University of Birmingham offers endless opportunities for growth.
Tips: You need to learn to manage your time well. In my course, we hardly had any breaks, and during term time, it was difficult to have a work-life balance. I came across some people who are not mentally prepared for it. I did not get any time for a part-time job during my term times as I had multiple exams, assignments, and a dissertation along with a tight lecture schedule from 9 am to 6 pm. However, it's not the same for all courses. Most of the courses have only Assignments and absolutely no exams at all, and their lecture schedule is also quite flexible. In other universities in Birmingham, such as Aston, the lecture schedule is quite flexible, which gives students ample amount of time to pursue part-time jobs.
Likes (Student Life): For those who are proactive, believe in taking initiative and want to excel in their career, the University of Birmingham offers endless opportunities for growth. They host various job fairs, career seminars, personality development and skill enhancement seminars, intercultural awareness workshops for international students and formal English modules that you can add to your course and all without any additional fees.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Recently UK has updated their post-study work visa policy, amending the duration for PSW from 2 years to 1 Year 6 months. The time limit for getting citizenship has been increased from 5 years previously to 10 years now, which makes the UK a tough call for someone looking for settlement. Moreover, taxes are super high, which makes the UK unfeasible as an option to settle abroad.

The road to pushing and knowing your limits.
Tips: It taught me a lot of things. I used to be an introvert and had no confidence in talking to strangers, but it brought me out of my shell. I learned how to cook, take care of my finances, look for a house, etc. I am now a much more confident person. Not a lot, but just that people here are pretty self-involved in both good and bad ways. There aren't a lot of scholarships for B-Schools, but like 2-3 people in our class got them from the University. I didn't get one. I believe the university holds a good reputation, and the course was newly launched, so I wouldn't judge it yet because they are improving their curriculum, but it was quite easy, not as stressful as I had thought. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences.
Likes (Public transportation): The University is quite well connected, which was one of the most comfortable aspects. The campus is huge, so you'll have to walk a little, but it's quite good, actually. Buses are pretty convenient, and there is even a train station on the campus itself. Buses and trains cost fairly okay if you take the monthly passes, or if you are in a group, they are even cheaper, so travelling should not be an issue.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Not a lot of companies are willing to give you a visa sponsorship. While some graduate roles might provide that opportunity, even then, there is a 30% chance you'll land a sponsored job as companies prefer candidates who already have the right to work. Salary packages can range anywhere between 28-50,000/annum. There can be many titles for a job role, but the work varies from company to company.

Good college but come with a purpose.
Tips: If you know why you are coming here then you are sorted, but if you don't know and you think you will eventually find out then 1 year is a bit challenging. I personally think if you have the financial freedom to come here then you should as it offers a unique way for you to live your life understand struggle and grow as a human.
Likes (Indian Food): There is a wide variety of food, especially from lots of cuisines so you won't get tired of trying new things but I do feel the prices are exorbitant and eating outside daily could prove costly so its better to learn some cooking from home as it will make life easier for you.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I think it's not the course or university it's mostly the job market in 2024, where the current UK policies make it very tough for graduates to land a sponsored job, this may change or may continue but available jobs are very competitive.

An academically focused institution with highly experienced faculty.
Tips: Students should be clear about the course structure and the prospects of the course in the UK market. Students should check out the scholarships offered by the University. The scholarship offered varies from department to department. And it would be really helpful to manage the finances. Also, don't hesitate to reach out to professors. They are very welcoming, friendly and understanding. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences.

Good university but could do better in terms of the modules.
Tips: The transitioning period was not very difficult. The university had a lot of events to keep everyone engaged and ensure that you fit into the place well. The only extra thought that you have to keep in mind is that you will have to do everything on your own, right from grocery shopping to cooking to finding your own job. I am quite satisfied with the university and the course because I really enjoyed two of the subjects, but I feel like they could improve a lot of other things in terms of the timetable and the modules that were included. It was quite a journey, and I think it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Likes (Indian Food): There are plenty of food options in terms of grocery. Some of the go-to shopping places are Aldi and Sainsbury. Just for an idea, Easy Cook's price is 1 or 1.2 pounds for a kg which is close to 100 rupees. They have their website online so you can look at the pricing there, it is quite accurate. I was lucky enough to have Indian grocery stores around my area. But things like Dal (lentils) are easily available at Sainsbury. Spices are also easily available but I would still recommend taking spices with you as some of them which are cheap in India could be quite expensive here.
Dislikes (Internships): The University of Birmingham provides some guidance for internships through the Birmingham Business School Career Network, but they do not provide direct support. They will help you prepare for an internship, but you will have to find an internship on your own. They have a portal similar to LinkedIn where you can search and apply for internships. The university also offers internships called B-experience internships, which last for about a month. However, these internships are more focused on marketing or operations than finance.
