Scholarship for LLM in Canada for Indian Students
LLM in Canada is one of the popular PG courses opted by international students. The biggest reasons for studying LLM in Canada is also because of its average tuition costs and good prospects for employment. Over 20+ Canadian Universities offer LLM to international students and enroll over 1,000 students annually out of which at least 500 of them apply for a scholarship.
There are some LLM scholarships in Canada for Indian students or international students which can be availed on the basis of merit mostly and less for need based. The LLM scholarships in Canada cover 25% to 75% tuition costs for meritorious students and may or may not cover living costs in Canada.

Scholarships Available for Indian Students Studying LLM in Canada
There are three types of scholarships offered to Indian students pursuing LLM in Canada, and the eligibility varies either on the basis of course or for specific nationality students only. Some of them are:

1. Government Scholarships
Awarded by the Canadian Government specifically for international or Indian students. Only one scholarship for Indian students pursuing LLM in Canada is available:
Ontario Graduate Scholarships: Applicants must be enrolled full time Master’s course at U of T, McGill University, etc. on the basis of intellect and academic performance he/she would be awarded a one-time scholarship of INR 9,09,800.
2. Non-Government Scholarships

3. University Based Scholarships
Universities have their bursaries which allow or don’t allow them to offer scholarships.
University of Toronto Scholarships for Indian Students
The University of Toronto has various faculty level scholarships that offer financial aids specifically for U of T LLM programs admitting international students:
Nathan Strauss Q.C. Graduate Fellowship in Canadian Constitutional Law
This fellowship is annually awarded to a student enrolled in the LLM programme who:
- Proves his/her academic excellence
- Shows dedication towards completing his/her LLM degree
- Working on Canadian Constitutional Law, focusing on past, present or contemplated issues relevant to Canadian society as part of the thesis.
Naomi Overend Fellowship in Human Rights
This fellowship is awarded annually to a student who is enrolled for a full-time LLM program focusing majorly on topics of human rights.
Graduate Fellowships in Innovation Law and Policy
The Centre for Innovation Law and Policy can sponsor around five Graduate Fellowships annually of CAD 25,000 per graduate.
Faculty of Law Fellowships
These Fellowships are available from the faculty's endowment awarded to outstanding students in financial need pursuing an LLM degree. The fellowships are usually awarded upon the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies.
University of Toronto Fellowships
U of T Fellowships are offered to students enrolled in the LLM program. The Faculty of Law is responsible for allocating scholarship funds.
Law Foundation Fellowships
The Law Foundation of Ontario awards various scholarship amounts to extraordinary students possessing high intellectual skills, enrolled for the LLM program.

Albert S. Abel Graduate Award
This is awarded on the basis of financial needs of an LLM enrolled student on the recommendation of the Faculty of Law’s Chairman of the Graduate Committee.

McGill University LLM Scholarships for Indian Students
Very few scholarships are available for LLM students of McGill University. Thesis based LLM courses entitles a handful number of international students for a monthly stipend of CAD 2,500.
The international students are advised to mention in their application if they need scholarship or funding while pursuing an LLM degree from McGill University, the university would then shortlist very few candidates on the basis of a good profile and might offer them CAD 5,000 anytime during the student’s enrollment. A few external scholarships are available for McGill University LLM graduates:

UBC LLM Scholarships for Indian Students
There are a variety of doctoral scholarships for Indian students but only one scholarship is available for Indian students enrolled in an LLM course at UBC which is the International Tuition Award. This award is offered to international students enrolled in a full time LLM program and bent towards research. The tuition fee is covered 75% in this case and not more than the total course fee.
