UMA History
The University of Mannheim dates its history back to 1763 to the foundation of the Academy of Sciences of the Electoral Palatinate, which operated until the French Revolutionary War (1795) & the Napoleonic War (1803).
The institute reopened as the Commercial College of the City of Mannheim in 1907, after an initiative of Mannheim’s senior mayor Otto Beck (1846-1908) & the economics professor Eberhard Gothein (1853-1923).
Its business school is among a select number of universities in Germany to hold the “triple crown” of being accredited by the AACSB, EQUIS & AMBA.
