The faculty is extremely well-qualified and leading in their respective fields.
Tips: There is definitely a lot of exposure to different cultures, and a lot of freedom given to students. Students at the University of Toronto Mississauga are in charge of their own studies, which I think was probably the biggest cultural change. Unlike in school, you are responsible for your own progress, and nobody will follow up with you. You take charge of your education and assignments. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the experience. While the workload can be tough, the assignments help us gain a better understanding of the topic and subject. The University of Toronto has definitely helped shape my personality and made me more independent.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is extremely well-qualified and leading in their respective fields. Professors are increasingly helpful and kind, especially during office hours, and will patiently explain concepts until fully understood. Some professors go out of their way to accommodate students. Teaching assistants are also extremely helpful. The teaching methodology is mainly research-centric, with many assignments involving research and project work, which aids in better understanding. The campus's diversity is reflected in the teaching faculty, with professors of various nationalities.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The campus is well-connected to the rest of the city, being a major bus stop in Mississauga with nearly all buses passing through. While bus connectivity is excellent, occasional delays do occur, though rarely. I've rated it four stars because, although there's good bus service, the train connectivity throughout the city isn't as strong, and you'll primarily rely on buses.

Pretty good place and friendly people.
Tips: The cultural shift here is real and expected, but not as bad as one would anticipate. Once you spend some time on campus, you will find yourself immersed in the city life and your classes to the point you'll have a pretty sorted routine. There are a bunch of mixers held downtown, so always stay a step ahead and network like a pro. Try to be active during classes and discussions, and ask as many questions and doubts you have. The faculty really understands and loves clarifying doubts.

Tips: I have seen lots of changes in myself after coming here, and participation is seen as a necessity, not just optional. There is a strong Indian community here, which gives me a sense of familiarity, and there are also various part-time jobs you can try out, such as in fast-food restaurants or grocery stores. They're relatively open to hiring students. I didn't get any scholarships, but I would say I am satisfied and happy here.

The city is quite expensive to live in for a student.
Tips: The city is bustling but welcoming. It's also a very expensive place to study, but luckily, I don't have to pay for my accommodations because I live with relatives. It's a great arrangement, and they're extremely kind. The campus is massive, so you will want to bring water with you so you don't dehydrate. The classes tend to be case-driven. So far, I'm very pleased with my choice of university.

Hard coursework and degree.
Tips: The programme I am in is beyond challenging. You'll need to grind harder than you're prepared for to make it through. It’s a lot of work, but I believe it's worth it. There are tons of job opportunities in the Toronto STEM job market, so none of your hard work will go to waste, and the good thing is that there’s a huge market for STEM in Toronto, so no skill of yours will ever be wasted. There will be sleepless nights because of endless assignments and deadlines, but the market for your skills here is large, so it will ultimately be worth it.

Tips: Since my major is slightly unconventional, my experience has also been unique. The campus is big, people are nice and there's stuff to do. Tips: Initially, everything seemed pretty laid back and chill, but once class progressed, you could feel the intensity. It goes beyond mere coding, and the curriculum is very theory-based as well. From cultural shift to success a rewarding journey.
Tips: Adapting to campus life can be challenging, especially for students from different cultural backgrounds. The academic rigour, social expectations, and even the food can feel foreign and overwhelming. One of the biggest hurdles is often communication. Nuances in language, humor, and social cues can easily lead to misunderstandings and feelings of isolation. Students might hesitate to participate in class discussions, fearing they won't be understood or judged. Similarly, navigating social events and making friends can be difficult when cultural norms differ significantly. Besides that, the campus is well connected to the rest of the city through multiple modes of transportation. Ticket prices are affordable and the routes are well-marked, ensuring a straightforward and convenient travel experience. You won't need to worry about public transport.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Many companies do not provide sponsorship for work visas, which makes it challenging for international students to find employment. The job market is saturated in 2024–2025, which makes it difficult to find opportunities. Networking is the key to landing roles.

The university is great although highly competitive and academic.
Tips: It is a world-class institution, but it is highly competitive. You will have to study a lot to survive. A transition from high school is natural. I am here on a 50% scholarship. You can apply for it. Overall, I am very satisfied with the University of Toronto.
Likes (Safety): I rated the University of Toronto high on safety because I felt safe on campus and in the surrounding areas. I never saw any shootings, and campus police are available at all hours. The university also provides multiple emergency contacts for students. The only potential risk I saw was from homeless people at night, but even then I felt safe.
Dislikes (Part time work): I rated the University of Toronto low on part-time work because campus and off-campus jobs are easily available. However, the university is highly competitive, and most students don't have time for part-time work. Some jobs are even available remotely, such as being a PA or TA, which can pay up to 500 CAD per week or 2000-2400 CAD per month.

