However, rest assured, the OET test has been created to test your understanding of the English language in a healthcare setting and not to make you miserable. The tests are created keeping in mind the healthcare professional and a good preparation plan would yield positive results. Ultimately everything depends on the applicant's preparation for the exam and practice.

A:

The OET is designed for 12 specific healthcare professions and candidates belonging to a similar discipline are advised to take the exam. As part of the OET Exam Pattern, the exam requires candidates to solve healthcare scenarios during the English and Communication Skills tests. Thus, OET exam is profession specific, however exams like the TOEFL or IELTS or even Duolingo and PTE are not profession specific, they can be taken by anyone who are applying for admissions abroad at UG or PG or even Doctoral level. These exams are referred to as ELP or English Language Proficiency exams and are also for the purpose of submission for visa applications.

Q:   What countries recognize OET as proof of English Language Proficiency?

A:

OET is recognised as proof of English Language proficiency by health regulators across Australia, Canada, Ireland, Maldives, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America. Applicants applying for healthcazre programs have to appear for the OET exam and submit their scores. Only if the applicants qualiy based on the given cut-off can go for an admission and if they do not qualify, they will not be offered admission. Thus, applicants should be able to crack the exam and qualify for the proposed cut off and then go for admissions if all other details match.

OET Exam FAQs

What is a good OET score?

OET does not have a good score benchmark. However, candidates are expected to comfortably get well over the 350 mark in each sub-test to be eligible for the best opportunities. Candidates are always advised to check with the significant council or board to stay up-to-date with the current demand of the market. This is so because, in the end, it is the governing authority of your profession which will ascertain the kind of results required. Each profession may have different English language requirements.

Till when is OET Score valid?

The OET official website does not provide a duration for the validity of the OET exam. Candidates are required to check with the concerned authorities (e.g. boards and councils, government departments) that recognize the OET exam about the duration of the validity of the results. Authorities vary on the basis of countries and professions. For example, in the United Kingdom, the Nursing and Midwifery Council govern the nurses, whereas those in New Zealand are governed by the Nursing Council of New Zealand.

How many times can I attempt the OET Exam?

The OET test can be attempted as many times as the candidate wants to improve his score. The OET test is held twice in a given month.

What documents do candidates need to carry to the exam centre on the day of the exam?

Candidates are advised to take their valid passports as IDs for the exam. National ID and Aadhar Card are also acceptable on request and candidates are required to fill out a form during the time of registration.

What is the application procedure for OET?

Healthcare aspirants looking to appear for their OET are required to register for the exam via the online method only.
