Bonafide Certificate: Uses & Application Process
A bonafide certificate is an official document issued by Indian schools, universities, or employers to verify an individual’s temporary, ongoing association with that institution. This article presents information on a bonafide certificate for Indian students going to study abroad.
For Indian students aiming to study abroad, a bonafide certificate acts as standard proof of current academic enrollment or employment status. It is highly useful when applying for international scholarships, securing study abroad education loans, and processing student visas.
Unlike permanent identity markers, a bonafide certificate has a temporary validity window - often requiring a fresh copy issued within 3 to 6 months of your visa or loan application. Crucially, while it can act as temporary supporting proof of residence or institutional affiliation, it cannot replace mandatory primary KYC documents like your Aadhaar card, PAN card, or Indian passport. To acquire one, students must submit a formal application stating the exact purpose to their current institution's administrative desk. What is a Bonafide Certificate?
A bonafide certificate is an official document - issued by an institution, organisation, or employer to authenticate an individual's genuine association with them. It acts as proof of status for students (enrollment) or employees (employment), containing key details like name, duration of association, and role for purposes such as visa applications, scholarships, or bank accounts.
In account of studying abroad, it acts as an official document issued by a current school or university confirming a student's active enrollment and genuine association with the institution. It serves as crucial proof of student status for visa applications, scholarship applications, and opening bank accounts in foreign countries. Overall, it validates the student's identity and legitimacy to foreign immigration authorities and universities.
The temporary bonafide certificates usually last 3-6 months, while the permanent ones may last up to 1 year. The bonafide certificate is requested through the institution's head, registrar, or administrative office and may take 10-15 days to process.
