Founded in 1883, Cardiff University is a public research university in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. History
Though Cardiff opened its doors in 1883, it was formally established by Royal Charter in the year 1884. In 1893, the university became one of the founding institutions of the University of Wales and started awarding the degrees. In the year 1972, the university had taken its present name Cardiff University.
The university merged with the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology in 1988. Then, in 1999, the university changed its name to Cardiff University. In the year 2004, the university merged with the University of Wales College of Medicine. In the same year, Privy Council approved a new supplemental charter granting Cardiff a university status.
