Tips: Before joining this college, students should be ready to take on coursework as soon as they start. Competition is tough because there is a big batch size. You will need to fight for your place. Make sure to learn how to cook because eating out is going to be expensive. Stop covering everything to the Dollar because you won't be able to survive.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is great because the college is very supportive. There are a lot of sports and advanced facilities. The campus has good food and a good vibe. LA as a city is amazing, there is so much to do. There is a little for everyone, city life, beaches, mountains, desert, culture, food and so much more.
Dislikes (Safety): LA as a city is very unsafe. There are homeless people everywhere on the street and even in public transport who come close to you and even try to engage unless you are careful. Travelling alone at night is very difficult and scary. There are crimes happening around every day.

The University is awesome, there is a lot of competition, sports, extracurriculars and party house.
Tips: Complete assignments on time, make sure to clear all subjects, and join extracurriculars like Table tennis, triathlon club and cycling etc., if you are not into all of this then don't bother coming to USC and save some money. USC is not merely for education but for the holistic development of self if you have missed that in Indian colleges.
Likes (Public transportation): I personally learnt skateboarding and life was so much easier than to walk the whole campus. So skateboarding + public transport I could travel anywhere in the city. USC also has unlimited free Lyft in 2 mile radius around the campus from 6 pm to 2 am. You can get the tap card at a discount for college students.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): In USA:
1. Post study jobs matter on the following:
a. Location of University. If you have done college from East Cost you will get a company call back from East Cost majorly and vice versa- the name of the college doesn't matter as much.
b. Experience: Your own experience matters. People with prior experience are more likely to secure jobs.
c. On campus companies: Very few companies that come on campus sponsor, so it is pretty much useless.

This place has a lot to offer. Student life is happening.
Tips: One should definitely do their due diligence with which course they plan on taking UPAT USC. It is definitely a great leap and transition coming to a new country and it will take some time to get yourself adjusted in the system. Getting habitual of doing everything on your own can also prove to be challenging. With time you will definitely find an on-campus job to support your living expenses and things will improve for the better. The key is to remain patient and stay consistent. USC as a university has a lot to offer, so don't be afraid to grab onto opportunities and get as involved as you can! Make the most of it and have a great time. Striking a balance between fun and work is equally important.
Likes (Student Life): There is always something going around in campus. The campus is forever hustling and bustling. I honestly feel the people you'll meet at USC will be great, I am sure there are exceptions but the student population is diverse and has a lot to offer. There are ample events conducted by AIS (Association of Indian Students) so you don't miss your key festivals away from home.
Dislikes (Safety): Safety is definitely a concern in Downtown Los Angeles. Even though USC makes more than sufficient efforts to keep its students safe, you will come across instances of crime a little too frequently for comfort. But I still feel safety is a matter of personal choices as well. So always make sure you're cautious and taking the right precautions.

Great but also expensive
Tips: As someone who is from Mumbai, moving to LA feels like a huge change. The city is huge but it is difficult to explore without a car. The people here are welcoming, and there are a lot of international students, especially from India. But it is expensive without a scholarship, and USC discontinued the Honours Scholarship programme so it is more difficult to fund your education now.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty at USC is really good. In the courses that I took, the faculty had a thorough understanding of all the topics and were super friendly and welcoming during their office hours. Even if you aren't able to reach the professors, there are TAs who are also really helpful most of the time.
Dislikes (Value for money): Although USC is a good school, it is quite expensive. There are a lot of students in some courses, and for those courses, the quality drops. I believe other universities that are less expensive have the same level of courses and an equal number of opportunities for internship and full-time jobs.

