GRE Exam Pattern 2025 (Latest)

There are three sections in GRE General Test. It includes Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. According to the latest GRE exam pattern 2025, the test duration is now reduced to 1 hour and 58 minutes. To reduce the duration, ETS removed the previously included 'Unscored' and 'Research' sections.

The duration of the GRE Subject Test is 2 hours and 50 minutes, and it follows a different structure.

There are no specific GRE eligibility criteria to appear in the exam. Anyone can register for GRE test 2025, irrespective of age or qualifications. However, candidates applying for master's courses are required to take the GRE test.

The application fee for the GRE General Test is INR 22,000 for Indian students. This fee is for appearing in the test at a test centre or at home. Note that if the applicants want to change the centre or reschedule the test, they would be required to pay an extra fee for the same.

GRE Exam Dates for 2025

Like other international standardised exams, there are multiple GRE exam dates in 2025 in India. Candidates can choose any date according to their convenience and availability. The GRE exam date that you choose should be at least two to three months before your first university application deadline. This is because you will have a chance to retake the test if you are not happy with your score.

For Example: If the deadline for your application is November, you should choose a test date for August or September. If you feel the need to retake the GRE exam, you can take it in October again.

Candidates who have appeared for this exam can access their GRE scores by logging into their ETS account using their credentials. The highest score in the Graduate Record Examination is 340, and the minimum score is 260. The composite score mentioned here is the sum of total GRE marks in the Verbal and Quant sections, while the AWA section score is presented separately. GRE score is valid for a period of five years from the day of the exam. 

GRE Subject Test Score

GRE Subject Test is calculated on a scale of 200 to 990 with an increment scale variation of 10 points. The test takers of the GRE Subject test will receive their scorecard within 3 to 4 weeks after the exam. ETS releases the dates of the result announcement.

How to Send GRE Score Report?

In your GRE registration fee, you can send your score to four colleges or scholarship programs. For the computer test, select recipients at the test centre. For the paper test, choose during registration or on your ticket. You can order additional score reports later for $40 per recipient. There are two options to send your GRE Scores to the universities:

  • ScoreSelect: It gives you the option to send the test scores you choose to the four universities you have selected. On test day, after viewing your GRE scores at the test centre, you can choose to send or not to send your scores at this time.
  • Additional Score Reports (ASRs): If you wish to send your GRE scores to more than 4 institutions or you decide to send scores after test day, you can order Additional Score Reports (ASRs) for a fee of USD 40.

GRE Cutoff

ETS does not announce a universal GRE cutoff score. However, some universities release the cutoffs for specified graduate programs. These scores vary significantly based on the program's competitiveness, university ranking, and the field of study. Other than this, some scholarship programs also offer cutoffs for the GRE. Achieving the cutoff can improve the chance of getting selected.