University of Toronto (Scarborough) - smaller campus, better exposure, better opportunities.
Tips: Getting out of your comfort zone is essential at the beginning of your studies at the University of Toronto. You will need to adapt to the weather and the people, and there will be a cultural shift because there are people from all around the world. Do not shut any experience off. Make connections with faculty members because they will nominate you for scholarships and awards. Overall, since this is a smaller campus, the exposure is great, and the opportunities are tremendous. Build connections and network well. This is the only campus that offers co-ops, so join a co-op programme and get experience while you are studying.
Likes (Student Life): Since I'm on the smaller campus, you get to know everyone. I participated in extracurricular and joined multiple clubs, gaining experience and friendships. It is easy to start with the mentorship programs and then work with a senior mentor to guide you through academic, social and extracurricular on campus.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): You don't need visa sponsorship from your job because you qualify for an open work permit. With psychology, it was easier to get into mental health than psychology but since that was not my area of interest, I added a minor - Statistics and Food Studies. Statistics helped me realize that I want to be a data analyst. It was easier to find jobs in this field.

Great, academically oriented university to study from but expensive.
Tips: In the beginning, you would feel a big cultural shock as the place and its education are quite different from that in India. But, you would find many people from India and all around the world who are willing to talk, know about you and share their experiences. However, once the years progress you will feel a sense of competition which is a good thing, as everyone becomes more aware and concerned about their future. Also, the university provides us opportunities to experience and learn about several different fields and sub-fields of study in the giant universe of ECE, where each sub-field could have a different career path. The university also has resources like ECC and others to help you prepare for the jobs, but securing a job is quite difficult in my field of study, especially at this economic phase. Regarding the scholarships, I didn't receive any and many of my international friends didn't either. Most scholarships require you to be a Canadian citizen or PR but there are exceptions and few international students do get the scholarships. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my university, course and country.
Likes (Quality of faculty): I think the faculty is quite easy to access and approach and is highly knowledgeable in their concepts and field of study. There is more focus on hands-on learning through practicals than most other colleges though the weightage of it towards the overall course grade is usually few, they prefer to put more weightage towards written exams. In terms of diversity, you would find teaching faculty coming from all around the globe, China, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Switzerland, and so many others.
Dislikes (Part time work): I think it is easy to find a part-time job in this area but doing a part-time job while studying is quite difficult for an undergrad ECE student at UofT. Most technical courses are workload-heavy with several lengthy assignments which spare little to no free time. Maybe for Masters, the picture would be different.

Tips: Canada is very welcoming. I did not experience a cultural shift because I have lived abroad before. I did apply for a scholarship but unfortunately could not get the scholarship but I know many people who got one. The course is good for quickly getting Canadian working experience. It is however not the best course if you want a classroom experience because you only take 4-5 classes a week.

Tips: UofT provides you with tremendous opportunity to boost your career. Alumni are friendly. You can participate in a plethora of activities with students from other departments. There are not many scholarships available at Master's level but a lot for Ph.D.
Likes (Student Life): UofT campus is always buzzing with activities and events. It is easy to find a peer group and have some fun while learning new skills. During orientation you will get an opportunity to enroll in a vast array of clubs. There is always free food at some or the other event on the campus where you can make friends.
Dislikes (Part time work): All upcoming students get an option to apply for Teaching Assistantship roles. Moreover, students can connect with faculty members for Research Assistantship roles. Alumni is very friendly, you can reach out to them for part time roles in the industry.

Tips: One good thing about UOFT is that it is very diverse and people always accept and respect others. You don't have to change yourself to fit in. I am a permanent resident. I didn't apply for scholarships.
Work is stressful. But overall social life is fun.
Likes (Indian Food): Lots of Indian food is available. Restaurants are very good. Pricing depends on the ambience. I have a meal plan with the university, so I don't cook. I live in downtown, so you get everything here. Indian restaurants have similar food to India, and there is one located in every locality.
Dislikes (Safety): This is the main campus located in downtown, Toronto. The other two are subsidiaries. - downtown is often surrounded by homeless people, often drug addicts. It gets sketchy during the night. My recommendation is to always travel in groups, especially during the night.

