UK Student Visa: Now you need to show higher finances to cover living costs
UK government recently announced that beginning from November 2015, students applying for Tier 4 status i.e. the student visa to UK, will have to provide evidence of a higher amount of financial savings to cover their living costs than before.
Students need to prove they can support themselves financially for up to nine months, or for the duration of their study. This means that if you will be studying in inner London for a course that lasts one month only, the minimum amount that you will need is £1,020. If you will be studying in inner London for a course lasting nine months or more, the maximum amount that you will need is £9,180.
- Inner London - If you make your Tier 4 application on or after 12 November 2015 the amount will increase to £1,265 from £1,020 per month. Therefore if your course lasts for nine months or more you will have to show £11,385.
- Elsewhere in UK - If you make your Tier 4 application on or after 12 November 2015 the amount will increase to £1,015 from £820 per month. Therefore if your course lasts for nine months or more you will have to show £9,135.
Note: The earlier recommended amount by UKBA was £800 per month.
International students whose first language is not English must meet the English language requirements. Students can submit their IELTS/TOEFL/PTE test score to meet the English language proficiency. Bedfordshire accepts overall IELTS score of 6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each element.
