At the University of Bath, we pride ourselves on equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their studies and future career. We were delighted to see our focus on employability recognised in three recent national league tables which ranked the University of Bath fifth in the United Kingdom for graduate/career prospects.
The university was ranked fifth for graduate prospects in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 (September 2022); fifth for career prospects after 15 months in the Guardian University Guide 2023 (September 2022); fifth for the high-skilled employment outcomes in the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) Graduate Outcomes Survey (August 2022).
Alongside the Careers Service, the University has a dedicated Skills Centre that aims to enhance students’ academic and employability skills so that everyone can reach their full potential at Bath and beyond.
So what skills support is available at the University of Bath?
Academic skills
We have developed sector-leading provisions to enhance students’ writing skills - vital to academic success. This includes tailored sessions delivered 'in programme’, open access workshops, and personal 1:1 tutorials which offer individual feedback on a piece of writing.
In addition to writing, we cover: academic English, critical reading/thinking, citing/referencing, note-taking, preparing for exams, group working, giving presentations, and communication/discussion skills, all designed to improve students’ academic performance.
Maths and statistics skills
Our Mathematics Resources Centre (MASH) supports new students with the transition to university-level maths and runs a daily lunchtime drop-in service where all students can ask any maths or statistics questions.
MASH also provides specialist 1:1 statistics support to help with project/research work and assists with mathematical typesetting and programming queries.
Speaking another language gives graduates a competitive edge in today’s global employment market. All students at Bath can learn or develop a language alongside their main course.
We offer classes in eight foreign languages - all starting from the beginner level – and other language-learning opportunities such as Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) student-led sessions and Virtual Exchanges, all designed to build communication skills, intercultural awareness and confidence to travel and work abroad.
We also help international students boost their English language skills, either before their studies through our Pre-sessional programme, or in tandem with their degree.
Digital skills
Digital skills are vital for success in today’s fast-changing digital world and the Centre supports students to optimise learning apps, software and Microsoft tools, and develop broader skills like data management and online safety.
MySkills
Students at Bath can organise a personal development programme around their studies, finding year-round opportunities and self-access resources on the University’s dedicated ‘MySkills’ platform.
We look forward to supporting your skills development! To find out more, check out the official university website, here. Candidates can also get in touch with our Shiksha Study Abroad Counsellors for assistance with university admissions.
