1. Research and Shortlisting of Universities (from March 01 to March 31 of the previous year): The first step of the application involves students looking to study in Germany to get to know about the public universities in Germany, the courses on offer and every other detail of the university that would be relevant to the student. Post-research students should have shortlisted universities to which they would want to apply. 

2. English/German Language Exams and APS: The ideal time to appear for English proficiency and German language tests are from April 01 to May 01 of the previous year. English language tests such as IELTS/ TOEFL are accepted across English-taught programmes. For German-taught programmes, students would be required to appear for German language exams such as TestDAF and DSH. Indian students looking to study in Germany should also apply for their APS Certificate to speed up the admission process.

3. Summer Intake for Germany Application Start: Get in touch with Shiksha Study Abroad Counsellors to put in final touches to your Statement of Purpose (SOP) and other apply-related documents. Students should also start requesting their Letters of Recommendation (LOR) per their university requirements. This is the time when students should keep their admission documents ready and start applying to universities in Germany. The Summer Intake for German Applicants usually starts from December 15 of the previous year.

4. Summer Intake for Germany Application End: All universities participating in the Summer Intake usually close admissions by January 15 of the same year as their academic session. 

5. Acceptance Letter Period: Public Universities in Germany usually hand out Acceptance letters from July 15 of the previous year to Feb 15 of the same year. The acceptance letter also referred to as an admit letter is a mandatory requirement for the next step of the process - applying for the Students Visa Intake. 

6. Visa Filing Period: Once the student has successfully got his German admit letter he should look at applying for his German Student Visa to be able to travel to Germany to study. Candidates should ideally apply for their student visa from Nov 01 of the previous year till Feb 15 of the same year. Candidates are also advised to explore education loans and scholarships during their admission process.

7. Summer Intake in Germany Academic Session: With all the formalities done, candidates should ideally fly out of India for Germany well in advance to give themselves enough time to complete any remaining formalities and settle down in the foreign land. Candidates would also have to look at opening a Blocked Account to manage their living expenses in the country. The academic session for the Summer Intake in Germany starts from April to September.

8. German Student Visa: Once the candidate has received his/her university admit letter. He is required to apply for his German Student Visa.  The German Student visa will grant the student permission to stay in Germany for the length of the course and also allow the candidate to work part-time in the country.
