U.K. is Difficult for International Students
Tips: It was a huge cultural shift, as there were fewer Asians compared to now coming to study in the U.K. Chester is a lovely place. Scholarships: I was a self-funded student and paid £13,860 per academic year (2018-2023). I had secured scholarships from India and got about £2000 scholarship towards my PhD tuition fees (which isn’t available now) With regards to my PhD research, it was independent work with no lectures or classes. My supervisor was very supportive throughout my PhD. In terms of the MSc taught course, I find it very challenging, as there are no good lecturers in the university for a few courses.
Likes (Public transportation): Honestly, traveling out of Chester is incredibly easy, mostly because the train station is so well connected. You can just hop on a direct train and be in Liverpool or Manchester in no time or easily head down to London and over into Wales without dealing with a million transfers. You can even catch trains straight up to Scotland or through the Midlands without a massive hassle. For getting around the city itself, the local buses are a decent shout. They have a good variety of routes that cover the main areas, even if they don't always run as late as you’d want them to on certain nights. If the buses aren't running, you can always rely on the local private taxi companies around town. Uber is also widely available here and super reliable when you're stuck, though the pricing can be a bit all over the place depending on the day and the time you're booking. If you're heading out on a weekend, just be ready for those surge prices, but you'll at least always find a ride.
Dislikes (Internships): I gave Chester a low score for internships and job prospects because the university is honestly a massive letdown when it comes to the biotech sector. Since Chester operates heavily as a teaching university rather than a proper, high-output research hub, the laboratory equipment is seriously lacking, which ends up severely limiting the actual hands-on, practical experience you can get. If you’re trying to build strong connections with the biotechnology industry, you’re basically on your own because the uni's network just isn't there. As a student, my biggest frustration was how they treat their own postgraduate researchers. I came in expecting far more support when it came to stepping into internal academic jobs or post-doc roles after finishing. Instead, the university consistently overlooks its own PGR students and openly prefers hiring outsiders. They basically treat international grads like a visa hassle they don't want to deal with. It sucks because you’re completely left to fend for yourself right when you need that first breakthrough in academia.

Is a supportive university with a great learning in a safe student city.
Tips: Before joining, students should be prepared for an individual learning environment where time management is very important. I recommend students actively use universities' career services and start applying for internships and graduate opportunities early. Chester is a safe and beautiful city, making it comfortable for the international students to live in.
Likes (Safety): I felt very safe throughout my time studying in Chester. The campus had good security measures and CCTV, well-lit pathways, and support services for students. The city itself is peaceful, and I never had any major safety concerns while travelling or returning home, even in the evenings. People were generally friendly and helpful which made settling into a new country much easier.
Dislikes (Internships): The university provided some guidance through the career team and job portal; finding an internship or apprenticeship in my field still required individual effort. There are limited opportunities specifically related to genetics and laboratory science, and competition is high. I would have appreciated more industry partnerships, networking events and dedicated support for international students looking for relevant internships.

MSc Financial Technology (FinTech) and Business Analytics - Batch of 2026

UNIVERSITY OF CHESTER IS QUITE OKAY
Tips: Coming here to join this course was not up to expectations. Here it's not like how we expected; the weather, food options, and part-time jobs are very different. It is difficult to adjust at first, but eventually everything will be fine. Budgeting is an important factor. The tutors are nice, but I do not like the teaching compared with India. Only 20 percent is what they teach; the rest we need to learn, understand, and write for assignments. The structure is different. It is not possible to study the practical side of a subject here. Quite worth the feels. I would say you can join here if you have certain experience, or join as an undergraduate. Many international students, especially from India, are studying for a master's. Not many Britons come here for master's; most can be seen as undergraduates. Many come here for PSW options. Students mostly stay in Chester, Liverpool, and Manchester. I say there are many options to stay in Liverpool, as there are cheap accommodation and food options for Indians, Sri Lankans, and Arabs. Part-time is difficult to get, so most of them go for care home or off-licence jobs. It is good if you want to get international exposure for quite some time, and you can work full-time during weekends.
Likes (Safety): Safety is a positive factor here at the university. I am studying at Queen's Park Campus. Other than students or staff, no one can enter without permission. Students or staff can enter the university with their cars. If any issues happen, the university will take strict action. As a bad experience, one or two times on the bus, they didn't give change for a big amount, so we had to use a card or mobile app for bus travel.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): We need to check online which jobs are available for sponsorship; otherwise, there is an option called the career hub at our university to check for post-study jobs. Job roles with this course, you can check with placement if opting for 2 years, maybe with banks, financial roles, or business analyst roles.

If education is your top priority, then choose this university.
Tips: A cultural shift is obviously present here, you need to mingle with all students of different ethnicities. I got a 2000-pound scholarship and it's better if we apply before enrolling here. I'm 100 per cent satisfied with the experience and curriculum of the course and post-graduation here in University but not with the country as there are a lot of flaws in the country, I often faced racism here.
Likes (Student Life): Library facilities and sports, gyms and everything in the University has provided a great place for spending time. As a postgraduate student, I really love it here every day there are games of different sports conducted and we need to register to participate. CSU in university is the union which organises all the events and other sports clubs that are there for every sport like cricket, hockey, football, swimming, callisthenics etc.
Dislikes (Part time work): There is very low availability of part-time jobs in the University, canteen and other event day jobs. The payment is the minimum wage in the UK. Part-time is manageable if you do under 15 hours more than that and we won't be able to focus on studies. There are job opportunity facilities here but they don't even give you a proper output of jobs so don't expect that here.

Assignments and teaching methods are different
Tips: I had a different study experience here compared to India. The teaching methods they follow here are completely different to what I have experienced in India. The assignments we do also differ a lot. Apart from that, the university is just fine with a lot of international students. I don't go to any university events as I live far away but you might like the university as it is much more fun.

Good university to study.
Tips: I am an undergrad student, first I thought that everything would be easy but it is not. If you also want to come and take up a Bachelors course prepare your mind. Not many Indian students will be in an undergrad class for Masters there are many so at first it feels like something alone but then it gets better. Chester is a small town but a good one, for me it is better as I don't want myself in a big city yet I want abroad exposure. I got an international scholarship of 2000 GBP and my course is good. In this university there are many unique courses mostly for students. Before applying be sure about what you want to study and whether will that help you or not then apply because the course curriculum is very specific.
Likes (Quality of faculty): More focus is given on assignments rather than exams. Some of the exams are MCQ based. The teaching method is more like students teaching the professors about a topic while the professor adds pointers and clear the doubt. I like this method more as it helps to learn and remember fast. Professors are very supportive and helpful at the same time and they motivate us.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking. I learned it myself, before coming to UK I could only make tea but then I realised that it is better to learn cooking as it is cheaper and homemade which is better for health. Some Indian restaurants are in Chester like Chain station for veg food and some halaal options are also available for non veg in balti house.

It was absolutely amazing. The city and campus was spot on. I would recommend this to everyone.
Tips: Good grades are not enough to get you a job nowadays. The competition is very high. Make sure to get some work experience alongside your studies. Even if it is just on the weekends, part time jobs and internships will have a great impact on your resume.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Close to Manchester, Liverpool and Crewe you can find opportunities in various SME’s as well as MNC’s that are willing to offer you a visa sponsorship given you have the right qualifications and work experience for the job. The cost of living in these areas is also very affordable.
Dislikes (Internships): The university was very cautious about everyone’s health and wellbeing and thus not many opportunities were posted on the student job board but as soon as the situation was more stable, there were some really exciting opportunities. They did have many part time options in the university.

Moving Abroad for your Masters is possible
Tips: Unlike in India, you are on your own here, so be prepared for that. The university is really good, and the student support is excellent. You can avail scholarships up to 2000 pounds. For a middle-class girl, moving abroad was a dream, and most of them told me it requires 25 to 30 lakhs. I paid around £12250 for the fees after my scholarship (2024 Sep intake—fees might vary). If you’re applying for a loan, don’t worry; focus on your academics and work part-time, and you’ll be able to finish off your debts.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Throughout my master's, I had my faculties, helping me with all the resources intensively. If you’re someone who is hesitant to ask your doubts, then you’re going to find it hard. Use the library, the student support cell. Connect with your professors proactively; reach out to them in class or via Teams. They are always there for you.
Dislikes (Internships): Since I haven’t opted for a placement year. I had comparatively less guidance from the university after the completion of my master's. It’s your responsibility to find yourself an internship, and nobody is going to spoon-feed you; hence, connect with your professors proactively, and I’m sure they are going to help you.

Productive and Studious. Apart from what i title it, it depends on how you take it.
Tips: If you have anything else in your mind before coming to chester other that studying, like trying to focus less on studies and more in earning money, this is going to be difficult. you can earn what a normal student can earn in part time, nothing much.
Likes (Part time work): The choices if part time are vast off campus, on campus you have to try hard. Time management is easy if you give yourself a proper schedule to studies and part time. average pay out is the NI pay , which is 12.50 as of now. might get low or high depending on when you come here.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I would say if you have skills and proper license you might have chances of getting sponsored. Dont just think you can grab to branches and make it work. No, it doesn’t work that way. Be prepared to fry your brains first and then you can concentrate on earning and stuff. I am repeatedly saying these because i see most of the students going through this.

