What is the Validity of PTE Scores?

As per Pearson (the official test provider and conducting body), the PTE Academic Exam scores are valid for 2 years from the date you took the test. For example, if you took the test on July 15, 2025, your PTE score is valid until July 14, 2027.

After these 2 initial years, your PTE score expires automatically and is removed from the ‘My PTE’ portal. These scores cannot be used for further applications.

Here is the validity period of PTE Academic Exam scores for different purposes:

Application Type

Validity Period

Description

University Admission

2 years

Some universities may accept slightly older scores during extensions. Check with your university before submitting an application.

Australian PR/Visa

3 years (DHA policy)

Australia accepts PTE scores up to 3 years old for visa purposes

UK/Canada/Ireland

2 years

Strict 2-year validity requirement for visa and academic purposes

How to Check Your PTE Score Validity?

To check the validity of your PTE scores or when your score expires:

  • Log in to your ‘My PTE’ account at https://mypte.pearsonpte.com/
  • Go to the ‘My Scores’ section
  • Look for the test date of the last PTE test you took or the one that you wish to refer to. Calculate the 2-year expiry date of your PTE scores from there.

Note:- Don’t confuse the date of booking the PTE exam with the PTE exam date. The PTE exam date is the date you go to the test centre and appear for the exam, you have to refer to this date.

What Happens After My PTE Score Expires?

When your PTE Score Expires, you will:

  • No longer be able to view it on the My PTE portal,
  • Share it with the universities, and
  • Be required to take the PTE test again, if required.

Should You Retake the PTE if Your Score is Nearing Expiry?

If your PTE score is reaching the end of the 2-year validity mark, you must:

  • Retake the PTE exam, and
  • Consider taking it sooner (at least 2 - 3 months before expiry) if your target institutions or embassies have tight timelines.

To avoid the above circumstances, you must keep track of your last PTE test date and set reminders for expiry.

Where is the PTE Score Accepted?

Your PTE score, within its validity period, is accepted for:

  • Admissions by universities and colleges in Australia, the UK, the USA, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, etc., and
  • Immigration purposes (living and working) by the Visa and immigration authorities, such as the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA), the UK Home Office (for student and skilled worker visas), New Zealand Immigration and the Canadian government (IRCC).

PTE Score Validity for Australia

Australia is the most popular destination for PTE test-takers. The country accepts a single PTE Academic test for both - university admissions and for all types of visa applications.

The rules for PTE score validity in Australia vary slightly between university and visa applications. The universities in Australia adhere to the 2-year rule, i.e. the PTE scores remain valid for 2 years. While, the Australian Department of Home Affairs has a special consideration for most skilled migration visa applications. They accept a PTE score that is up to three (3) years old at the time you receive your Invitation to Apply (ITA).

PTE Score Validity for the UK

The UK Home Office is very strict when it comes to the score validity of the PTE exam. The UK Home Office demands that your test date must be less than two years before your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is assigned. For immigration purposes, you are required to take the PTE Academic UKVI test which contains a unique SELT number, required at the time of your visa application. The scores of your PTE Academic UKVI test also remain valid only for the period of two years. However, this test is not accepted for degree-level education in the UK.

PTE Score Validity for Canada

Canada accepts the PTE Academic Exam scores only for the university admissions purposes. For that purpose, your score should not be more than 2 years old at the time of submitting an application.

For immigrating to Canada, you will need to take the PTE Core exam, the scores of which are also considered valid only up to 2 years after the exam.

Q:   Do universities accept pdf form of PTE results?