No complaints, great network for better opportunities.
Tips: Apply early for a chance at a scholarship. Culture is very open-minded but there are ethnic and religious events happening year-round. Extremely satisfied with my course, nothing to complain about. I am currently specializing in ML maybe a bit more practical courses could have been better.
Likes (Student Life): Great fun, lot of people to network with, strong alumni network. This creates a strong bond between people. I really liked the atmosphere which was present at the place.
It is very open minded, people can be what they want, express themselves. And also you can still connected to your culture and tradition through various clubs
Dislikes (Internships): The job market was bad in 2023, thus finding an internship was bad. Otherwise, it has been fine. USC has a decent track record of students landing good internships. But 2023 was such a year that only 700 new tech jobs was created. That caused problems mainly.

Expensive college, stressful course
Tips: You will have to be mentally strong before coming to the US, as it gets stressful at times. You have to do all things yourself like cooking, on-campus job, studies, finding full time employment. My course in VLSI is very stressful. It is fairly difficult and keeps you on your toes for at least 2 semesters. At the time of writing this review, markets are not that good, so finding a job is getting very difficult and stressful. I wish I had relevant experience before coming here.
Likes (Indian Food): In Los Angeles, there are numerous Indian restaurants. Some of them are decently priced and some are expensive, based on the ambiance. Generally, you can find good restaurants without any issues. As a reference, Chicken Biryani at a good restaurant typically ranges from USD 18 to USD 25. I try to save money by cooking my own food.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The immigration backlog for Indians coming to this country is extensive. The expected time for permanent residency is more than 100 years, so it is not possible for permanent settlement. Also, opportunities in India are growing exponentially. I plan to go back after my studies. I would be living peacefully in my country without any daily stress of losing a job and having to leave the country.

The rich sporty college.
Tips: I feel that my university is expensive and because of the current job market, the investment was not worth it. Other than that, everything seemed fine. They encourage co-curricular activities. The environment here is very diverse and you can make good friends.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Professors over here are really knowledgeable. They know what they teach. They have office hours and encourage students to be interactive. PhD is something that professors here support. Overall I feel that it's great academically. That would be it.
Dislikes (Part time work): The number of students In USC is humongous, and the part-time job openings are relatively fewer. It's kind of hard to get a part-time on-campus job. I would recommend students to hunt for jobs at the lab. Even though it's difficult, it would be worth it.

Tips: The courses are heavy, and the university is quite academically oriented. It is also a very expensive university, so you should take courses that suit you well (these courses are competitive and difficult). It is also an expensive endeavour to live off campus, but there are great student housing and security measures like free Lyft, and security is provided by the university.
Likes (Student Life): There are many on-campus events for students. Other than that, there are hundreds of student-run clubs catering to any hobby you might have. The campus is pretty big as well brimming with things happening any time you go to campus. There is also an app for you to stay up to date with all events.
Dislikes (Safety): Los Angeles is notorious for being an unsafe city. There are constant reports of assault or robbery. But the college has noted this and has free Lyft and security patrol zones. Other than that, the public transport is shady, filled with people who are most probably high.

Exceptionally qualified teaching faculty.
Tips: Before joining any college in the US, students should be aware that they will struggle at some point. They will make bad decisions, lose track of time, don't get enough time to cook and might even get bad grades. However, they have to motivate and keep on trying. USC has taught me a lot and groomed my entire personality. This is a continuous learning process and it takes time to reach the goals set.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Most of the Computer Science faculty on campus are exceptionally qualified and willing to help students in every possible manner. They take student feedback into consideration and offer make-up assignments as well. Teaching methodology involves theory + practical application with a focus on clearing fundamentals. Classes are fun but that depends upon student interest. The teaching faculty is diverse and understanding.
Dislikes (Safety): USC has partnered with DPS (Depth. Of Public Safety, under LAPD) to ensure patrolling of areas around the campus during night time. There are security personnel (USC Yellow Jackets) placed at strategic locations to monitor the area. However, students sometimes face incidents related to cycle theft, burglary, fondling, etc. due to negligence and the homeless population around the area.