Beautiful fun loving and nostalgic
Tips: Before you actually arrive at Essex, you definitely want to sort out your housing and figure out how you're getting around. The Colchester campus is pretty unique because it’s built around these massive concrete squares, and honestly, it is incredibly easy to get completely lost during your first week. You’ll save yourself a massive headache if you pull up the campus map early and get a feel for where your lecture halls actually are. It’s also a really smart move to download your module syllabus and timetable the second they go live so you aren't scrambling and missing classes right off the bat. Outside of campus, make sure you explore the town of Colchester itself. It’s actually Britain's oldest recorded town, so it has a cool historic vibe, but you'll want to figure out the bus routes from campus into the town center early on so you know where the best food spots, supermarkets, and pubs are.

Lovely campus good facilities
Tips: They actually have scholarships for anyone who cleared their HSC with over 60%, but just heads up—you also need to score really well in English to qualify. The info I got was solid, but honestly, the whole study abroad scene in the UK is a bit of a mess right now. With all the recent law changes and them cutting back on post-study work (PSW) visas, it’s getting tricky. You definitely need to do your homework and research everything thoroughly before making a move.

Balanced growth, strong support with room to improve.
Tips: Programme structure is rigorous but rewarding; workload can be heavy in core terms. Campus resources are strong like the library, career centre, counselling but some services have long wait times. Housing options vary by department; apply early and check visa/tuition requirements if you're international. Caring into a new city can be overwhelming at first, but peer groups and orientation events helped a lot. Cultural differences mainly involve communication style and time management expectations.
Likes (Safety): The campus feels very secure with a visible security presence well-lit areas and quick response times. Low crime rates in the area and a strong sense of community trust. The university will not provide any support for internships.
Tips: A lot of cultural shifts happen but it's not related to college, I say. It depends on who you are living with after coming here. I have got a 5000 scholarship for the total tuition fees because of my graduation percentage. So if you have a good percentage in graduation, worth asking the university for any support. I am satisfied with my university very well but not with the country. Long-term settlement is not so good in this country.
Likes (Indian Food): Plenty of Indian restaurants and international cuisines are there. It completely depends on the individual and their working patterns. If they can manage, they should cook or else if you want to eat out, you have plenty of options available.
Dislikes (Internships): The university will not provide any support for internships like in India, here we have to do everything on our own. You need to find on your own and there will be a tri-party agreement among the university, the student and the company. Also it's not worth doing a placement course in the UK.

The college is great and offers variety of courses and the campus is the best.
Tips: If you want to go to a university with a good campus, then the University of Essex is the place to go. Some of the courses they offer are not as good as others, so choose your course based on the ranking. The university ranks well for students with a math background, but they offer a variety of courses with slightly different modules, so choose the course that is right for you. I am quite satisfied with my experiences.
Likes (Safety): I felt safe walking to the university even though it was a bit of a distance from the city. The surroundings were good and secure and I never felt unsafe. It was convenient to travel there but it was still safe to travel.
Dislikes (Value for money): Even after getting the scholarship the quality of education for a particular course was not that good. Some of the professors weren't as good as expected and the college only lasted for 6 months. After that you would have to work on your major project from home.

A budget ranking university for computer science.
Tips: It is a good university if you’re looking for a budget, ranking and amenities for computer science department. This university is located a bit far away from London which makes it bit hard to travel around in UK. But this gives you the advantage of living on a budget.
Likes (Student Life): This university gives good study exposure, entertainment and affordability in living as it is located a bit far away from the city. As a student, it’s your job to make sure that you make the best out of it by studying and keeping yourself updated for the assignments.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part time work in the university is easy to get but you get only a few hours of work. Hence, you may need to find more part time jobs to support yourself. Tips: Campus and faculty are great. Might have to struggle a bit for relevant work experience so if you can ride that out financially, it’s a good experience. The city is great. Limited options when it comes to hanging out but you can always go to London which isn’t far.
Likes (Indian Food): Plenty of food options in the city and online for Indian/South Asian food. Good takeaway options as well. Might help to learn cooking though as delivery fees are a lot and not something I was used to paying. Other than that, plenty of choices for both Indian and other cuisines.
Dislikes (Part time work): It’s slightly difficult to find part time work relevant to my course (MBA) in Colchester as there’s not much work here. So, the part time options are restaurants or call centers, etc. If you get online, you might find work elsewhere around but you’ll have to spend on transportation then.

