Student life is fun and vibrant.
Tips: Be social join clubs and societies. Go up to your professors and interact with them. Enjoy the experience of living in a new country. Don't be shy don't miss out on opportunities. Get ready for the weather. The connections you make now will last for a long time. Good experiences so far.
Likes (Indian Food): Amazing variety of Indian food is available in Brighton. I have tried almost every restaurant serving indian food. I would say None of them are bad but you can find a good restaurant that you'd like and is affordable as well if you look for them properly.
Dislikes (Internships): There are opportunities but you have to put a lot of effort by yourself. Present yourself in a nice manner be confident and don't get discouraged by rejections. Just keep applying for more internships and you will find the one that suits you the best.

It is the university of opportunities.
Tips: When I came to the UK, I was homesick, but after a few days it went away. There are a lot of societies in the University of Sussex to join, and you feel like coming home to a culture you get used to as you go by. I got a 3000 pounds scholarship for my good performance in academics in bachelor's.
Likes (Safety): First of all, the University of Sussex is in a safe location in Brighton. It is such a vibrant location, and there are a lot of security personnel on call if you need any help. I have not faced any issues till now. Everything is a good experience in Brighton, lots of part time jobs and safety, no negative.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Since the UK has made tough rules, it has been very difficult to get a sponsored job. I recommend getting experience in India and then coming. In my course, supply chain and logistics management, there are various roles from procurement to logistics to supply chain and the basic salary starts from 25000 pounds to 35000 pounds a year.

Not worth the money. The faculty doesn't teach much.
Tips: I got a scholarship of around 3000. The job market is tough and if you have experience, that would be a plus point. In my situation, I don't have experience, so I have a lot of struggles. It is not worth it to spend 18 lakhs and the faculty doesn't teach much. They just get the PowerPoint presentation and display it and they read the presentation from the screen. But there are many resources on campus where I spend a lot of time reading. I am not satisfied with this university.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is very good because there are two major universities in Brighton and Inor university where there are many facilities like a library, canteen and so on, where we can spend lots of time and people come from different cultures and regions. We get to know about lots of different cultures, which is a great experience.

The city is very expensive and the weather is unpredictable.
Tips: It was very smooth as people here were really welcoming and you can join so many societies to socialise. I did not but there are multiple available to students. Love the course and the country as a whole. However the sky high cost of living and the unreliable weather.
Likes (Public transportation): The campus features convenient bus stops throughout with free inter-campus travel available for students. Additionally it is seamlessly connected to a train station just outside and student passes help reduce travel cost significantly.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I'd say it's fairly high as I've secured a placement which adds some valuable experience and gives me an edge. Personally I don't wish to settle in the UK long-term it's not something I aspire to or see aligning with my future goals.

Adjusting to life and study in the UK.
Tips: Moving to a new country, one definitely experiences a culture shock. One major culture shock that Indian students might experience is being polite to strangers. Using phrases like Thank you, Have a nice day, etc., and being considerate towards others are part of everyday interactions. One also needs to adjust to the climatic condition. It's also important to socialise and make new friends for a healthy mental life. Many universities offer a number of scholarships to students, hence, it's better to check the website and apply for the relevant scholarship opportunity during the application. I received a 2000 GBP scholarship, which is available to all the Indian students at my university. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the university, its faculty, course structure, and additional learning resources. I loved the work culture in the UK. However, getting used to the weather of the UK can be a bit difficult, as there are hardly any sunny days in the UK.
Likes (Indian Food): There are a lot of good Indian Restaurants in Brighton, ranging from North Indian to South Indian, easy takeaways to fine dine restaurants. There are also a few Indian Grocery stores like Taj, where you can find Indian snacks and vegetables. For vegetarians, there are many options, too.
Dislikes (Value for money): Undoubtedly, the university has a big library with great resources as well as top-quality research equipment. However there were far too many teacher strikes in 2021 which had an impact on our lectures, practical sessions, etc. I found this unfair for the international students. It is important to note, however, that these strikes were happening in many universities across England.

MSc in Strategic Marketing - Batch of 2023

Sussex is great for a fun master's year, but don't expect it to change your life.
Tips: I received the Sussex India + Business scholarship, which provided approximately 8000 off my tuition. I stayed in Northfield, which is the nicest place to stay on campus. In 2022, the annual accommodation fee there was 6000. The university has built newer, more modern accommodations since then. Culturally, I think Indians would fit in well; the university has one of the highest ratios of international students, especially Indians. There's even an Asian grocery store on campus called Taj. Regarding my degree, I don't think it has helped me much in my career or broadened my general knowledge. I work as a senior researcher for a strategy and insights agency. Some courses were interesting and challenging, but, from what I know, most of the good staff have left.
Likes (Safety): Lots of campus security, minimal crime in the city and on campus, very friendly students and staff. I never felt unsafe as a young woman, and Brighton definitely has a great nightlife and party culture, so you can definitely indulge in that life and not feel unsafe.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I don't believe one would gain too much from this university/master's course that would help them receive sponsorship besides their own merit. For instance, my course did not have any placements, and in general, career fairs are few. But what it does offer is loads of extracurricular and part-time opportunities, so I really made the most of them and gained loads of experience in soft skills and career-adjacent work that has helped me land a job + sponsorship.
