Master of Business and Management - Batch of 2025
4.2
The university is diverse and has a lot of events on-campus for students.
Tips: The school has a very supportive environment. The faculty is good and very helpful. I was also lucky to get an excellence scholarship of $10,000 to help me pay my tuition and other expenses. The best part about the University of Waikato and New Zealand, in general, is that it is easy to make friends. Everyone is so welcoming and ready to help. Go for it, you won't regret it. I can highly recommend the Master of Business and Management at the University of Waikato.

4.6
A supportive and enriching learning environment at Waikato.
Tips: Waikato is a diverse and supportive environment that provides a smooth cultural transition, good scholarship opportunities, and an overall highly satisfying academic experience. The university itself is full of diverse and interesting people. One can meet people from all over the world, and the campus truly provides a great space to interact with others. The supportive environment offered by the university and the students is what really stands out, and one can really find friends for life there. The university provides a multitude of resources for students, including a counselling and support service, the Learning Development Centre, and the Waikato library. These, among other things, are what make this a great university. This has been a life-changing journey that has grown both professionally and personally. There are a few available volunteer and paid jobs within the school campus, but jobs are rare outside.

The university provides great facilities and friendly tutors.
Tips: Everyone was welcoming and understanding, which really helped me settled in. I got a $10,000 scholarship that was just based on my previous education. The faculty are highly knowledgeable and experts in their field.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics - Batch of 2027

First-year student and an inclusive experience at Waikato University
Tips: I have become more disciplined, independent, and open to everyone. I have changed the way I think as well, since there are many races here, and I have to carefully choose the right words to respect them, which is good because it allows me to make friends all over the globe, try the signature food and so on. There aren’t many scholarships here for international students, but there are some. Most students have to compete with local students or the entire class for the scholarship to get the highest marks, which is difficult. I got a $2500 scholarship for not failing any classes during my foundation program, which was an achievement for me. However, I haven’t checked what kind of scholarships are available for a bachelor’s degree, and there don’t seem to be any for science majors.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Since few people are living here, a huge chance to occupy their remaining space. Close to nature and lots of beautiful scenery to go hiking or bla, ideal town for nature people. However, everything is just quite boring, and quite spare and still underdeveloped compared to Australia and Singapore.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are a few available volunteer and paid jobs within the school campus, but jobs are rare outside. I listened to all the struggle of my friends who went through tons of interviews and CV review seminars just to get a single position at a KFC or McDonald’s. That's just how hard things are in this sparsely populated town, with few residents and even fewer jobs.

A supportive faculty and a vibrant student life.
Tips: They must know about the courses they are studying and will be taking, about the papers they are going to take. The ranking of the college, the number of programs being offered, and how long the college has existed. About the quality of teaching and the faculty and about the fee structure.

A perfect blend of academics, events and culture.
Tips: Students should be ready for a diverse, rigorous, and rewarding experience. The cultural shift was smooth with supportive peers. I received a merit-based scholarship through academic performance. Student life is vibrant, with a perfect mix of academics and fun. My day includes classes, club meetings, and hangouts. Fests, workshops, and cultural events happen often. I enjoy bonding with peers the most. There are clubs for tech, culture, sports and more.
Dislikes (Safety): The faculty is highly knowledgeable, approachable, and supportive. They're always open to questions, even outside class. Their use of case studies, real-world examples, and interactive sessions makes learning engaging. Most faculty are Indian, with a few international.

Master of Business and Management - Batch of 2025
4.4
Good quality of education and management.
Tips: If you are an international student who wants to study in New Zealand and you have enough points in your English test, I recommend that you attend a university that offers affordable tuition. Waikato is an excellent option, but it's very expensive compared to other schools. but it provides excellent and high-quality education and support resources, which is very helpful to students from out of the country.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): It's very easy for specific Masters students and Ph.D. students to settle in New Zealand because immigration law is more liberal there than in other countries, which is an advantage for international students who want to settle in New Zealand and secure permanent residence or citizenship.
Dislikes (Student Life): They are giving us just basic guidance for internships, nothing more. They created a job portal for every student, but it’s completely useless and doesn’t help at all. And if you are trying to find jobs directly in the market, then it’s a very big task. You need a very good reference to get a good job.