For sure, it is a brand. You have to decide what you want from the University.
Tips: I would say, please participate in all the activities that come your way. Also, the academic curriculum is a blend of remote classes and physical classes. It is also very important to do a lot of self study so that you can improve your base. There's a very big library and a study center with computers, use that as much as you can.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is good. There's a very active student union that brings in new events every now and then. Plenty of societies to join and a good campus with loads of facilities. Facilities include a gym, sports center and a huge campus with greenery. There are a couple of restaurants and takeaways too. There are also other shops for daily needs within the campus.
Dislikes (Internships): I have done a masters degree. So, we did not have enough time to do an internship. University does not help much in getting an internship. However, there are websites called careerhub and gradintel wherein even alumni can have access and look for internships and jobs, including part time jobs.

Peace If I would say this word then I really mean it. We had a really beautiful university
Tips: Weather conditions were the first thing that you will face, as it took me almost 2 months to get used to it, like it was extremely cold and used rain very unusually. It is advised to check the weather before leaving your room. Yes, I got like £5k scholarship based on BSc marks. It's like a 10 out of 10 experience in terms of university courses and countries.
Likes (Public transportation): My accommodation was roughly a 20-minute walk from the main University of Essex campus which was fine most days. But whenever I was running late or just didn't feel like walking, I'd just hop on the bus. The transit links around Colchester are actually great—the bus stop was literally right outside my building with buses pulling up every 10 minutes, so it saved my life more than once. Getting to the train station was a 20-minute walk the other way. Made it incredibly easy to head into town or just grab a train down to London on weekends.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Basically, when the sponsorship rate to hire an international student was less than most of the companies used to hire, but now the minimum sponsorship package is £41k, which is almost double, so it's really difficult to find a sponsorship. So in my field the job offered are analyst, junior analyst, data analyst, and business analyst, and the salary depends on the company policy

Good academics and friendly campus.
Tips: I believe what students should really prepare themselves for before going to university is the curriculum. You should have the habit of writing. We'll have to take coursework of usually 3000-5000 words so mugging up won't really help you. You need to learn to express yourself.
Likes (Public transportation): Colchester is a beautiful town and the buses ply through the university campus and there are bus passes which have a student discount. The frequency of buses going to the main city centre is actually great. I recommend getting the annual pass to the city centre as it saves a lot. If you are travelling elsewhere you can purchase a separate ticket but you'll end up saving a lot till the city centre.
Dislikes (Internships): Looking for an internship totally depends on the student. One should ideally plan the intership hours based on the class timings. Plan your days and provide a schedule to your intership provider for complete clarity. You will not want to miss your classes and at the same time not miss the internship hours.

Good course content and helpful faculty.
Tips: I had a scholarship for my master's and I could easily blend in the environment, everyone is so helpful around the campus especially the faculty also there to guide you. My course was brilliant and I love the way it was curated. I was very satisfied with my uni because it has so many other facilities and support.
Likes (Public transportation): It is because the bus service is very convenient and punctual and also you can track your buses on the application. Every bus goes through the uni which makes it more approachable and easy to travel. I paid around 150 pounds for a year altogether and I got a student discount as well and received a bus pass. Also, you get a student ID with which you can get a student discount around the city.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): It is because the sponsorship route has become more challenging and difficult to achieve and not every company is willing to provide sponsorship to a mere graduate without a decent experience. mostly IT, Software engineering and healthcare sector and also care homes they are offering sponsorship, mostly according to my research.

Very vibrant and fun student life.
Tips: It is a good learning experience. I would advise trying to make the best of opportunities from the start. There was a transition in terms of lifestyle, classroom experience, weather, and overall culture. I received a £5000 scholarship based on merit. Satisfied with my course, but I believe there could be more feedback from lecturers and support for career opportunities.

The new chapter away from home.
Tips: Shifting here made me more independent and responsible. There was a cultural shift, it was for the good, as it was so refreshing to interact with people from different backgrounds. I am extremely satisfied, I do miss my country sometimes but here I feel at home too.
Likes (Safety): There is always a police presence on campus, and at night the streets are well-lit. Also, there are CCTV cameras throughout the city. On my first day, I got lost but a stranger not only showed me around but also bought me a coffee.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The food is nice and affordable. However, there are not many options for international students. There are at least two Indian restaurants, one of which is very affordable. I usually cook for myself, but going out to eat occasionally is nice.
