UK Admission Requirements
- For UG courses in the UK, premier universities used to require 13 years of pre-university education. This rule was recently changed and now UK universities recognise CBSE plus two certificates for admission to UG courses.
- In PG courses, you can get admission after finishing a three-year UG degree. To get admission to management courses you will have to appear for the GMAT. For science courses, you may not need to take the GRE exam so check with the university first.
- Similar to the US, you might be required to have a few years of work experience in the case of management courses. TOEFL or IELTS may be waivered by the university but are important for the purpose of getting a visa.

- For UG courses in Australia, almost all universities require 12 years of pre-university education, which makes it easier for Indian students to get admission directly to the course/degree of their choice.

The full-time UK student visa has replaced the Tier 4 (General) student visa. Due to the tightening of visa rules over the last few years, getting a UK student visa is more difficult than before. For this visa, these rules apply -

Australian Student Visa

UK Post-Study Work Permit - Graduate Route Visa
- As of 2026, the Graduate Route allows eligible graduates to stay and work, or look for work, in the UK. Undergraduate and postgraduate Masters graduates can stay for two years, and PhD or doctoral qualification graduates can stay for three years.
- Important change for 2027: For applications made on or after 1 January 2027, permission will be granted for 18 months for undergraduate and masters students. PhD students will continue to be granted permission for 3 years.
- The Graduate Route does not need sponsorship or any endorsement by an employer or by your institution. You can work at any skill level, switch jobs, and develop your career as you wish - including self-employment - except working as a professional sportsperson or coach.
- You can only apply for the Graduate visa from within the UK, before your current Student visa expires. It is only possible to be granted permission under the Graduate Route once as the visa is non-renewable.
- From the Graduate Route, you would be able to switch to a Skilled Worker visa from within the UK if you are offered a suitable job with an employer who holds a sponsor licence.
Australia Post-Study Work Permit - Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa
