TU Munich and Life in Germany
Tips: A lot of things change after you step out of your comfort zone, your home. There is definitely a huge cultural shift, unlike India. The food, the weather, the people you meet, the place you live and share and most importantly, the language. Everything here is in German: road signs, grocery, announcements, etc. Knowing a little bit of knowledge in advance helps a lot and makes things easier! I didn't avail myself of any scholarships, as my university didn't charge any fee for the degree; however, DAAD offers information about all the courses, their admission requirements, all universities, as well as the scholarships available and their deadlines. Germany in general loves paperwork, so if you are interested, brace yourself, as you'll need a lot of documentation to apply. I am personally grateful that I chose this university, as it gave a lot of opportunities to work in different settings, from academic labs to company internships to hospital experience. I worked everywhere and also had the freedom to choose what I wanted to study which subjects to take and what to major in for my degree! It was a wholesome experience! I would definitely recommend it!
Likes (Quality of faculty): You can always approach the faculty during the lecture period and also afterwards regarding internship opportunities; however, you have to be aware, as there is a lot of competition. The teaching method that I personally admire is them giving real-time information on the recent research and the work done, rather than a typical syllabus method where interactive learning happens because of the curiosity! They offer some diversity with mostly German teachers along with guest speakers and lecturers from all over the world.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I gave post-study jobs a low rating because even though Germany is supposed to have great career prospects, actually landing a job after graduating is a massive uphill battle. People think having TUM on their resume means companies will just fight over them because of the uni's huge reputation and industry ties, but that’s not how it works at all—you still have to grind incredibly hard. Everything boils down to your German fluency, how much past experience you have, and honestly, how bad the market is at the moment. Most of the roles you end up seeing are things like research assistants, lab scientists, tech assistants, or maybe project coordination if you get lucky. Plus, the starting pay usually hovers around €43k to €55k depending on where you land, which isn't mind-blowing considering how insanely expensive it is to live in Munich while you're hunting for work.

Its a Great University and a great course.
Tips: Must learn German at least B1/2 before coming to Germany in general. Cities are much cleaner and more organized. Prices might look way higher on groceries. Satisfied with everything, but the job market is too bad, and getting a job is extremely hard, so be prepared for this.
Likes (Public transportation): It's great! A 49 euro ticket is enough to travel anywhere inside the state. For students it's a really good travel option. Trains, trams, buses, U-bahns, and S-bahns are available options, and all important places are very well connected with great frequencies of transport.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Food is just a variety of breads here. You really miss Indian food, sweets, and snacks here. I generally cook for myself, as it's way cheaper and tastier. Most of the groceries are available in local markets, but if you need Indian dal and spices, you need to get them from Indian markets, which are a bit farther.

TUM -Every student's dream university
Tips: Honestly, making the move out here was pretty smooth overall, but you definitely need a minute to adjust to the local way of doing things. Getting used to that legendary German punctuality and the incredibly blunt, direct communication style is a real trip at first and takes some serious getting used to. On the financial side, I was lucky enough to snag a merit-based scholarship through my home institution back home, which takes a massive weight off your shoulders. Looking back, I’m seriously happy with choosing the Biology Master's program at the TUM Freising campus. The research opportunities out here are absolutely top-tier, and the whole student environment is incredibly international, so you never feel like the odd one out while you're grinding through your lab work.

Tips: When you first arrive at TUM, you're going to get hit with a ton of things that feel incredibly overwhelming and downright impossible to grasp right away, so you really have to give yourself some grace and keep an open mind. The academic setup here is an entirely different beast compared to what we're used to in the Indian education system—there’s zero rote learning or spoon-feeding. Because this is a top-tier technical university, the entire focus is stripped back to pure research and hardcore technical applications. You’ve got to be prepared to shift your whole mindset from just passing exams to actually understanding how to apply the theory in a lab or a project, otherwise, the fast pace will leave you behind.

Tips: I was awarded the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship and got the information via the internet. I am very much satisfied with the university, but the course could be more in-depth. I have transitioned a lot with the system, day-to-day life, by observing the people and learning from them.
Likes (Student Life): In the morning we would attend the lectures and then mostly chill out or catch up with friends, doing project work or part-time job depending on the schedule. There are a lot of student clubs and communities where people can participate. The course also has a WhatsApp group that organizes a few events.
Dislikes (Internships): You need to find your own internship via applying directly on the company portal. There are a few positions also posted on the university page or via email. Yes, you can get the internship in the field of study. Sometimes it's easy to get the internship if you know German.

Tips: When I started back in 2022, I got super lucky because TUM didn't charge international students tuition fees, but that’s completely changed now. Fulfilling University Experience with Personal Growth
Tips: I have transitioned a lot. I have experienced a huge cultural shift. I have become more disciplined and independent. No, I had no scholarships. I applied on my own through the portals (no agent involved). I am fully satisfied with the educational prospect of my university. It provided me with a lot of internships and practical courses. Germany can make you feel lonely, but then you learn a lot about yourself. Overall, I am happy with whatever this country has offered.
Likes (Indian Food): Now we have 100s of options for Indian food! There is no scarcity of Indian restaurants or Indian grocery stores. In the locality, the food prices range from 15 to 20 euro/meal for one person. Depending on your location you can find all different cuisines but Asian and Turkish are the prominent ones. I prefer eating inside and I like to cook my own food.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Since the job market is currently going through a rough phase (due to the geopolitical situation), securing a full-time job is not an easy task. We do have more than 500 companies offering sponsor visas for work. Research associate—45000-50k/year (gross); technician/lab assistant—38k-42k (gross) per year.

Part-time jobs at TUM/Munich are available but very competitive.
Tips: Students should know TUM is academically demanding and Munich is one of the most expensive cities to live in, so plan their studies and finance well. Transition is quite smooth as German culture is more independent and punctual. I was admitted in the W-2023 intake which led to tuition feels being < 100/semester. Overall, I'm more than satisfied with TUM, my course and Germany.
Likes (Public transportation): TUM is well connected by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, Tram and Bus. Travel is convenient across Munich and Germany. Students get a discounted Deutschlandticket, around 43/month in 2026, making transport affordable. Kudos to Deutsche Bahn or rather Delay Bahn.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part-time jobs at TUM/Munich are available but very competitive. On-campus HiWi roles are limited, require German and off-campus roles are cumbersome. TUM academics are heavily demanding, so work is hard to manage. The average pay is 15/hr.

Tips: The subjects are very flexible and we have the opportunity to tailor make our own curriculum including choosing which subjects and how many subjects we can pick in each semester. Labs, internships and seminar sessions can also be chosen in different schools based on interest
Likes (Public transportation): There are student discounts for all of the tickets we buy for travel. I needed around 200-300 euros per 6 months for buying the ticket for travel in Munich. There is also a day trip ticket, a weekly ticket and hour based tickets, Bayern ticket etc for facilitating travel.
Dislikes (Part time work): German knowledge is a must. It becomes difficult to secure a spot in most part time jobs without that. The part time position can be done up to 20 hours per week and the pay depends on whether it is technical or non technical. Takes a few months to secure a job.

Tips: TUM is a highly demanding academically and the students who want to join needs to keep that in mind. With the new fees it is also competitive and expects students to be proactive. There are many research projects, collaborations, job fairs and events but you must actively seek them out. You also need to improve your networking as you will surely meet international students and they will be your support systems until your collage life. The TUM degree will surely offer excellent resources and career prospects but depends largely your initiative and willingness to learn the language as well as stepping outside your comfort zone
Likes (Public transportation): Public transport is one of the best way to travel to and from the university. As the university is in the middle of the city, there are lot of option for travelling. It is also inexpensive as there is a Germany wide ticket that can be brought at student prices.
Dislikes (Internships): In Germany, universities generally do not provide structured guidance or support for internships, as there are not a mandatory requirement. However, students who are interested in pursuing one must find opportunities independently. For these positions, there are numerous job fairs and similar events that help students connect with potential employers.

Hardships for a better future.
Tips: Cultural shift will be there for food and lifestyle but it's not difficult to get used to that. I did not avail any scholarship but people can apply for that and can get up to 300 euros/month. I'm very satisfied with my university, course and the country definitely.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): For the current regulations of the German government its easier to get permanent immigration because now you have to stay at least 5 years for that including your Master's degree so you can work after your degree for 2 years or 3, then you can apply for citizenship here.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Not all companies will do that, also German language is compulsory for that but you can also learn it within 8 months at least up to B2 levels, Analyst or Research Assistant posts are offered with 2000/ month for my course in Biology but if you go into technical lies that's also possible.

An amazing learning experience.
Tips: There are no on-campus placement opportunities. There are student fairs where various companies come and advertise their job openings, but the onus of securing a job lies solely on the student. Knowing German can definitely help you gain some advantage over non German speaking applicants. The program is rigorous, and you will need to study on your own and not expect to be spoon-fed by teachers. The quality of education is great, one of the best you can get. There were no tuition fees for my course. Knowing the German language wasn't required for my course but it definitely helps in the social atmosphere. Munich is slightly more expensive compared to the rest of Germany when it comes to rent and accommodation but the cost of living here is still reasonable.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is very well managed in Europe. The monthly student pass at 40 euros gives access to public transit throughout germany and so it is very helpful. I did not feel the need for owning a car at any point during my stay; the city is very bike friendly too.

Student life is fun yet stressful.
Tips: There were a lot of shifts in terms of how the classes are organised for example there were no mandatory classes to attend.
I had the DAAD scholarship which was paid as a stipend every month of 500 euros for 9 months.
Although some of the student life were stressful, I was completely prepared for what was to come next in terms of professional life.
Likes (Public transportation): The city is very well connected with the underground metro and fast suburban trains. Trams and buses are also very easily accessible. With a student pass, you can travel on all of them for free of any additional charges. The student pass was around 1.50 euros per semester which was very affordable too.
Dislikes (Student Life): Student life in Germany could be stressful with high deadline pressure and a difficult jump to academics from Indian standards. Events on campus would range from a career fair to social events. I had joined various social events as both participants as well as organize. Clubs range from entrepreneur clubs to photography clubs. The biggest stress of student life was the cost of living crisis in Munich as a city.

Transitioning to TUM involved adapting to a structured German academic culture and a more self-driven learning approach, which was a noticeable but enriching culture shift. I was able to avail a merit-based scholarship (Deutschland Stipendium) during my studies that provided partial financial support toward living expenses. I am very satisfied with the quality of education, the sustainability-focused curriculam, and the academic environement in Germany, despite the relatively high cost of living.
Likes (Public transportation): I rated 5 for Student Life because my experience at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in the M.S. Sustainable Resource Management program is both academically enriching and socially vibrant. A typical day involves lectures on sustainability, environmental economics and resource policy, group projects, and independent research, often combined with study sessions in the library or collaboration spaces. What I enjoy most is the strong balance between theory and real-world application, along with TUM's international and interdisciplinary environment. The campus regularly hosts sustainability workshops, industry talks, hackathons, cultural festivals, and networking events, and I participate quite often, especially in academic and sustainability focused events. The Teaching methodology is unique due to its strong interdisciplinary approach, combining environmental science, economics, policy and practical case studies, often linked to ongoing research projects. Good quality education with lot of job opportunities.
Tips: Indian and German cultures are quite different. But if you are open to meeting new people and learn about different cultures, it becomes easy. Learning German beforehand would also be helpful. I didn't avail any scholarships. Very satisfied in terms of education and living experience. And Germany offers a lot of opportunities for jobs as well which helps students find working student jobs or internships.
Likes (Safety): The city is international and very safe. The people are welcoming as well. Almost everyone speaks English. Very rare cases of racism. The campus is also very safe and in case something happens, the police are also very active or you can reach out to the student committee.
Dislikes (Indian Food): It is difficult to find Indian food options in day to day life in general. There are a lot of Indian restaurants in Munich but they are expensive. It can cost 20-30 for a single person meal. I preferred cooking myself as it is cheap and affordable.

Tips: TUM made me smart and humble at the same time. If you really introspect, very few things you come across in life are capable of doing this. If you are able to get into TUM then by all probabilities you are one of the smartest guys in your previous university. So you might have a bag of ego with you. As soon as you get into TUM you will realize that most people around you are way smarter than you. This makes you humble. Nevertheless you still have to survive the daunting coursework at TUM and this makes you step out of your comfort zone and push your limits. You will realize that your real limits and your perceived limits are actually not the same. As you can imagine, going through this is a priceless experience.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Professors are insanely busy. But still, they did a great job in preparing and delivering quality lectures. But approaching professors after the lectures is not easy unless it has something to do with our dissertation or some potential industrial collaboration. Some units of the departments of professors function like a consultancy where they provide solutions to industries. They do a good job in applying outcomes of academic research to industries.

Best university in a safe town.
Tips: Strong academics in a very safe, quiet town. Students should be ready for a calm lifestyle and be proactive about internships and learning basic German. The transition is smooth with a cultural shift toward punctuality, rules and independence. Scholarships like Deutschlandstipendium (€300/month), merit based scholarships and also need based depending on the semester are available.
Likes (Safety): Well lit streets, reliable public transport, emergency numbers with quick response, student support services, and strict laws ensure safety. TUM also offers student counselling, emergency contacts and accommodation support !! Straubing is a small, quiet Bavarian town with very low crime rates and a strong sense of community. Germany is considered one of the safest countries for students, including international students. The city feels calm, walkable, and safe even late in the night, especially compared to big cities. Wouldn't say bad but an awkward experience is that occasional staring while walking on the road or in a supermarket, but no serious safety concerns or hostile incidents have happened till now.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The program has strong academic and research value, but Straubing has a limited local biotech industry. Graduates usually need to relocate to major hubs (Munich, Berlin, Heidelberg) and competition is high, especially without German language proficiency. Also, Germany has hundreds of biotech & pharma companies that can sponsor visas via the EU Blue Card. Typical roles include Research Associate, Bioprocess Engineer, and QC or Regulatory roles with salaries around €20,000–€50,000/year for MSc graduates.

Likes (Indian Food): Liverpool is a beautiful city and has multiple options for Indian cuisine. I do cook for myself. It's still a struggle if you have to eat outside often; every student must learn how to do simple cooking, or your food expenses will be over budget. So finish some cooking sessions with your family before arriving.
Dislikes (Internships): There was good guidance provided on securing internships and jobs. There is a career service that provides CV checks too and helps you get to your goal. We also have internships on campus that pay you; some are related to your course, and some are generic student ambassador part-time job opportunities.

Tips: If you're heading to the University of London, you need to realize pretty quickly that the academic workload is a massive step up and nobody is going to babysit you. It is heavily research-focused, meaning you are expected to handle a mountain of independent reading and prep every week on your own. If you don't stay disciplined, you will fall behind before you even realize it.
Coming from an Indian classroom setup, the group project dynamics here will probably give you a bit of a shock. You can't just coast along or let one person do all the heavy lifting; the professors and your peers expect everyone to pull their weight equally.
Living in London is a total whirlwind that forces you to grow up overnight. The cultural shift is very real—people here heavily value their personal space, strict punctuality, and direct communication. It takes some serious adjusting, especially navigating a fast-paced, massive city while managing your own budget and time. But honestly, surviving and thriving in this environment completely builds your confidence and changes how you operate both personally and professionally
Likes (Public transportation): I gave it a 5 because getting around Liverpool as a student is honestly incredibly easy and doesn't blow a hole in your budget. You’ve got Arriva and Stagecoach buses constantly running right past the main campus buildings, so whether you're trying to get home to a student house on Smithdown Road late at night or just heading down into the city center, you never have to wait long. Grabbing a student bus pass makes commuting incredibly cheap and if you ever need to travel a bit further out you can just hop on the Merseyrail network or catch a train from Lime Street station. The whole transit system is tight, reliable, and easily one of the best parts about living here—it just completely removes the stress of figuring out how to commute every day.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I gave post-study jobs a 3 because the reality of staying in the UK after graduating rides entirely on finding a company willing to sponsor your visa—and honestly, that pool of employers is shrinking by the day. It has nothing to do with the quality of the degree and everything to do with immigration red tape. While the big players down in London or the NHS do sponsor visas, their hiring bars are insanely high, the selection processes are brutal, and you are competing against thousands of other graduates for a handful of slots.
If you manage to break through, you're looking at a starting salary of around £25k to £35k for an entry-level role, which might bump up to the £45k–£55k range once you get a few years of solid experience under your belt. But the catch—especially for a lot of international grads in tech or finance—is making sure your starting salary even meets the strict new UK visa thresholds. Living up here in Liverpool is great, but the job hunt itself is an absolute mental marathon. You can't just casually apply to random listings; you have to spend hours vetting every single employer to see if they're even on the official home office sponsors list before you even bother updating your CV.

