The President of Your Life
Tips: The cultural shift was not that big, as there is a big Indian community here. It took me about 6 months to get completely settled in. I got a 20% scholarship based upon my academic performance in India. The uni life was amazing; the country and the city are great too. Just that the post-study job market is super hard.
Likes (Safety): The safety at RMIT is a massive reason why I rate it so highly, and it ties right into how vibrant the student life is here. Between all the clubs, events, and retail discounts you get around the city, you're constantly out and about. Since RMIT is right in the middle of the Melbourne CBD rather than a closed-off campus, city safety matters a lot. Thankfully, the streets are really well-lit, CCTV is everywhere, and the uni provides awesome backup like 24/7 security lines and guards who will actually walk you to your station or tram stop if you've been studying late at the library. Personally, I’ve never run into any real trouble walking around the city or catching public transport at night. Melbourne is generally a very safe place, but obviously, like any major city center, you still want to keep your wits about you and stay alert if you're wandering down quiet laneways or less busy spots after dark.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The market for AU jobs is pretty tough and competitive right now, and not a lot of people talk about how difficult it actually is to land a full-time job after finishing your studies. There are companies that sponsor visas, but most of them do not hire on a rolling basis, so timing your job search around their intake cycles matters a lot. From what I have seen, only a smaller subset of employers (mostly larger firms and some tech/consulting companies) are consistently open to sponsoring international graduates, and roles tend to cluster around entry-level or graduate packages in the 65K-80K range depending on the field. Competition for these spots is high since local graduates and other visa holders are applying to the same limited pool of jobs.

University is great and helps you build a great professional life.
Tips: Students should know that RMIT is the only university, which doesn't conduct examinations. The assessment is purely based on 3 assignments. Students must take any programme if they have a basis in that programme. Every student from India gets a minimum of 20% scholarship including me. I am glad that I got this opportunity because I learnt how to manage time, and gained a spirit of diversity and confidence to face and overcome failure.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The course is based on direct application in the real world. This helps students to learn and implement the same in companies. Plus, the faculty takes feedback from students and updates courses semester-wise. Faculty members are friendly and can always approach them through Outlook or personal meetings for any technical or personal problems.