Tips: The university is known for its academic standards therefore the quality of courses is good and so are the marking criteria of the professors who teach the courses. The expectation from Masters students is to work on par with Ph.D. scholars and perform better since this degree usually prepares you for pursuing a Ph.D. degree in future.
Likes (Indian Food): Toronto is a vibrant city with cosmopolitan culture and food of every kind is available in the city and also this university. I as an Indian and a hard-core vegetarian. I was able to enjoy the street food and also there are many Indian veg cuisine restaurants present as well. I never found it difficult to find food.
Dislikes (Student Life): Everyone is engaged in their own activities due to course loads with less activities which students can indulge in together.

It is a good university.
Tips: It's a good university but if you are more research-oriented then go for US universities. The weather is not great in Canada. If you are person who loves sunlight or going out then say goodbye to both of them. The campus is scattered and in the middle of the city.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Good chance of getting a PR if you have enough points. You also get a Post Graduation Work Permit once you graduate. It is an open work permit and the duration depends on the length of the programme.
Dislikes (Value for money): It's okay but not a great programme. They charge too much for the courses they are offering. It is good that there is an internship at the end of the programme otherwise it would have taken a lot of time to repay the loan.

Tips: Uoft is the most prestigious university in Canada. Canadians really give you the awe moment when they know you're studying at this university. Some of the courses are of top-notch particularly Data Science courses. Others are okay. You would know how to survive in the industry. Top companies came to the universities to offer internships and projects. That's pretty much everything. The only con is that the fees is much higher than any other university in Canada. I do not feel any cultural shift personally. But one must be ready to accept ideologies. So, it depends on the person. In my course, there isn't any but MASc. and Ph.D. offered few scholarships to students. Overall, I am satisfied with my university and course.

Tips: Students need not worry about anything, as the transition is made very smoothly through the Welcome Week. These activities help you settle in every way - whether it's attending classes, joining societies, gaining visa-related information, or mingling with fellow course mates. The University location is highly convenient, with everything close by, as Leeds is a very student-friendly city. The M.Sc. in International Business course is highly practical, with a strong focus on case studies that connect you to real-world business scenarios.
Likes (Value for money): Value for money is truly worthwhile, as the practical exposure gained through industry visits, assignments, and part-time jobs is phenomenal. I also had the opportunity to participate in a global study tour, which was highly insightful. I even had an opportunity to work as a Link to Leeds Ambassador, which gave me an opportunity to connect and work with people from all over the world.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Many companies offer visa-sponsored jobs; however, securing such an offer requires strong skills, professionalism, and relevant experience in the role. Salary ranges vary by position and are aligned with industry standards, ensuring fair and competitive compensation.

Tips: Be mindful of friendships that could hinder your progress. Prioritise your goals and be direct. Don't delay applying for internships; prepare your CV promptly. The culture here often revolves around socialising, and unfortunately, racism can be an issue in the UK.
Likes (Safety): The city is generally safe, especially since it's a student-focused area, and the police are often present around campus. The university app also offers several emergency services for students who feel unsafe. Overall, it's one of the better cities in the UK, though Manchester has a better university.
Dislikes (Value for money): I don't think the Business Management course is worth paying a 1 crore INR tuition fee. The academic experience and university life do not adequately compensate for the investment. The course content feels basic and could be pursued in India. However, I appreciate the opportunities for extracurricular development.

Tips: There is definitely a cultural change to be experienced here, so please be open and friendly to all cultures and try to make friends with everyone. I am satisfied with the university and the course, but probably not the country.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is very nice and supportive to international students. However, my finance teacher in my first year didn't know much about teaching, and despite submitting many complaints, there was no change in their teaching methods.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I don't want to live in this country for a long time. I have faced racism even though not in the university, and it is also difficult to get a job here with visa sponsorship with the recent change in the governance.

Tips: There are a number of scholarships available; do thorough research to find one that best fits your needs. The university and the city of Leeds are very friendly and helpful, so it becomes easier to get by. Academically, it challenges the traditional methods of studying as it involves a lot of research and deep learning.
Likes (Indian Food): There are a number of Indian restaurants and markets in the city of Leeds. You will also find Indian food at grocery chains such as Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury's, etc. Along with that, there are a number of north and south indian food outlets and restaurants available at a relatively cheaper price to cater to students specifically.
Dislikes (Internships): The University doesn't offer many internships, but there are plenty of full-time and part-time positions available. The Joblink and the career centre at the university are excellent resources for finding work. I personally wasn't able to find any internships through the University, so I'm a big fan of LinkedIn for finding that sort of opportunity.

