job. A major challenge that a student is facing here is the language barrier, and most companies are not hiring students as they need full-time people and not part-time.

Master of Science Electrical Engineering and Information Technology - Batch of 2026
Offered by Otto Von Guericke University Magdeburg
4.4
Otto Von Guericke Universität is a technical university and more research-focused.
Tips: OVGU is a technical university, which means the studies here are designed to be more research-focused. If you are looking to do a Ph.D., then the university curriculum is pretty good, but if you just want a Master's degree and then want a professional career, go for a Hochschule instead.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The university faculty as a whole is quite good, the professors and the staff are really helpful and approachable, also they emphasise more on hands-on training rather than taking a theoretical approach. OVGU maintains a low student-to-teacher ratio, which helps in easy and direct interactions.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are a few Indian restaurants, but even those are catered more towards the German taste palette, so being Indian, you might not like the taste as much. Also, if you're a vegetarian, your outside food choices are limited, and most of the time, you'll have to cook your own meals.

The faculty is highly qualified, but the content delivery and explanation can be improved.
Tips: Before attending Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, have a good knowledge of your field of study, and know the job market around you. Being proficient in the German language would boost your chances of getting a job and of mingling with people. Finally, know how to cook, as eating at restaurants is quite expensive.
Likes (Public transportation): The public transportation in Magdeburg is really good. It is very easy to use and frequently available. Moreover, as a public university student, I don't need to pay for a ticket, which gives me a lot of flexibility to explore the region and learn more about different areas. Even though it is a small city, Magdeburg has extremely convenient public transport available 24/7.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is highly qualified, but the content delivery and explanation can be improved. Practical examples and experiments can also improve the understanding of the students. The faculty are also leading research in some leading companies but they assume that we as students are at the same page as they are.

Assessing permanent settlement prospects in Magdeburg, Germany.
Tips: Magdeburg has a lot of Indians, including where I go to university. I personally didn't feel any culture shock, and it was really nice. I didn't get a scholarship, but I got into a public university, so I don't have to pay for my education. And I'm very satisfied with the university, Magdeburg and the country.
Likes (Public transportation): Magdeburg is very close to Berlin. Public transportation is also great here. Even late at night, we can find night trams and buses also few trains. It is very affordable, and we even get a semester ticket to travel. Overall, public transportation is the best.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Germany is a great place to settle. A country with one of the best work-life balances. If you are good with German language skills, then this is the best country to settle and work in. If I get a chance, I will definitely settle here. This place is also very calm and nature-friendly.

Life at OVGU thriving as an Indian student.
Tips: There are a lot of Indian students at Otto-von-Guericke, and there is a big Indian student community, so don't expect to find many Germans on campus. We celebrate Diwali and other festivals. It can be great to have lots of Indian students and not so great for some people, so it really depends on the person.
Likes (Value for money): There are no tuition fees. There is only a semester fee, and that too is really low as compared to other Indian universities, and these fees include my transportation, my library access, and all student-related activities for free. It is really justifiable.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent immigration depends on the future and the future job market. Plus, it depends on how the government will allow this, since the new government is forming, and there are some parties that are really against immigrants. It really depends, but if I got the chance, sure.

The University organises a variety of student clubs, events, including movie nights, marathons, etc.
Tips: It took me a while to fully get used to the environment here. There were some cultural shifts because a lot of people here are quite laid back about their academics and don't mind extending their duration of study, unlike most Indians. Also, it is absolutely necessary to be fluent in German when coming here for your Bachelor's because the teachers will be expecting you to know it already and will not be that much sympathetic regarding your proficiency, although it still depends on person to person.
Likes (Student Life): The University organises a variety of student clubs and events, including movie nights, marathons, and other activities, which keep students involved and engaged. They also organise events for festivals such as Diwali and Christmas that the huge Indian student population enjoys and feels connected with. The diversity on campus is great.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There aren't many Indian food options here if you prefer to order, and what options are available are also pretty expensive. The Indian food is also not really authentic, so unless you travel to a bigger city like Berlin, I would say it's not worth it. I prefer cooking by myself.

Great academics and highly engaging student life.
Tips: Be mentally and physically prepared to tackle all challenges at the same time. While studying, you will need to earn money to survive, so be prepared and don't stress about it. In the end, it will all work out perfectly. You can also apply for scholarships, and if you get a good grade, then you will get 800 euros every month, roughly.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is very welcoming and supportive. Classes are enjoyable and engaging. Assignments and project work are fun to do. Public transportation is highly affordable and accessible. Try to explore the city and the culture as much as you can.

The university is academically good and the faculty are experts in their field.
Tips: Be aware that there will be several cultural changes here that you'll have to adapt to. In hotels, everyone pays for their own dinner. Scholarships do exist, but you need to show you’re an excellent student and volunteer a bit for a chance at receiving one. There are many stores where you can find your traditional food or any food stuff, and in case you need anything specific, they can also order it for you. Restaurants are also good options to get traditional food instead of cooking it yourself, which takes a lot of time and effort. Post-study jobs, especially in the field, are very difficult because you need to get past the language barrier. Then you have to be very motivated, as it will take around 3-4 months to find a full-time job in the field. Finally, you should be ready to move to another city if you accept one of these job offers.

3.9
Well structured course and real-time problem learning.
Tips: The transition was smooth as I had learned German before coming to Germany. The cultural shock I experienced was the work-life balance and more emphasis on mental health. I did not avail myself of any scholarship as my university is public. Everything I want is provided for no extra cost, except the semester fee, which is the bare minimum.
Likes (Value for money): The overall qualification of education, access to resources, and exposure to advanced technologies justify the semester fee cost. The curriculum is well organised for industry knowledge. The studies are more practical and real-world challenge-based. There are also options of working under a professor to tackle some real-world issues as projects, along with studies.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are German restaurants where you find currywurst burgers for 15 to 20 euros per meal, there are Italian restaurants where you find pizza and pasta for 8 to 12 euros per meal, and there are Turkish Kebab shops where you can have fries and pizza for 5 to 10 euros per meal, however, there are limited authentic restaurants available and they don't have the traditional authentic taste I was looking for. I prefer cooking my food.

Very limited work opportunities.
Tips: When I attended Otto von Guericke University, the semester fee was low because it is a public university. Fortunately, housing was inexpensive. But, there weren't very many part-time jobs available. Public transportation was fairly inexpensive, and they have recently added the Deutschland ticket to the program at a discounted rate. If you are considering a program here, these are factors to consider.

A gateway to exciting professional opportunities and experience.
Tips: Students should know that learning German can open up a lot of new opportunities. Attend as many classes as possible, connect with professors, and work on projects related to current research topics. The city is peaceful and beautiful. There is the Elbe River just behind the college and one can go there for an evening stroll.
Likes (Value for money): The city offers good accommodation at cheaper prices and is affordable. Using the student card, one can travel for free on the trams and regional trains, so transportation is sorted. Also, the campus has a mess that offers various food options for students at subsidized rates.
Dislikes (Part time work): It is hard to find on-campus part-time jobs. Most of the time, one has to be in contact with the professors and be aware of the recent research topics. Then one can approach them to ask for jobs, but openings are limited. However, one can find jobs in companies in nearby cities or remote jobs. In IT-related fields, there are many openings, but most jobs require German proficiency.