The availability and connectivity for part-time jobs are unsatisfactory.
Tips: I had lots of cultural shocks, mostly all good. I received a scholarship of 7500 NZD, which was through my agent. I would suggest thoroughly researching immigration, especially when applying with an agent. I would also suggest paying the full course fee and getting all living expenses transferred for the entire duration. Overall, I am very satisfied with my decision.
Likes (Indian Food): So, I'm not a big fan of Indian food. There are many restaurants offering it, but the taste is quite different, often sweeter. However, the food can be customised. The pricing is high, so I prefer cooking for myself. But fast food joints like McDonald's and Domino's are cheaper.
Dislikes (Part time work): The availability and connectivity for part-time jobs are unsatisfactory. While some courses include internships, mine does not. Consequently, job searching is difficult, as the market is saturated. The university offers many volunteer opportunities, but I received little to no support in securing a part-time position, although they do assist with CVs and interview preparation.

Master of Engineering Practice - Batch of 2026
4.5
Supportive and career-oriented learning in a friendly environment.
Tips: Before joining, students should know that the system in New Zealand is very self-directed. You're expected to take initiative, manage time efficiently, and communicate openly with professors. The university provides good academics and opportunities to work on real-life projects.

Supportive faculty and great student life experience.
Tips: Before joining this college, students should know that time management is very important to balance studies, assignments, and part-time work. It's helpful to get involved in student activities and make use of support services like the library, writing support, and career guidance. Also, be ready to communicate openly with faculty and classmates, as it really helps in both learning and adjusting to a new environment.
Likes (Safety): The campus environment is welcoming and vibrant. There are plenty of opportunities to join clubs, attend events, and meet people from different cultures. It's easy to make friends and balance academic and social life, which makes the overall experience enjoyable.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The instructors are highly knowledgeable and supportive and explain concepts clearly. They encourage questions, provide real-world examples, and are approachable both during and after class. Their teaching methods help me understand the subject better and stay engaged.

Highly qualified faculty and education.
Tips: It’s a good university and excellent value for money, especially for business and research courses. The living cost is fine, and the area is quiet, but part-time jobs are hard to come by right now. This university has everything people could expect in a university. Make sure to fully utilise the resources provided by the university. We have many on-campus events. I take part in them to actively build connections.

Very less job opportunities but amazing student life.
Tips: The most important information I would want to share is that this university is known for its low fee structure. But they have increased the fees by three times in this particular year. Like for my course MBA, the fee was around 13K CAD but now it's 39K CAD. There you can feel a little cultural shift and there are few scholarship programs offered here to students, I have never been part of that scholarship thing. Well, some faculty are good others are just average but that doesn't change the fact that they are talented too. One more thing which I want to mention is that there are very less job opportunities.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is quite good here. There are enormous clubs or communities and there are so many campus events organized here frequently. The infrastructure is so good with enormous other facilities and benefits to students. There's also a sports complex with so many sports options for students.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I am not so sure about the companies and job roles for now as I am still studying there. But here job opportunities are very low. And expenses are quite high like living expenses have been increased and tuition fees have increased by three times for my specific course.

Memorial is truly memororable since everyday has been a different experience
Tips: Students should join to excel in the classes, not worry about marks and grades. Prepare to know the course material and not to pass the class. The teaching is such that students are prepared for any questions from the syllabus. Besides this, having a good social life is important as well since you are away from home.
Likes (Safety): People are really polite and hence St johns is a safe place to be in. I would leave my door open and go to work. I go to college classes and everywhere without worrying anything would be stolen. Some areas are not safe near downtown but majorly the city is great to live in.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Transportation is poor in st johns with only Metro bus which often comes every 30-45 mins. Hence making it harder to balance work and study at the same time. If you miss a bus waiting for next costs you to lose time at work and not get paid, sometimes possibly get fired as well.

Student loving city with great views
Tips: The weather can be pretty harsh here so prepare for that. It all comes down to a person. The city is not big like other places you need to choose your own pace in this city. The most problematic thing would be food if you don't know how to cook. I am satisfied with my course and city.