Great University (tough job market)
Tips: Look, Liverpool is great, but you need to be realistic before you pack your bags. Landing a graduate job here is a proper dogfight, and finding a boss who will actually sponsor your visa straight away is damn near impossible. Most of the international crowd just relies on the two-year Graduate Route visa after finishing up, which basically gives you a breathing room to look for roles elsewhere—like moving down to Manchester or London if the Liverpool job market leaves you hanging.
On the bright side, your wallet won't take nearly as much of a beating here. Rent and groceries are ridiculously cheap compared to anything down south, which takes a massive load off your mind. Just make sure you apply for those international merit scholarships the second you get your offer to knock down the tuition costs. And seriously, buy a heavy coat, not an umbrella. The university is right by the Mersey, and that coastal wind is so brutal it will literally snap your brolly in half on the way to lectures.

Tips: Be open to the fact that you might not get a part-time job nearby your campus, and you might have to commute to some place else for it as well. Have a good financial backup before coming to this country and not just with the thought that I'll sort everything once I reach there.
Likes (Indian Food): Multiple Indian-origin restaurants and stalls, as well as shops selling Indian food materials, are available nearby. So making or buying Indian food is not an issue; it's just the spice level that differs. Everything else is pretty much the same as in India.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It's less about the university and more about the country's restrictions. The rules for immigrants and permanent immigration keep on changing here as the power dynamics in this country fluctuate, so be ready and have a mindset to do anything possible with also the option of moving back if needed.

Amazing first time living so far from home. I've made so many international and Indian friends.
Tips: Cultural shift is bound to happen when you travel across continents but every shift isn’t supposed to be bad. There is so much to learn so many people to meet. It sure is scary but nothing comes easy in life unless you have generational wealth. Jokes apart studying abroad in a vibrant city like Liverpool definitely builds character and confidence and prepares you for adult life.
Likes (Student Life): Student life here is actually balanced and great, with tons of part time opportunities especially with the football clubs around. It’s a very fun place to be. I’ve worked part time here for a couple of the biggest companies here like Boots, Sainsbury, LFC and Everton football clubs and it’s truly going to be a part of my life forever that I cherish.
Dislikes (Internships): I haven’t landed one through uni so it’s hard for me to comment on that. There are none through the uni if I’m sure but if you look hard enough there’s plenty out of it. You have to be persistent in your search and be patient even if that seems very hard at times.

Tips: Don't have too many expectations and whatever you are seeing on social media is not going to be the same. This is really going to be tough and most people atleast once, will regret the decision in the initial period. After getting some part time and friends that will be okay, or you will get used to it. So prepare yourself mentally to do everything on your own.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Under current UK rules gaining ILR or permanent settlement is still possible but increasingly challenging. The traditional route allows people on qualifying visas such as skilled worker or family visas to apply after about five years of continuous lawful residence. Tips: The university campus is tremendous. It's beautiful, the quality of teaching is marvellous. The only downside is its difficulty of getting a part-time job. It is not that easy. It's a small city with a limited number of opportunities apart from all these things. I availed 4000 of a scholarship.
Likes (Value for money): The University of Liverpool is part of the Russell Group, so the standard of teaching and faculty is quite high. The living costs in Liverpool is very low compared to London. My tuition fee is around 27,000 per year for the course of M.Sc. Marketing.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are very few food options as an international student and you struggle to find them in a restaurant. The city is not that huge. There are limited options. There are mainly Chinese restaurants. There are Indians in Pakistani restaurants as well, but they also lack the relatively authentic food.

