What is PTE English Express Exam?

PTE Express is an English proficiency exam that conveys your proficiency in English to universities and colleges in the USA correctly. Hence, by means of PTE Express, Indian students can go on to study in USA by taking an exam which offers greater accessibility than any other exam.

The PTE English Express Exam assesses your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English by means of 12 different tasks like writing an email and repeating sentences. The exam is shorter - and lasts only 1 hour. 

You can take this exams anytime and anywhere - be it from the comfort of your home. You just need to stay alone in the room for the entire 1 hour duration of the exam and must not interact with anyone during this period. 

Test takers do not need to keep on witing for their results and feedback on their answers as they get an uncertified score within a few minutes after taking the exam.

How to Take the PTE Express Test?

To take the test, test takers need to follow just a few simple steps. These are as follows -

1. Sign up on - https://pteexpress.pearson.com/ENG/join
2. Download the official application for PTE Express on your computer
3. Practice from the free practice tests that include all of the questions that you can expect in your main exam
4. When ready, book your exam slot by paying $70
5. Take the test, and get your uncertified scores in a few minutes and a certified result within 48 hours after taking the test

PTE Express Exam Fee for Indian Students 2026-27

Unlike the other variants of the PTE Exam, the PTE Express Exam fee is the same for all. No matter where you live or which country you belong to, the PTE Express Exam Fee remains USD $70 for everyone. This fee is inclusive of the whole test experience including your test report. Payment can be made either by your debit/credit card, digital payment methods like Apply Pay or Google Pay or voucher payments. 

Important Note:- If you are booking single or multiple tests in advance, then, once purchased, the test(s) you booked remain valid for a period of 90 days; after which they go invalid and cannot be taken. Hence, remember to take your exam in due time. 

What to Expect on PTE Express Exam Day?

To take the test, you will have to build up a quick setup for your exam - a locked room with no external noise and complete isolation with a laptop/computer and a mobile phone for secondary camera support. Note that your each and every activity will be monitored throughout the test, basis on which,you may be liable for strict actions if any malpractice is observed during the test. Here’s what all you need to establish a setup for your test at your home or any other place of convenience -

1. A computer or a laptop and a mobile phone. Note that no extra headphones, mic or other electronic gadgets are allowed
2. A govt-issued ID
3. A stable internet connection

You will be guided thorughout the setup process.

As you start the test, you will be monitored by a combination of AI and human reviewer. After the test completes, the human experts from Pearson review the whole test session to check for any discrepancy or malpractice.

Types of Acceptable IDs

A government-issued photo ID that is not be torn, faded or altered in any way is required on the exam day.  Here is the list of all the forms of accepted IDs -

1. A valid passport
2. National, State or Provincial ID card
3. Driver’s License
4. Alien Registration Card or the Green Card/Permanent Residence Permit Card 

How Many Times Can I Take the PTE Express Test?

The test takers can take the PTE Express Test for up to 3 times in a 30 days period (rolling 30 days period and not calendarical 30 days window). It must be noted that test takers can book a new test appointment only after receiving certified scores from the previous attempt.