Excellent faculty at the film school.
Tips: There is a culture shock for sure, despite assuming that I know everything cause I saw all the TV shows so couldn't be more wrong. The film course is under the school of cinematic arts, which is known to be quite competitive. The faculty of the film school includes renowned names in the industry, and they train you to keep up with the industry standard.
Likes (Student Life): There are clubs, societies, and networking for everyone if you seek it out. It is centrally located so you have access to various necessities and leisure. They have sports facilities for those that are inclined towards that. I joined several clubs and ended up meeting a lot of like-minded people, which definitely helps in adjusting to a new country.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent immigration options are easier for STEM majors, although there are plenty of options for other fields as well all across the spectrum. I personally wanted to get back to India and pursue filmmaking in Bombay, although if you network well enough, there are collaborative opportunities that you can pursue with other international students.

Tips: USC is very expensive. Apart from that, the university boosts a number of labs which provide ample research opportunities. The student population is very diverse. It also has a huge Indian population. Courses are difficult to register for because of the large class size.
Likes (Public transportation): I found public transport non-reliable due to erratic schedule and it is not very safe. The campus shuttle is not very frequent. Most students use personal means to travel to the campus. Hence, it is important that you stay close to the campus.
Dislikes (Internships): We received very limited help from the university. The Office of International Services (OIS) sometimes does not provide enough support to international students. The career services do not provide personalized help. The career fairs are also not that great.

Likes (Quality of faculty): The quality of faculty is 5/5. They make your efforts count in every possible manner. It is very easy to reach out to the professors and they are always willing to help students out of their domain as well. Mental peace and health are given importance. Professors are always ready to listen to students which is all that an international student needs sometimes.
Dislikes (Safety): Safety in Los Angeles has been quite an issue for students over here. Public transportation is not the first option for many students when traveling alone. I have witnessed incidents where safety of people in LA is compromised. Homelessness is a major concern over here.

Tips: Hard work is the key and try to connect with Alumni and get suggestions for subjects. Prepare LeetCode for technical interviews. Talk to the professors before getting enrolled in a subject regarding which you are doubtful, as every course has its own fees and structure.
Likes (Safety): The university has its own team to take care of it. They have free Lyft app for certain areas and cruise availability for students. They have security people in the campus to watch over students' activities during off hours and at nights, they make sure that nothing wrong happens.
Dislikes (Value for money): Other cheaper universities can provide the same experience and better education in some subjects. Also, other universities might have more flexible syllabus to do what you want in a particular field. Assignments are pretty hectic for some courses.

University of Southern California- A great school with great spirit.
Tips: Perhaps the biggest cultural shock was the variety of choices in the grocery stores. Plus, by default, most of the food items have added sugar, so I had to make sure to read the fine print to choose the ones that did not. I'm very satisfied with the university and the course. I was funded by a research project for my PhD program. It provided tuition and a stipend of around $2500 per month (it is now increased due to inflation). Also, my advice to the incoming student is to explore the campus, sports, college activities, and clubs to the fullest. Do not be stuck in just the academic bubble because US university experiences are very enriching and can have a tangible impact on your personality as well as your career.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Just like most US cities except for cities like Texas, NJ, etc, Indian food restaurants are a hit or a miss. Even if you find a good restaurant, they are expensive too because it's LA. So I prefer cooking or on days I'm extremely busy, I rely on sandwiches/soups which are healthier swaps. But LA is a foodie's paradise. So there are many options to explore especially Mexican food so I personally never missed Indian food.

USC is a decent university
Tips: The neighborhood the university is located in is not the safest, so you will have a tough time adjusting here. It is not the prettiest either and a far cry from the ideas that were fed to you about LA.
There are no scholarships offered and getting a job on campus too is very hard given the high demand.
There are better locations and universities in the US that would serve better to people who are new to the US.
Likes (Student Life): There are quite a few student clubs and events happening on campus but you need to be the one to track them and put in the effort to attend them. They aren't always the most productive but you do enjoy yourself. The masters courses are usually late in the day so it does give you time to participate in other activities early in the day.
Dislikes (Public transportation): You have free lyft around campus. You also are given a public transport pass so it's decent that way but not the most convenient or safe. But if you need to go anywhere far you will need to buy a car or use Uber which can get quite expensive. On campus, many students just use a cycle.

