About Sheffield Hallam University
SHU was founded as a UK-based public research university in 1843 in South Yorkshire and is known to be one of the UK's largest and most diverse universities with around 32,000 students and over 295,000 alumni members around the world.
Sheffield Hallam University was founded in 1843 as the Sheffield School of Design with a good impact on the ciy, region, nation and the world. Sheffield Hallam University History
By the 1850s, SHU had around 1,000 students on campus and became the Sheffield School of Art and later in 1969, the Sheffield Polytechnic which is one of the first three polytechnics had been established.
During 1982, the Nelson Mandela Building was opened at the university campus which was first known as the Pheonix Building and was home to the Sheffield City Polytechnic's Student Union. The Sheffield Business School was later founded at Totley Hall during 1986. By the year 1992, the Sheffield City Polytechnic had gained university status and became Sheffield Hallam University.
