University of Strathclyde Offers LLM Law, Technology and Innovation programme

The students will get a chance to explore legal issues related to innovation and leadership in the context of shifts toward automated decision-making and algorithmic regulation driven by AI, machine learning, big data and other advances in computing power.
The University of Strathclyde introduced the LLM Law, Technology and Innovation programme in both full-time (for one year) and part-time (2 years) modes on campus. The starting date of the course is September 2024. EU Engagement Scholarships worth £10,000 are available to applicants from EU countries.
The LLM is awarded on successful completion of six modules and a summer project (dissertation, internship, consultancy, enhanced research proposal, or coding project). The program offered by the University of Strathclyde is globally unique in teaching technological skills, technology law, innovation and leadership. It does not require prior knowledge of coding or law.
LLM Law, Technology and Innovation programme Elective modules
Following are the elective modules:
- Cyber crime, cyber security and anti-theft law
- Intellectual property, commerce and innovation
- Coding for lawyers and legal applications
- Statistics and machine learning for lawyers and legal application
- Law, power and accountability in the algorithmic state
- Law and economics for digital markets
- Human rights and digital technologies
"Graduates will have the opportunity to build their own technological projects while gaining an understanding of the law that regulates the design, development and distribution of technology internationally," reads the official statement.
The students will have the opportunity to explore the legal issues related to innovation and leadership in the context of shifts toward automated decision-making, machine learning, big data and other advances in computing power. The students will also get to learn coding languages and gain a better understanding of algorithmic bias.

Entry Requirements of LLM Law, Technology and Innovation programme
First or second-class Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, in Law or any other discipline. Other qualifications may be accepted where the applicant has relevant work experience. Please note that a Law or Computer Science degree is not required for entry to this program.
After completing the course, the student will have the following opportunities:
- undertake placement or consultancy projects to develop their skills through more advanced coding projects, or
- explore a technology law issue in detail through a dissertation or enhanced research proposal