Tips: Taking admission at the University of Birmingham was an enriching experience. While I initially experienced a cultural shift, I adjusted over time. I also received a merit-based scholarship with allowance support and am very satisfied with the university, course, and overall UK experience.
Likes (Safety): I felt secure both inside and outside of the college. Besides campus security, there are CCTV cameras, well-lit streets, emergency help, and regular police patrols. My overall experience in the city has been positive, with locals being helpful and friendly.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are limited choices from my home country. The area has a mix of cafes, fast-food chains, and some mid-range Asian restaurants. While prices are moderate, regular dining out can be expensive, so I prefer cooking at home.

Tips: You need to learn to manage your time well. In my course, we hardly had any breaks, and during term time, it was difficult to have a work-life balance. I came across some people who are not mentally prepared for it. I did not get any time for a part-time job during my term times as I had multiple exams, assignments, and a dissertation along with a tight lecture schedule from 9 am to 6 pm. However, it's not the same for all courses. Most of the courses have only Assignments and absolutely no exams at all, and their lecture schedule is also quite flexible. In other universities in Birmingham, such as Aston, the lecture schedule is quite flexible, which gives students ample amount of time to pursue part-time jobs.
Likes (Student Life): For those who are proactive, believe in taking initiative and want to excel in their career, the University of Birmingham offers endless opportunities for growth. They host various job fairs, career seminars, personality development and skill enhancement seminars, intercultural awareness workshops for international students and formal English modules that you can add to your course and all without any additional fees.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Recently UK has updated their post-study work visa policy, amending the duration for PSW from 2 years to 1 Year 6 months. The time limit for getting citizenship has been increased from 5 years previously to 10 years now, which makes the UK a tough call for someone looking for settlement. Moreover, taxes are super high, which makes the UK unfeasible as an option to settle abroad.

The road to pushing and knowing your limits.
Tips: It taught me a lot of things. I used to be an introvert and had no confidence in talking to strangers, but it brought me out of my shell. I learned how to cook, take care of my finances, look for a house, etc. I am now a much more confident person. Not a lot, but just that people here are pretty self-involved in both good and bad ways. There aren't a lot of scholarships for B-Schools, but like 2-3 people in our class got them from the University. I didn't get one. I believe the university holds a good reputation, and the course was newly launched, so I wouldn't judge it yet because they are improving their curriculum, but it was quite easy, not as stressful as I had thought.
Likes (Public transportation): The University is quite well connected, which was one of the most comfortable aspects. The campus is huge, so you'll have to walk a little, but it's quite good, actually. Buses are pretty convenient, and there is even a train station on the campus itself. Buses and trains cost fairly okay if you take the monthly passes, or if you are in a group, they are even cheaper, so travelling should not be an issue.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Not a lot of companies are willing to give you a visa sponsorship. While some graduate roles might provide that opportunity, even then, there is a 30% chance you'll land a sponsored job as companies prefer candidates who already have the right to work. Salary packages can range anywhere between 28-50,000/annum. There can be many titles for a job role, but the work varies from company to company.

There are occasional cons in certain parts of the city particularly at night. The overall crime rate is low, but it's always important to stay alert and follow safety tips. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences.
Dislikes (Indian Food): While it is sometimes difficult to find authentic dishes from my country, I have been able to find local stores that serve familiar flavours. The availability of ingredients in international stores or markets also helps, but certain spices or delicacies are often harder to find.

They have set so high standards for even part-time jobs on campus. Managing academics and part-time at the same time is a bit hectic. The minimum payout is 10.42 for those who are above the age of 21. Overall, I'm satisfied with my university in every aspect.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Well-experienced faculty members from all over the world. They were easily accessible and ready to help at any time. Classes were conducted in seminar halls with a video recording option, so we can access them at any time after that throughout our lifetime.

The best experience for a student.
Tips: There definitely was a cultural shift for me. But nothing most people can't handle. It took me a while to learn certain things that India didn't teach us. I got a commonwealth scholarship of 2000 pounds. About the university, the infrastructure and technology blew my mind. It is the perfect place to study.
Likes (Safety): Birmingham is a very safe city. Even through the night it is mostly alive. One thing to keep in mind is to avoid the canals. In the year and a half that I lived there, I did not have any bad experience. As long as we don't go out of line, I'd say we will have no trouble.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): They have no placement drives like the ones we have in India. We have to look for jobs ourselves. Given that the UK is in a recession, it is very difficult to find jobs in the country. They prefer hiring a fresher who is from the UK or EU rather than someone for whom they would have to sponsor a visa.

Tips: There are many cultural shifts once you arrive here in the UK. Coming here is one thing and starting living and sustaining here is another thing, From managing studies, and exam pressure to financial hurdles, and homesickness an individual has their journey uniquely. In the UK, people tend to be more individuals and have fewer family links and social organisations. India's culture is more closer and conservative than Britain's. No, I did not avail of any scholarships, though advised to apply for them as quickly as possible. I am quite satisfied with the university, programme and country. We just need to stay focused and keep working hard until we find some good full-time opportunity.
Likes (Student Life): A typical day starts early in the morning, getting ready for either a lecture to attend or a sports session such as swimming, badminton, basketball, gym or tennis etc. Then after coming back, prepare food for lunch and evening, then study and go to sleep after some fun time with friends. The most enjoyable thing that I used to do in my college life was going to play sports and get myself involved in activities such as fitness and sports. There are diverse events organised by various societies under the Guild of Students, ranging from cultural fests to simple events on going on campus or student accommodation. I used to participate as maximum as possible if I had spare time to socialize and have fun in those events. Student clubs are there for all types of interests, academic programs, backgrounds, nationalities, religious beliefs, etc. Such as business societies, photography, gaming, Hindu, Islamic, and Sikh societies, International Students Club, volunteering and UNICEF communities, dance clubs, etc.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The only opportunities for students available on campus are Career Fair, where recruiters and companies visit campus and interact with the students directly. Very few sponsor visas, for the rest, students have to take up graduate visa route on their own. Most of the roles are for freshers such as graduate scheme roles, graduate management or trainee, financial auditor, etc. The starting average annual salary is 30,000 pounds.

Tips: I have grown as a person, become more independent, and more mature since entering university. There were some cultural shocks and differences, but mostly how kind and accepting most people were. That feels like the norm now. Likes (Safety): I have a very active social life at the University of Birmingham. I spend my time studying, attending class, and working out at the gym. If I have any energy left, I like to go out with friends. There are many social events on campus that I can attend. The student body is very diverse, and everyone is kind and accepting of everyone else. The staff is very helpful and always there to support and talk to new students.

Tips: As for the University of Birmingham, it is a great university that prepares you well for the world where you are no longer a kid who only has to worry about grades. Coming here has taught me to be independent financially and mentally. The campus is very diverse which lets me immerse in different cultural experiences. The student union is always there to support you from safety to mental well-being. The University also celebrates every cultural festival from Diwali to Ramadan, which never gives you the feeling of a home away from home. I did secure an academic scholarship for my course which is funded by the university themselves. Although the cost of living is quite high at the moment. But other than that, this is an amazing opportunity for me where I get to do a course I love at an exceptional Russel group university at the heart of Birmingham that offers all the support and advice.
Likes (Internships): The University has a huge careers network, with each college having its own. They provide excellent one-to-one advice on getting work experience, internships, volunteering, full-time jobs, etc. They also provide several other services like mock interviews that prepare you for the real challenge in the application process. For students with zero or very limited experience, the University offers a programme called B-Experienced, through which internships provided by companies offer special spots for students from the University of Birmingham. Hence when it comes to work experience and career in general, the University of Birmingham is a great choice.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The current UK government has tightened immigration policies, which might make permanent immigration options a bit harder. Also, if you secure a good job in a company that is ready to sponsor you, then that's great. However, most postgraduate students struggle with this aspect.

