LOR
  • Applicants are required to submit two teacher recommendations:
    • Ask two teachers in different academic subjects who know applicants well to complete the Teacher Recommendation forms (which include an evaluation form and a letter of recommendation). If applicants wish to submit additional letters of recommendation, they may do so after submitting their application
ESSAYS
  • Applicants are required to submit a Personal essay
  • Personal Essay topics include:
    • Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story
    • The lessons that universities learn from the obstacles they encounter can be fundamental to their later success. Recount a time when students faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect students, and what did students learn from the experience?

    • Reflect on a time when applicants questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted their thinking? What was the outcome?
    • Reflect on something that someone has done for students that has made students happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated students?
    • Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others
    • Describe a topic, idea, or concept that students find so engaging that it makes students lose all track of time. Why does it captivate students? What or who do students turn to when they want to learn more?
    • Share an essay on any topic of the student's choice. It can be one student's has already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of their own design

Q:   Is it hard to get into Harvard University?
A:

Getting into Harvard University is quite competitive but not impossible. Applicants can get into Harvard once they have outstanding academic grades. For the Class of 2028, 1,937 of the 54,008 applicants to class were granted admission, This is equivalent to 3.6%. Apart from the academic achievements, Harvard University also looks for these qualities in students:

  • Growth & Potential
  • Interests & Activities (Extracurricular)
  • Personal Character
  • Contribution to the Harvard Community
Q:   How competitive is Harvard’s acceptance rate for international students from India?
A:

According to an unofficial ranking body, Harvard University acceptance rate is 3% for Indian students, and the early acceptance rate of 7.6%. This means that the students who apply early may have higher selection chances. The low acceptance percentage symbolizes that the university is too stringent not only for Indians but for each country. Along with fulfilling the basic eligibility criteria, students must provide relevant work experience or internships in some cases and submit the mandatory documents. The crucial list includes standardized test scores, essays, a resume, transcripts, English language requirements, a letter of recommendation, and more.

Life of a Harvard student in the US.
Tips: Harvard's rigour demands self-discipline and expects intense course work but unparalleled resources to navigate the same, be it world-class libraries, faculty, grants, alumni network, peer group, etc. The culture thrives on collaboration, and you will meet some of the most brilliant minds in the world, which is highly inspirational. I availed a generous scholarship from Harvard, which covered 80% of my tuition and made this dream possible for me. Overall, this was an incredible learning experience, and I would highly recommend it.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Harvard's faculty brings in unparalleled expertise, accessibility and mentorship. Professors blend cutting edge research with practical and interactive teaching, ranging from case studies to internships to discussions. The departments also bring in global faculty which enriches classroom discussions and projects.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): While the US offers strong career opportunities and great mentorship, currently, the country is going through several changes in its immigration rules and that could lead to some uncertainty with settlement options. My chances of settlement rely heavily on an employers sponsoring my H1-b visa and that is always uncertain as its a lottery process so the volatility makes it hard to be certain.
