Heidelberg University Entry Requirements for Indian Students

The requirements for admission to Heidelberg University Bachelor's and Master's courses change as per the course and study level. 

  • The students must have a higher-education entrance qualification. In simple words, the students must have completed Class 12
  • While seeking admission to the UG courses of Heidelberg University, if the foreign entrance qualification of students is not considered equivalent to the German university entrance qualification, then students have to enroll in Studienkolleg (preparatory course). At Heidelberg University, a Studienkolleg is a two-semester preparatory course. An assessment test has to be given after the completion of this preparatory course.   • For admission to the Heidelberg University Master’s courses, the students must have a Bachelor’s degree

Language Requirements at Heidelberg University

For most of the Bachelor’s courses of Heidelberg University, the language of instruction is German. In that case, students must have German language proficiency. Numerus Clausus (NC) Admission Restrictions at Heidelberg University

NC admission restrictions at Heidelberg Uni are introduced for the courses in which the no. of applications exceeds the no. of places available. In these cases, only the best-qualified applicants are admitted. There are two different types of admission restrictions. One is for a particular course having a national restriction applying to all German universities (such as Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy courses) or a local restriction (Specific to Heidelberg Uni). In study courses with an admission restriction, a special quota is there for international students (5% - 10%).

Students with Access Restriction – A few of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs at Heidelberg Uni have no admission restriction and no entrance exam. But these programs have access restrictions. This means that all students have to meet the minimum entry requirements of the university. 

APS Certificate – A Non-Negotiable Requirement for Indian Students

The submission of an APS Certificate is mandatory for Indian students for admission to Heidelberg Uni. Of late, APS India has introduced an update for selected Master’s students from India. The update outlines that Master’s students whose previous degree falls under the Engineering, Finance, Business, Economics, Commerce, or Management fields have to appear for dMAT (Digital Master Test). Also, APS India has revised the UG entry requirements by introducing the new 70% Class 12 eligibility criteria to study in Germany.
