California State University Long Beach History
CSULB started its journey as the Los Angeles-Orange Country State College, with only 169 students and 13 full-time faculty members in a converted apartment building. Initially, when the university did not have a permanent building under its name the bigger classes were conducted in living rooms, mid-size classes were conducted in the dining room, and smaller classes in the kitchen. In the summer of 1951, the university started with the construction of its permanent campus and inaugurated its first permanent building in 1955. Over the years the university continued to have multiple facilities in the university.
