Is studying at TU Dresden really free for Indian Students?

Yes, TU Dresden (Technical University of Dresden) charges zero tuition fees for all students, including Indian students, across most of its undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. However, students have to pay a mandatory semester fee of around EUR 270 per term. This fee is inclusive of the public transport ticket.

However, as per Article 13 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, some students might have to pay extra fees or tuition fees in certain conditions. We will discuss all such conditions in the upcoming sections.

On Which Courses Do the Extra Fees Apply at TU Dresden?

Under Article 13 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, Indian students will also be required to pay an extra fee under certain conditions. These conditions and the amount of fees that students will have to pay at TU Dresden are given below.

  1. If the students are taking a distance learning course, they will have to pay a fee of EUR 100 per semester.

  2. If the students are taking a second degree, given that they’ve completed their previous degree and its time has already been exceeded from the standard 6 semesters’ time limit. In such a case, students will have to pay an extra amount of EUR 350.

  3. If students exceed the regular duration of the course they’re studying at present by at least 4 semesters, such a case is identified as “long-term studying”, and in that case, they will have to pay extra fees of around EUR 500 per semester.

Q:   Is TU Dresden difficult to get into?
A:

Getting into TU Dresden is moderately competitive rather than strictly difficult for Indian students. Q:   Are INR 20 L enough to study in Germany for Indian students?
A:

Yes. For a tuition-free public university in an affordable German city - INR 20 Lakhs is generally sufficient to comfortably cover your first year of living expenses and setup costs. A:

Yes. TU Dresden charges zero tuition for standard, consecutive master's courses for Indian and international students. However, students must pay a mandatory semester contribution of roughly €270 to €300 per term, which typically covers regional public transit and administrative services.
