What are these Summer Programs?

As the name suggests, these are short duration courses organized by many Universities during the summer breaks. Usually about 6 weeks long, these are essentially fundamental programs in business that touch upon the various concepts and are meant to acclimatize students to the discipline.

These programs are rather expensive…when offered by the top universities but the experience alone adds volume on your resume. Also, since the programs are short duration courses, a student cannot even avail to a student loan. Hence, for students who might be interested should consider that this would largely be self-financed and the costs can range anywhere upwards of $7,500 for a 6-week course.

Most of these programs are open for final year graduates. There is no limitation of the subject as such. While some colleges prefer students who have a basic understanding of business, finance or accounting, others might not be too choosy.

Advantages of the Summer Business Program

A summer business program can be an excellent opportunity for a student in so many ways. To begin with the obvious, it is the best way to understand what you might be getting into. As most of the short courses act as a bridge program for management, it gives the student the advantage of understanding the subjects that necessary form management. This would be especially beneficial to students that do not have the understanding of the fines nuances of Finance, Accounting, etc.

Apart from the academic insight into MBA, the programs are also an excellent look into the kind of life you can expect. While 6 weeks do not measure to a 2-year full-time program, it is still a window into the possibilities and what you can expect. And finally, even if you do not go back to that institute for your full-time MBA, the training received by you would be an excellent add-on for your resume. While there is no written rule as such, but the experience adds volumes to your resume and would help you both in getting a job after your graduation and at the time when you do apply for MBA.

I am currently in 3rd year civil engineering.I want to do mba in canada after my graduation, I have completed my diploma in civil engineering. I am quite confused wheather to do full time mba or one year..should I attended this summer before joining mba ?..Please telme what is good for my future.