It's a good university and has an established curriculum and professors.
Tips: The transition was easy since I had a lot of peers who were doing the same thing as I was. Also, I received a 2000 GBP scholarship based on my undergrad grades. The country is good for tech roles currently, if you are not a fresher and have some relevant domain work experience. Overall, I am satisfied with Leeds and the course.
Likes (Indian Food): There are pure veg Indian restaurants in Leeds. Supermarkets have lots of Indian products. I prefer to cook for myself and spend 20-25 pounds a week on groceries + cooking. Eating outside is expensive in the whole UK, which costs around 15+ GBP per meal. For non-vegetarian people, there are a lot more options.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I applied for 30 companies a day for 3 to 4 months, and got an interview for 10 companies, of which 8 were ready to sponsor me. For Software Engineering (mid-senior) 45-90K GBP/year.

Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty are highly approachable and knowledgeable, teachers blend theory with real world cases diverse staff from various countries, bring a lot of experience globally I think around, there were more than 70 faculty globally which bring in a lot of experience and diversity in the method of imparting education and understanding how students work.
Dislikes (Student Life): Lively campus with many events and live gigs. I enjoy library time and the finance club. I also took part in 2 to 3events every month. Events are mostly organised by the in-house clubs and committees. Sometimes from around the city. The most lovely and exciting events were the pop-up stores and impromptu sessions of dance.

Tips: Students should be aware that while University of Leeds has a strong reputation, the support for international students is limited. There was definitely a cultural shift. Adapting to the academic style in the UK especially the self-study approach and limited direct approach was challenging. I didn't receive any scholarship. Accommodation is hard to find near campus. It is quite expensive as well.

It’s hard for international students with limited work experience to get on-campus jobs.
Tips: It is one of the best colleges to study, but don’t kid yourself into thinking it’s easy to get part-time work while you are there, or an entry-level position once you’ve graduated. You may have to do some work experience in the UK or have an in from a graduate before you’ll get a call back. Buses and trains are easily available. The buses are frequent and connect nearly every corner of the city, and also the nearby town. The Leeds Railway station connects the city to cities like Manchester, York, London and New Castle, making it easy to travel nationally. The station is well served and is also close to a local bus stop, making it easy to connect train and bus routes. Also, both bus and train services offer services like cashless payment, real-time online tracking, and student passes, making the transport both technological as well as financially convenient for international students. Overall, I think it is one of the best colleges in the UK, but it does take some effort to join it and I am highly satisfied with my experiences.
Dislikes (Part time work): The University of Leeds has some part-time jobs, but they're scarce and primarily go to experienced students. It’s really hard for international students with limited work experience in the UK to get both on-campus and off-campus jobs. Some international students get part-time jobs, but most of us don’t. Also, it usually takes about six to seven months to find a job. Until then, you have to pay for your meals and other costs.

Tips: One key aspect to know before joining is the unpredictable weather, temperatures can change rapidly. Since all indoor spaces are centrally heated, it's advisable to invest in breathable tops layered with warm jackets instead of heavy winter warmers. Layering is key, and umbrellas are of no use so get raincoats or waterproof jackets instead. The university has an inclusive environment, welcoming students with diverse interests. Even if you don't drink, you'll fit right in. It's all about finding the right circle. For law students, it's particularly beneficial to decide early between the barrister and solicitor pathway. Identifying your top 10 firms or chambers beforehand can help you take advantage of exclusive opportunities for first-year students. The law school offers merit-based scholarships automatically based on your marks each year, anything from a 2:1 and above, there's no need to apply. Eligible students are notified directly. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my experience at the university, the course offerings and life in the country.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is highly affordable and well-connected. Bus rides cost as little as 1-2 pounds, and day passes are also available. While cabs like Uber are relatively expensive, most essential locations are within a 30-minute walk if you live on campus. For students residing off-campus in areas like Burley or Hyde Park, buses are a convenient computing option, although some students still prefer walking. Overall, public transportation is budget-friendly, reliable, and safe for students.
Dislikes (Part time work): As an Indian student without much hands-on experience in roles like waitressing, bartending or receptionist work, securing such positions can be challenging. While there are several on-campus academic-related opportunities, their hourly requirements are generally low. Additionally, international students are restricted to working 20 hours per week, limiting available options. However, on-campus and off-campus jobs can be accessed through the university website, Joblink, LinkedIn or by distributing a resume in person. I currently work around 4 hours per week, which is manageable alongside my academics. The average payout for part-time work ranges between 11-15 pounds per hour.