Tips: There was a culture shift that I experienced. The way they talk including their accent, their politeness, was amazing to witness. Likes (Student Life): In my first month of college life, I received a lot of little freebies. Being a student comes with a lot of advantages because you get access to a lot of discounted prices or coupons. All the beauty stores/food restaurants have almost a 10% discount for students. Apart from this, the campus is really big and has 2 libraries. A lot of events are organised in my university which requires student involvement. A lot of career fairs are hosted by my university quite often. There are several student clubs/communities, for instance, banking society, the gym, the swimming club, women in business club, poetry club, theatre club and so on.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It has become very difficult to get an ILR in the UK. Due to the current rules and regulations, getting a job has become a serious issue/challenge. If given a chance, I would not want to permanently immigrate to this country.

There is 24/7 availability of communal resources. You will find Security and Police all over the city to ensure the smooth functioning of events and weekend nights.

Tips: Getting along with the culture of this country was pretty easy if you were open to accepting changes. The university is a very friendly place where everybody is willing to help you at any time. I was offered a 5000-pound scholarship based on my undergrad scores. I love my university, this country and its people. I have never felt like not getting along with the local people here, I have made pretty good friends locally, other than people from my country. The Scouse accent was a bit hard to understand because it's very different from the rest of the accents in England. But I got used to it. Finding part part-time job at university was not easy, and I haven't gotten any opportunities. But the university itself is right in the middle of the city, so you will get other options around if you try.
Likes (Value for money): The university has very good faculty members, great learning outcomes, and you also get plenty of resources to help you study on campus. The classrooms are great, and the labs are well-equipped. The lecturers and tutors are very knowledgeable and helpful. When it comes to infrastructure, it offers a lot of space for students to feel comfortable. There are two libraries where I often spend time reading or studying. There is also a common place called a guild, where you have bars, a cafe and a gaming area, and it is also a place where I choose to spend my time working on assignments and projects. I have never regretted choosing this university or spending this money on it. It is ranked 147th in the world, is in the top 20 universities in the UK. It is also a Russel group university, which is why the fee can be justified.
Dislikes (Internships): Finding internships through the university might not be as easy as we imagine. I would recommend finding internships on your own via LinkedIn and other job platforms. To gain experience, unpaid internships are easier to obtain. It all depends on how consistent you are in applying for jobs and your skills.

As an alumnus, I suggest that you, as a student, prepare for a challenging and fulfilling life at the university where you will be involved in academic activities, sports, student societies, and so much more. I was lucky enough to receive a 2500 GBP scholarship that was a Commonwealth scholarship given to students from Commonwealth countries. I was very satisfied with the university and the great course I took. If you’re an international student, be prepared for an adjustment period, but don’t worry, you’ll get used to things. I recommend that international students not let any doubts about the country deter them from attending.
Likes (Safety): Liverpool is a safe student city. It is safe if the student is within his limits of enjoyment; otherwise, every place has bad incidents going on. Be responsible wherever you go. I have never had a bad experience because I knew what I was doing and was always together with friends. It is safe if you are always in a group and not roaming around late at night alone to explore.
Dislikes (Internships): Internships are easy to get if you have a basic experience of 1- 2 years. There are many number of opportunities for internships in all fields. If applied on the right time and if it aligns with your background you will surely get it. Internships are available in my field, too. Just have to learn to apply sooner and connect with higher level employees on social media like LinkedIn.

The job market is in crisis, and it is difficult for international students because of visa.
Tips: The system is clear and easy. The assignments are given priority and are easy to do as well. Just have to give enough dedicated time and effort to clear the assignments. The exam system is handy as well, and easily scoreable question papers. I had a scholarship of 2500 pounds because India falls under the Commonwealth countries. I'm having a hard time finding an internship. As a Master's graduate, I've been finding it tough because companies provide internships to undergrad students instead of us. The job market is in crisis right now, and we international students are having an even harder time than usual because of Visa problems. Companies aren't ready to sponsor us, no matter what they say.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transport in Liverpool is so easy to use. The buses are cheap, charging only 2 pounds to take you anywhere within the city. Even the trains are cheap. It all adds up to a fast and convenient life here in Liverpool.
