- The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies establishes the minimum admission requirements common to all applicants, usually a minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC).
- Applicants should hold a four-year Bachelor's Degree with First Class/Division 1 (65%) or Very Good (8 on a 10-point scale)

Should a student have deficiencies in any of these areas, it may be possible to make up these deficiencies during the M.Sc. program. However, only up to 6 credits of Food Science core courses may be counted as credit towards the MSc requirements.