Wholesome and holistic experience at the University of Leeds.
Tips: One needs to be very sure about which course they are applying for because studying abroad is expensive. They must make the best use of the opportunities here may it be the study abroad programs along with the course, job fair, career workshops or networking events. The University of Leeds was quite helpful in the above, but one must willingly take the initiative to further hone their skills to be job-ready. Overall my experience in the university and the country was absolutely worth it.
Likes (Value for money): I made the best use of the opportunities at the university. There are plenty of resources and opportunities one should use during the course of their study. The faculty are really helpful. There are lots of career development workshops and clubs that help with networking. The city is very student-friendly, too.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It's quite easy to get a graduate visa if you apply at the right time. The process is really smooth. In terms of permanent settlement, it's easy enough if you have the resources and if the circumstances are favourable. This, however, is really subjective.

Tips: My transition to university has been smooth, as has my experience. There has definitely been an eye-opening experience in terms of an educational and cultural shift. There is also a cultural shift that I experienced, particularly in university life. I have been awarded a full-funded scholarship from the state government. I applied for this scholarship through the state government portals. Aside from this scholarship, the university offers other scholarships that one can also apply for. I am very happy with the university and with my course. Leeds University offers a complete academic experience combined with a talented and accomplished faculty.
Likes (Indian Food): A normal day at the university is like going to classes, hanging out with friends, talking about classwork, and joining study groups. I love the events on campus because there are networking events, cultural festivals, and a career fair. It gives us lots of energy. I love that there is a social group that puts on events that promote the well-being of students, both mentally and socially. In addition, I volunteer, and I encourage others to do so as well.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Faculty at university is highly approachable with designed office hours, it is easy for students to ask for guidance on coursework and also for career. The teaching methodology at university is a mix of lectures, seminars and group discussions. Teaching staff demonstrates diversity because professors from multiple nations teach at the university which brings diverse academic views and research approaches into the classroom.

The university has everything that you need but it is up to the students to decide on what they need and they do not. It is a very good experience and the contacts that you make are really helpful. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experiences.
Likes (Safety): Leeds is a very student-friendly city, with international students from all around the world. Leeds is rated as one of the safest cities in the UK and it feels so too. It is very safe and the amenities are available and easily accessible. The transportation is really good and the city even at night has some kind of life and some people are ready to help you if you are in a tough spot.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are a plethora of Indian restaurants in Leeds but there are limited options if you are a vegetarian. The university eatery has a lot of options for non-vegetarian food though and the food is amazing in Leeds. I do cook but also prefer to eat outside at times. The food is slightly on the expensive side if you want to eat out and fancy Indian food, there are multiple Indian and Pakistani stores around from where you can almost get anything you want.

Tips: Students should know how to cook because the takeaway or delivery options are costly. The ready-made food available in stores is also limited option-wise. There are fewer options for vegetarian people. The University, faculty and teaching were up to the mark as I expected. The faculty members were approachable and were always there to help. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences.
Likes (Part time work): Part-time jobs are easy to find. We Indians don't hesitate to put in the work and this is known by the UK employers which is one of the main reasons why Indians can get part-time jobs without difficulty. We just have to look diligently. Plus the pay is also good for the part-time jobs.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Due to changes made in the visa rules for international candidates, it is next to impossible for international students to secure full-time jobs post-graduation. Most of the companies that offer sponsorship hesitate to pay the salary according to the new visa rules.

The experience has been adventurous and wonderful.
Tips: Students should know that we pay a lot to attend these colleges, and we shouldn't waste our time partying. Instead, we should study hard to improve ourselves. I think it's better to get a job here because you get good pay in the United Kingdom. If you come here, you should come for a postgraduate degree, which is better. The internships are not relevant to what we are studying at the college. They are usually salespersons or self-racing or something of that kind at the minimum wage level, which is 11 an hour. It is good if we do a job here.
Likes (Value for money): Leeds gives you a homely vibe and has good opportunities. It's very safe walking on the roads at night and also going to parties at night. Leeds is overall a student town where Indians are in the majority, and the Chinese population is about 30% of the total.

Overall it's a fantastic experience
Tips: When you are studying abroad, be prepared to do everything for yourself, including cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping. Unlike in India, where domestic help is available, you will not have anyone to help you with these tasks. However, the experience will be amazing, and I recommend that everyone try it. Also, be open-minded about the part-time job you get, and do your research to find a course that interests you.
Likes (Public transportation): London has a great public transportation system and is well connected to the university, and there are two ways to get around the city: bus and train. Buses cost 2 Pounds, but you can get a 20% discount if you show your student ID. You can also get a Railcard, which gives you a 33% discount on each train ride. The Railcard is a great deal, but it only applies to train rides, not bus rides.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are many part-time roles available, but the competition is fierce. You need to be persistent in your job search. With a little luck, you can land a job that pays between 6 and 15 Euros per hour. However, you need to be aware that the hourly rate may vary depending on the industry and location of the job.
