Candidates willing to take TOEFL exam in 2026 should aware of these pattern changes. The old TOEFL test had a score out of 120, but the new TOEFL 2026 uses a scale of 1 to 6. Q&A Icon
Commonly asked questions
Q:   How can I pass TOEFL successfully?
A:

There is no such thing as failing or passing the TOEFL exam. Every university would have its own TOEFL Score cut-off and students are required to achieve scores equal or higher than the set grade. Candidates should note that higher TOEFL scores would automatically increase their chances of securing a seat in the university and also make them a front runner for any scholarships being offered by the university. A low TOEFL score would require the student to re-take the exam to improve his/her performance.

Q:   Will universities accept the new TOEFL score system?
A:

Yes, the new TOEFL scoring system from 1 to 6 will be accepted by universities and colleges around the world. It follows the CEFR scale, which many schools already use. For 2 years, students will also get the old 0–120 score along with the new one.

Q:   Where can I get TOEFL practise papers?
A:

Candidates are advised to source their study material from the official ETS website for authentic and up-to-date information and they can also solve practice papers that we have on our website here: TOEFL Sample Papers.

How to Prepare for TOEFL?

There are two main ways to prepare for the TOEFL exam: self-study and coaching classes. Both options have their own benefits, and the right choice depends on your learning style, budget, and preparation level. If cost is a concern, self-study for TOEFL using books and official resources can be a good option. The Educational Testing Service (ETS) offers a wide range of TOEFL study material, including free practice tests, sample questions, beginner guides, and paid resources on its official website.

On the other hand, if you need structured guidance and expert feedback, joining a TOEFL coaching centre can help improve your performance. Coaching classes provide personalized strategies, doubt-solving sessions, and regular mock tests, which are useful for many students.

The TOEFL iBT exam evaluates your English proficiency at the university level through four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. While preparing, candidates should clearly understand the TOEFL exam pattern, scoring system, and result timeline. Using official resources from ETS along with regular practice can significantly improve your overall score.

Hello Nikhil. Hope you are doing well. I seem to have overlooked your comment and my apologies for the same. I am guessing you have got your results by now. Reading the question out loud should not ideally affect your TOEFL test scores.
