When is Summer Intake in Germany?
Germany has two intakes every year. The application/admission for the Summer Intake in Germany starts in early December and decisions are made by mid-January. However, the preparation for admission to the Summer Intake in Germany begins as early as August of the previous year.

Summer Intake in Germany: Student Timeline
Indian students looking to apply to Public Universities in Germany should ideally follow the below timeline to apply for the summer intake in Germany successfully.
1. Research and Shortlisting of Universities (from March 01 to March 31 of the previous year): The first step of the application involves students looking to study in Germany to get to know about the public universities in Germany, the courses on offer and every other detail of the university that would be relevant to the student. Post-research students should have shortlisted universities to which they would want to apply.
2. English/German Language Exams and APS: The ideal time to appear for English proficiency and German language tests are from April 01 to May 01 of the previous year. English language tests such as IELTS/ TOEFL are accepted across English-taught programmes. Candidates who are looking to apply to German-taught programmes would be required to appear for German language exams such as TestDAF and DSH. Indian students looking to study in Germany should also apply for their APS Certificate to speed up the admission process.
| What is APS Certificate Germany? Academic Evaluation Centre (APS India) is a service provider of the Science Section of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, New Delhi in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). As there is a large number of Indian students applying to study in Germany every year, the APS Certificate or Akademische Prüfstelle in German is a mandatory requirement for Indian students looking to study in Germany. The APS Certificate has been introduced to provide proof of the authenticity of Indian academic documents and above all simplify and accelerate the admission process to German universities and for obtaining your German Student Visa. |
3. Summer Intake for Germany Application Start: Get in touch with Shiksha Study Abroad Counsellors to put in final touches to your Statement of Purpose (SOP) and other apply-related documents. Students should also start requesting their Letters of Recommendation (LOR) per their university requirements. This is the time when students should keep their admission dockets ready and start applying to universities in Germany. 4. Summer Intake for Germany Application End: All universities participating in the Summer Intake usually close admissions by January 15 of the same year as their academic session.
5. Acceptance Letter Period: Public Universities in Germany usually hand Acceptance letters from July 15 of the previous year to Feb 15 of the same year. The acceptance letter also referred to as an admit letter is a mandatory requirement for the next step of the process - applying for the Students Visa Intake.
6. Visa Filing Period: Once the student has successfully got his German admit letter he should look at applying for his German Student Visa to be able to travel to Germany to study. Candidates should ideally apply for their student visa from Nov 01 of the previous year till Feb 15 of the same year. Candidates are also advised to explore education loans and scholarships during their admission process.
7. Summer Intake in Germany Academic Session: With all the formalities done, candidates should ideally fly out of India for Germany well in advance to give themselves enough time to complete any remaining formalities and settle down in the foreign land. Candidates would also have to look at opening a Blocked Account to manage their living expenses in the country. The academic session for the Summer Intake in Germany starts from April to September.

A German blocked account is a bank account in which international students looking to study in Germany are required to transfer at least 11,208 euros to prove they have the means to finance themselves throughout the first year of their studies while in the country.
