Sheffield Hallam University History

Sheffield Hallam University was first founded in 1843 as a public research university and the campus is located in South Yorkshire, UK. By the 1850s, the university had around 1,000 students on campus and became the Sheffield School of Art. Later in 1969, the Sheffield Polytechnic which is one of the first three polytechnics had been established.

During 1982, the Nelson Mandela Building was opened at the university campus which was first known as the Pheonix Building and was home to the Sheffield City Polytechnic's Student Union. The Sheffield Business School was later founded at Totley Hall during 1986. By the year 1992, the Sheffield City Polytechnic had gained university status and became Sheffield Hallam University.
