There is a difference between getting hired for a full-time dream job after completing your studies and working part-time to support your living while you are studying. When it comes to looking for a full-time job while you have completed your international programme, you would definitely want to experience the foreign industry. To be eligible for working after your graduation, you must apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. An interesting fact about studying abroad is that international students can support their daily expenses with the help of part-time jobs.

  • On-Campus Work

You can work on-campus at the university from where you are obtaining higher studies. You are allowed to work based on your eligibility conditions and you can work 20 hours a week during your studies and full time during vacations. "On-campus" employment is defined as employment in facilities owned, leased, or rented by the educational institution.

  • Off-Campus Work

In order to work off-campus while studying, international students should have a valid off-campus work-permit. To be eligible for off-campus, you should be a full-time student at a publicly-funded post-secondary institution or a private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees.

Co-op and Internships

Finding an internship in your domain is an essential step toward accomplishing your career goals. It is always a good idea to experience the industry while you are pursuing a dedicated course that too on the international front. Gaining industrial exposure helps you get an insight into the industry and understand the scope of the chosen course.

While studying in Canada, there are some courses in which employment is an essential part of the course. There are few courses offered that require professional experience to graduate and they will be given their degree only after showing the relevant work experience, either on-campus or off-campus. The internship or co-op work cannot form more than 50% of the total program of study.
