MS in Data Science - Batch of 2024
3.9
I would say that the University and the area around is calm and immersed in nature.
Tips: There is very little cultural shift transitioning to the university as there are many people from the community around the area. Students applying to the university should consider sending their GRE scores, even though it is not mandatory, as it evaluates the percentage of scholarships you could get. I am satisfied with my university and the area around me.
Likes (Part time work): There are plenty of part-time jobs available on campus. People should keep looking for the postings frequently there are plenty of opportunities posted in the portals every week. As students can work a maximum of 20 hours per week, the work is pretty easy to manage. The average payout is $15 per hour.
Dislikes (Internships): There is a lot of guidance available for internships but there aren't enough internships available in the Rochester Area. The career fair that happens in the university won't be much of use for this and CS Students as most of the companies look for US citizens or majors in core areas like Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

It's a decent college in a not so expensive city.
Tips: Mostly everyone gets a scholarship. There is a lot of difference in culture. With time everyone adapts. You will find some great teachers and subjects. Try to get a research assistant on-campus job. Not a lot to do in the city, in fact quite boring, so make some good friends.
Likes (Part time work): Plenty of options and mostly everyone gets an on-campus job. You can check the website for more information. Dining services, teaching assistant and research assistant are the most common on-campus jobs. You can't work outside for the first 9 months.
Dislikes (Safety): Rochester is not a safe city, some areas are really dangerous. Staying on campus is a better option. Areas like the 19th award witness crimes on a regular basis. University has done well by introducing Public safety but by no means the crimes have topped.

Good public transportation.
Tips: Beware of job scenarios, things could be difficult, so research before coming in. Look into seniors and ask them for advice whenever possible. Start prepping for jobs and internships early on. Focus on creating a network with different people of different cultures.
Likes (Public transportation): There is a good public transportation bus service called RTA Roam in Rochester and is really helpful. You can see the bus location on an app and plan your schedule. The University also has its own coloured line for bus. That helps too. They have an app as well.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I have no idea about it. Frankly, everything depends on whether you get a job or you choose the Ph.D. track. University cannot help much in this case as it is student-by-student dependent. Think before what you want to do and plan accordingly. Be flexible as well.

A friendly and academic-oriented experience.
Tips: Students are going to get the best experience possible if they try to relax and learn a little French before coming. I also had a scholarship through my university, which gave me a 10,000 EUR discount on my tuition fees. I think the most unique aspect is their blend of practical and theoretical learning. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experience.
Likes (Safety): I have a strong network within the college and study there daily. I've joined two student associations, TEDx and Open Up. I most enjoy the social aspect and friendships. There are events throughout the year, whether festivals, soirees, or special events, and they are all great.
Dislikes (Student Life): The faculty are very well-qualified and always available to help. They have a good study curriculum. While most teachers are French, they have extensive international experience and speak English well.

MiM in Data Science and AI for Business - Batch of 2027

Intense courses, active campus life, and early scholarship wins.
Tips: If you're considering applying do it early. The university has strict deadlines for scholarship applications, and applying before March significantly increases your chances. In fact, almost everyone who applies before this date receives one. The courses are rigorous and demand independent preparation. Don't expect an easy pace you'll need to research topics in advance to get the most out of your classes. Make it a habit to read textbooks from the library and watch YouTube lectures. The campus stays vibrant well into the evening, with students around until at least 8 p.m. most days. There's always something going on, whether it's study groups, events, or casual meet-ups.
Likes (Post study jobs): Most companies offer visa sponsorship but the job market is competitive, so expect to send out hundreds of applications before getting a response. Many roles require at least some French, but the university offers language classes to help, and reaching B1 from a beginner level is very achievable. The career centre also provides strong support with CVs, job searches, and interview preparations.
Dislikes (Part time work): The academic workload is intense so most students choose not to take up part time jobs. I am not aware of any on-campus opportunities, but there are restaurants and bars nearby where you can find work. The college doesn't place any restrictions on part time employment as long as it doesn't interfere with your studies.

It is a great university with a diverse faculty and a beautiful campus.
Tips: You need to know French. This is the only requirement if you want equal opportunities as other students. It is not a good-to-have requirement. I emphasise that students who do not speak or understand the language should refrain from applying to the institution.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is extremely helpful to international students, they are very responsive and do care about the welfare of the students. You can always write to them or book an appointment at the office for any issues. Their measure to ensure student needs are well looked after is very high.
Dislikes (Safety): The campus is located in a town outside of Lille called Roubaix, due to the high concentration of immigrants the city is not safe for children. There have been several instances of theft and being held at knifepoint for money. It is not recommended to step out alone after dark as the streets are not safe but if you live in Lille then it is okay.