Tips: It is always better to connect with multiple people and faculty members to know what's going on near you and what opportunities exist for the future. I also think joining societies is a great option to keep the stream off while enjoying your university experience. Public transportation in Birmingham is good. It connects the whole city and buses are frequent. However, buses may be delayed due to various reasons, which can be a problem for students commuting to lectures or work during peak hours. I suggest checking the routes and buses beforehand so that you know the average commute time.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I was an international student at the University of Birmingham. I found that there were no jobs at all for international students. I faced extreme competition in finding jobs, and the university didn't provide any guidance or help with these issues. This made the situation worse than it might have been otherwise.

University of Birmingham has a beautiful and huge campus.
Tips: The campus is beautiful and there are a lot of activities to do, so you won't feel bored during your initial couple of weeks. After that you get busy with assignments and academics, so you'll spend most of the time going back and forth from the lectures to your accommodation, and part-time work. Like in India, there's not much pressure on studies, which can either be a good or a bad thing. I'm happy with the fact that the university is well-recognised and gives students career guidance. The current job market is tough in the UK to get a job, so only time will tell whether it's worth it or not.
Likes (Safety): Safety can be a matter of different experiences for different people. I never had safety concerns even when walking down the street late at night. Of course, you need to be a bit cautious of your surroundings. The campus does provide an app, and some safety gadgets during the welcome week, as well as a free bus to Sell Oak to travel when it gets dark during winter.
Dislikes (Public transportation): You can travel by train or bus. Buses are usually more connected than trains but are generally late, and it doesn't matter if you check the scheduled time on Google Maps or bus stop, they will make you wait for 15-20 minutes 90% of the time. I also don't think public transport is very affordable. It's 2 pounds for a ticket whether you want to get off at the Next bus stop or after the 15 bus stop. A monthly bus pass is now 49 pounds for students, but they keep increasing the price every year. Last year it was 46 pounds.

An amazing experience that needs a closure.
Tips: Students should be open to everything the university has to offer. Embrace the life that comes along with it. It's simple but effective in the long run, and you won't regret it later on. Of course, there will always be things you couldn't be a part of, but that's okay. Cherish the rest of your time there, and you'll look back and cherish it all for sure. I'm pretty satisfied with my time at University College Dublin.
Likes (Part time work): They've got a pretty good system for roles within the university and I'm a recipient of them. If going through the right channel and succeed in your interviews/assessment centres, the opportunities within the university are crazy for part-time. It is quite manageable with your coursework given the fact that you have good time management skills. The average payout is 12/hour.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It's pretty fragile and extremely difficult to obtain sponsorship after the course commences and the Graduate visa is granted. I wouldn't likely want to permanently immigrate here as I've got other preference in life and this country doesn't fulfil them all.

Tips: Before starting university, make sure you're comfortable with basic household tasks like cooking and cleaning. Students spend a lot of time studying, and learning these skills ahead of time can save you considerable time and help you keep up with the assignments, attend classes, and still enjoy university life. Birmingham is a fantastic city with access to nearly everything you might need, from Indian utensils and spices to food and there's almost nothing you won't find. However, if your mood is affected by the weather, be prepared for long stretches of gray, rainy days, with little sunlight for 6-7 months. The climate can be challenging, so building emotional resilience is helpful as well.
Likes (Public transportation): Buses are very frequent and you can get a bus in 5-10 minutes. The university has also its own bus service which is run for specific routes every day. The university has an integrity rail on the campus which also connects to the major and minor stations of the city.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): All the big 4 and MBB companies visited the university for the job fairs and offered internships and advice for the proper route for full-time jobs and with several on-campus activities to polish your soft and hard skills. The starting salary of a Business analyst with no or little experience at all is 338500 to 346000.
