Master of Science in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2027
4.2
A demanding but rewarding experience at Politecnico Di Milano.
Tips: Before joining Politecnico di Milano students should know that courses are demanding and require self discipline. Basic Italian helps a lot in daily life outside the university. The education system is different with more focus on independent learning. Transition will be challenging but manageable. I got the DSU scholarship, which covers 95% of your expenses throughout your university journey.
Likes (Safety): My experience in Milan has been very positive in terms of feeling secure. The city is generally peaceful and I have not faced any situations where I felt unsafe even when travelling alone at night. Public transport is well managed and feels safe for use. Politecnico di Milano also takes student safety seriously. One thing I would suggest is that you be a bit more attentive to your belongings when you are at some tourist places, as I have heard about snatching incidents but I have never witnessed any.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Living in Milan has a good work-life balance, rich culture global-level interactions and a peaceful lifestyle. The cost of living is quite high so this can be difficult especially for students. Another important factor is language barrier. Without adequate Italian, it can be challenging to find part-time work or even jobs after completing your degree, as it limits access to many opportunities, even if you have strong qualifications. My chance of permanent settlement depends on my ability to improve my Italian skills, and if I find any good opportunities, I think I will take them without thinking twice.

Most part-time jobs require fluent Italian, which is difficult for an international students.
Tips: Being very academically focused means that you will need to study for more than 8 hours a day. Most part-time jobs in and outside campus require fluent Italian, which is not possible for an international student. Some students here do try to deliver food as a part-time job, which is a bit hard, but the pay is good. Most students are eligible for full scholarships. I got a DSU full scholarship, which provides for my accommodation, college fees, and food. The catch is that I have to satisfy a yearly credit requirement. If I don’t, I will have to pay for everything they provided up to that point.

Study under the Aurora Borealis and make a memory for a lifetime.
Tips: The students should be well aware of how the weather is going to be, as it could be harsh for some, but many might enjoy it. Moving abroad has been a new experience you learn to handle a lot of things alone, and you definitely will undergo a cultural change that will bring out a new perspective for students at Uppsala. It's quite competitive to get a scholarship, as a majority of students compete for 1 scholarship; hence, it's quite hard to get.
Likes (Quality of faculty): In my opinion, I had a good experience with the faculty, they were approachable, kind and understanding. The teaching methodology is very research-based. You get to learn a lot of new techniques that have been developed by various PIs in Uppsala, which is quite a game changer. The teaching faculty is quite diverse.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Unlike India, where there are placement offices and a special team working to ensure you get a job, it doesn't work like that in Sweden. It's heavily reliant on networking. To work in academia is also the same, as it is quite competitive and students are required to get in touch with PIs as early as they would like to start working. The majority of the companies in Sweden sponsor visas for work, but with the change in the job market, it's quite tough to land the right job at the right moment. The tip for upcoming students is to begin early. Job roles and salary are dependent on your experience and needs. As a fresher, you can expect anything between 33,500-38,000 SEK before taxes as the salary.

Average University, much better options available.
Tips: Education level is very low as compared with Indian or US education level. I am finding it hard to cope with Swedish education system. Teaching is done by PhD students and not by professors most of the time. Assignment is the only thing you have to do. I am considering to drop out of the University in next semester.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transport is good but very expensive. Buses are well connected with campus and city centre. The only good thing about this city is public transport. During snow, buses run late but it's everywhere. Trains are well on time usually. So public transport is good.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are very less part time jobs. Also if some jobs are available they pay you very less money. On-campus jobs are near to impossible to secure as they always want Swedish speaking candidates. Same with part time jobs no scope for English speaking population.

Affordable and the best, best student life and amazing experience.
Tips: Students should know the weightage of their course work and they have to plan accordingly. Also there will be more hindrances and hurdles while you study here in Europe. You need to be prepared for that and you should stay motivated. I would suggest that Europe is the best place to do your master's degree.
Likes (Student Life): I have the best student life here. I met so many international people here and had a wonderful experience. Parties, group discussions, study groups everything here is amazing and mind-blowing. I really like the vibe of the city and the amazing student experience
Dislikes (Internships): Low opportunities for internships here, for my course I either have to go to some other city or I cannot do it remotely. A lot of research opportunities are there but a year of experience is needed for all the jobs and internships here. Getting internships is pretty hard for my course here.