EDHEC is swiftly rising up the ranks because of the student career centre.
Tips: I recommend learning basic French before attending EDHEC Business School. While it's possible to get by without French, it's the only way to fully integrate into French culture. EDHEC offers many scholarships, which are easy to apply for and receive. I've received multiple job offers even before graduation because of EDHEC's reputation in France.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty both visiting and permanent are Masters of their fields. The pedagogy is to learn while you're practicing, so you understand concepts rather than mugging them. The faculty is very approachable and you can meet them anytime with an appointment. They are very diverse and are from all around the world.
Dislikes (Part time work): If you don't speak French, it's difficult to find part-time jobs off campus. However, on campus you can apply for TA positions and internships that pay well. If you don't speak French, you can work in Indian restaurants off campus, which pay around 100-150.

EDHEC Business School has everything to offer to your personal & professional growth.
Tips: Students should be open to exploring people, food, culture, etc. Your cohort will be diverse and will be equally talented as you. Be open to learning new things, on a professional and personal level. Double down on your French language proficiency. Although you will be all right speaking English to integrate better within the campus and the city, make a serious effort to learn French. This will help boost your professional side as well during the job interviews.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is very convenient to get by in and around the city. There are buses, tramways, and metros to help you travel seamlessly. Also, one single transport card would be sufficient to travel anywhere in the Lille metropolitan area. With the student discount available on the transport card, it is the most optimal way to go.
Dislikes (Indian Food): No issues, particularly if you cook your food. When planning to eat out, although there are several Indian restaurants in Lille, the taste will not be close to what you might be used to eating back home. A majority of the Indian restaurants here are run by people from our neighbouring countries, so if you go there expecting an authentic taste of Indian food, you might be disappointed. That being said, those are the only options, so you might try them as well.

The college is good but lacks in providing student life.
Tips: French people are nice here, they can be a bit among themselves but if you make the effort, they can be nice to you. I got the EDHEC 15% scholarship, almost like everyone else in my batch. I am satisfied, it was what I expected, and it taught me things I am thankful for.
Likes (Indian Food): I was able to find Indian food at several restaurants in the area. The prices were a bit of a shock, but I was able to find what I was looking for. The grocery stores only had Chole (Pois Choices) and Rajma (Haricots), but I was able to find some Indian and Asian stores that had a wider selection.
Dislikes (Student Life): The sports facilities are reserved for French students. The slots provided always crash with mandatory French classes for international students. On raising this issue with authorities, was told to focus on learning French, as apparently, sports are not important enough.

Good city with good networking opportunities.
Tips: Before joining EDHEC, students should know that there is a language barrier and that they'll be studying in an international environment. The course is good, with a focus on both corporate and market finance. Do give a GMAT for scholarships. The public transportation is very good, especially for the Nice campus. Finally, the education is excellent, and you'll learn a lot.

You will get to learn a lot about business and diverse cultures.
Tips: Students should know that learning French should be a priority. Be prepared for a new experience in your academic life. It's different from India's academic structure. Coming from India, you would find everything expensive here, so you should learn how to cook, especially if you are a Vegetarian.
Likes (Public transportation): Good connections of bus, tram and metro. Lille is very cheap, you can buy monthly travel passes which could cost around 20-30 Euros. They are also safe and convenient. For students it is very cheap and the best mode of transportation. City Mapper and Google Maps, work well for assistance.
Dislikes (Internships): The guidelines given by the Career Centre were good but there is a huge language barrier in France. You should start connecting with your seniors and other alumni. They will give proper guidance on how Indians can land an internship in France or Europe.

The student life at EDHEC is great.
Tips: Students should be aware of the importance of knowing the French language and how people meet and greet in general is different. The school does provide scholarships for 10-50% of the total tuition fees. I am feeling optimistic about the opportunities that the school and the country provide and feel happy with the experience so far.
Likes (Internships): Almost every Indian that I know have received internships in good brands and the career centre did help us a lot to receive the internship. The internships vary from consulting to banking to marketing and also human resources, the opportunities are endless but we just have to understand a bit about the right door to knock at.
Dislikes (Part time work): There was a huge language barrier, as my knowledge of the language was limited, the opportunities for part-time jobs were less, and the school did not provide any part-time jobs/research opportunities from their side. Also, the part-time work schedule would be a bit clashing with the timings of classes.
