While Australian Universities continue to rise in the world rankings, the excellent living standards and the high volume of international students add to the many merits of Australia as a favoured destination, especially for Indian Students. Always looking for the value of money options, the other thing that adds credit to Australian Higher Education is the wide number of scholarships available to international students – both at the undergraduate, graduate as well as doctoral levels. These scholarships are primarily classified under two broad categories – one that is offered by the Australian Government and the other that is offered by Universities. The Australian Government, in its initiative to promote developmental education, offers a variety of scholarships to international students. The idea is to offer equal opportunity to exceptional students who may not have the necessary means. Here is a detailed list of scholarships for Indian Students who are planning to take up studies in Australia.

Scholarships awarded by the Australian Government

Australian Award Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • Aimed for Young Leaders with exceptional Talent
  • You must have completed 18 years of age and have the intention of adding to the development of your home country
  • Prefer diversity (women applicants, minority groups, people belonging to rural/ economically weaker sections of society, etc.)

Courses Covered: UG, PG, PhD as well as Vocational & Training courses offered by participating universities/ TAFE institutions
Expenses Covered: Full tuition fees, return air travel, establishment allowance, contribution to living expenses (CLE), Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC),  etc.
Important Dates: Applications for 2023 should start on April 2023 and end by June 30, 2023

Australian Government Research and Training Program (AGRTP)

Eligibility: Must be enrolled for research or doctoral degree

Courses Covered: PG courses only
Expenses Covered: AUD 28,587 per fortnight covers tuition fees for postgraduates.
Important Dates:

  1. Round 1: 31 August 2022

  2. Round 2: 15 April 2023

Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship Award

Eligibility:

  • You must have completed 18 years of age at the time the program starts
  • Starting the course not earlier than January 1 and not later than November 30 of the year you are applying for the scholarship in
  • Must not have received any Australian Government grant in recent years

Courses Covered: Postgraduate - course/ degree-based and PhD programmes
Expenses Covered: Full tuition fee, a travel allowance  of AUD 3,000, establishment allowance  of AUD 4,000, a monthly stipend  of AUD 3,000 up to 2 years for PG / up to 4 years for PhD courses on prorate basis along with health and travel insurance
Important Dates: Applications for 2022 are closed. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will receive an email regarding the outcome of their application in February 2023

International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)

Eligibility:

  • You should qualify as an International Student
  • Fulfil the Student Visa Requirements
  • Be enrolled in a Research Program eligible for this grant
  • Must not have received any Australian Government grant in the 2 years prior to the commencement of the course

Courses Covered: Research-Based PG/ Doctoral programs
Expenses Covered: Full Tuition Fees and Health Cover Costs (for the applicant as well as the dependent)
Important Dates: Applications for 2023 would open in July. They vary from University to university and should be checked individually.

Sydney Achievers International Scholarships by University of Sydney

Eligibility:

  • Should meet the eligibility criteria for the course applying to (UG/ PG)
  • Must have received an Unconditional Offer of Admission to be considered for this scholarship
  • Should have qualified for a valid Visa

Courses Covered: UG and PG courses from University
Expenses Covered: Each scholarship is awarded $AUD 10,000 per annum for the duration of the course; renewable yearly on the maintenance of satisfactory grades
Important Dates: Applications for 2022 have started

University of Sydney International Scholarships

Eligibility:

  • Should meet the eligibility criteria of the PG Research Degree/ Masters Course applying to
  • Proven Excellence
  • Should be part of the universities' list of research courses
  • Should not hold a research degree equivalent to an Australian Research Degree

Courses Covered: Masters by Research/PhD Degree courses
Expenses Covered: Covers the tuition fees and offers a living allowance for up to 3 years of study
Important Dates: Applications for Semester starting in March must be submitted by July 31 of the previous year and for the semester starting  in July by December 15 of the previous year

Macquarie Vice Chancellor's International Scholarships by Macquarie University

Eligibility:

  • Should be an International Student
  • Must have a Full Offer of admission
  • A GPA of 3.0 and above for PG courses and an Average equivalent score of 90 or above for UG courses

Courses Covered: UG and PG courses from Engineering, Environment, Media, Linguistics and Education disciplines
Expenses Covered: A varied amount of up to AUD 10,000 towards your tuition fee which is not renewable
Important Dates: Annual Scholarship deadlines are 30 June of the previous year

Eligibility:

  • Should be an international student
  • Should have completed a tertiary degree equivalent to the 4-year degree course of Australian Universities
  • Must have applied for and is eligible for admission to a master/doctor by research degree
  • Must not have applied for/ completed any research degree prior to the application

Courses Covered: Graduate Research Degrees
Expenses Covered: Living allowance, relocation grant, thesis allowance, and paid sick, maternity and parenting leave along with OSHC
Important Dates: There are two rounds of applications annually, ending October 31 for Round 1 and May 31 for Round 2

Adelaide Scholarships International by the University of Adelaide

Eligibility:

  • Should be an international student
  • Should have completed a tertiary degree equivalent to the 4-year degree course of Australian Universities
  • Must have applied for and is eligible for admission to a master/doctor by research degree
  • Must not have applied for/ completed any research degree prior to the application

Courses Covered: Masters/PhD Degrees
Expenses Covered: Course Tuition Fees, Annual Living allowance along with OSHC (if the applicant holds a valid Student Visa under subclass 574)
Important Dates: The applications for Semester 1 usually end by January 15 and for Second Semester by April 30 but the actual dates may vary from year to year

La Trobe Academic Excellence Scholarships for International Students by La Trobe University

Eligibility:

  • Should be an international applicant
  • Should have scored a minimum of 85% in the previous degree/ high school
  • Meet the general eligibility and English language requirements of the course applying and have an offer for admission by the university

Courses Covered: UG/ PG courses offered by the University
Expenses Covered: An amount varying between AUD 10,000 to AUD 20,000 payable towards tuition fee for a maximum of 2 semesters (1 year)
Important Dates: Round 1 of applications for Semester 1 close usually by December of the previous year and Round 2 closes by January

Hi, isn't the Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship Award closed for the current year since I find that from its official site that for the year 2019, the applications are closed.

Hi Subhasree, yes the applications are closed now. Applications for 2019 were closed on 15-November-2018. Please also note that dates are subject to change so keep checking their official website if you are interested to apply for the Endeavour Scholarship.
