NZ Post Study Work Visa
NZ PSW visa or Post Study Work Visa is a type of visa approved by Immigration New Zealand. This allows international students to stay and work in New Zealand after completing their studies in educational institutes in NZ. The duration of NZ PSW visa is up to 3 years, depending on what qualification you studied.
To get a Post Study Work Visa in New Zealand, there are some eligibility criteria decided. No students will get this without fulfilling the criteria. Let us understand it better:

In November 2024, Immigration New Zealand made several changes in the rules of the PSW visa and the list of qualifications eligible for a Post Study Work Visa. We have listed every change below, so you understand technical information in easy language;
According to Immigration New Zealand “Students who studied a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in NZ for 30 weeks and immediately progressed to a Master’s degree, but were not enrolled in the Master for 30 weeks, are now eligible to apply for a Post Study Work visa (PSWV) based on their PGDip enrolment. This will give students more flexibility in their course of study and ensure they can remain eligible to work following their qualification.”
For Example: If an Indian student is currently enrolled in any PGDip program offered by any university in NZ) for 30 weeks. After completing this course, you have to get admission in a Master’s course to be eligible to apply for a Post Study Work visa (PSWV).
Changes in the List of Qualifications Eligible for a PSW Visa
- If you are qualified to be a teacher at a secondary school in NZ, there is no need for a Bachelor’s degree specializing in Science, Mathematics, Technology or Pacific Languages.
- If you complete a Diploma in Engineering (Level 6) in New Zealand, specializing in Mechanical Engineering, you are now eligible to apply for a Post Study Work Visa (PSWV).

An Indian student needs INR 84,998 (1,715.4NZD) per month to cover the living expenses in NZ excluding house rent.
