Importance of a Canada Study Visa

Students who have received an acceptance letter from a Canadian university need to get a study permit in order to study in Canada. It is issued by the federal government of Canada to international students for studying at one of the Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) in the country.

Since the study permit itself is not a visa, approved students are also granted either a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to enter Canada. After reaching Canada, students can get a physical study permit.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   How do I apply to a new DLI in Canada?
A:

When it comes to changing your institution in Canada, there are two scenarios:

  • If your current institution loses its DLI status: In this case, you can study in this institution till the validity of your Canada student visa. However, in this case you will not be able to extend your study permit.
  • If you change your institute: In this case, you will have to sign in to your account and choose the “Transfer from DLI number”. You can then enter further details and input the new DLI Number, Student ID, and start date. You can then complete the transfer.
Q:   How much TOEFL score I need for Canada?
A:

In Canada, many universities want TOEFL iBT score of 80–100. Some colleges accept lower, but for master's or PhD, score should be higher.
