When do PTE Scores get Calculated?

The PTE Academic is one such exam that relies entirely on automated AI-based scoring - except for a few tasks for which human intervention/double-checking has been introduced recently - for tasks that the AI cannot solely assess, such as the writing tasks or in the scoring of the anomalies. The automated AI scoring makes PTE one of the fastest English tests in the world.

The AI system of Pearson operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, processing results continuously without waiting for business hours. As a result, your PTE score calculation begins automatically as soon as you finish your test. And because scoring is AI-driven, results are not dependent on examiner availability, public holidays in the UK (where Pearson is headquartered), or time-zone differences. Your PTE score can arrive on a Saturday night in India just as easily as on a Tuesday morning.

Before proceeding further, let’s understand more about PTE’s scoring system below.

How are PTE Scores Calculated?

There are two ways the PTE exam scores get calculated - by an automated AI algorithm and by human experts (reviewing only a few tasks).

How Pearson’s AI-scoring Engine Works?

The vast majority of PTE responses - including multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, highlight correct summary, and other objective-format tasks - are scored entirely by Pearson's automated system.

How trustworthy is Pearson PTE’s AI Scoring System?

Pearson’s AI system is trained and refined by millions of real-world data points and hundreds of human examiners. Not just that, in a single update cycle in 2020, Pearson fed more than 678,000 human examiner responses into the algorithm to train it.

How Human+AI Review Works in PTE Scoring?

Some of the open-ended spoken responses and written tasks such as Describe Image, Retell Lecture, Summarise Written Text and Write Essays, are scored by a combination of AI and human expert reviewers.

Note:- Before any score is released, Pearson's biometric security system confirms that the person who sat the exam matches the registered identity. This is a mandatory step that ensures the integrity of every result.

  1. Go to the official Pearson PTE Website: Visit pearsonpte.com and click "Sign In" at the top right corner.

  2. Log In with your registered credentials - Use the exact same email address and password you used when booking your PTE test.

  3. Once logged in, go to "My Activity" or click on "View Score Reports" from your dashboard.

  4. Access your most recent PTE test - Select your most recent test session to open the results page.

  5. View and download your PTE Score Report containing -

    1. Your overall score on a 10-90 scale

    2. Your individual communicative skill scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking)

    3. Your Skills Profile

Critical Note for Indian Students: While you can download a PDF of your score report for your own reference, universities, colleges, and visa authorities do NOT accept PDF or printed copies. Scores must always be sent electronically through the official Pearson myPTE portal.

How to Send Your PTE Scores to Universities or Visa Authorities?

Sharing your PTE scores with universities and visa officers to study abroad for Indian students is quite easy. The first thing that Indian students must note is that sharing the PTE results is completely free of charge - irrespective of the number of universities you choose to share your results with.

Here is a guide to sharing your PTE scores with universities and visa authorities abroad -

  • Log in to your myPTE account at pearsonpte.com

  • Go to "My Activity" → "View Score Reports"

  • Click "Send Scores" next to the relevant test result

  • Type the name of your target university, institution or visa authorities in the search bar

    1. Select the correct institution (verify the campus and program type). You can select up to 7 institutions at a time.

    2. For visa authorities, example - Australia, in the field marked “Institution / Organisation / Department / School”, type Department of Home Affairs. Then select “Department of Home Affairs - Australian Government Department of Home Affairs” from the search results.

  • Review your selection and click "Next" → "Next" again to confirm

  • You will receive a confirmation email once scores are dispatched

After you click to share your PTE scores, your universities will receive them within 48 hours. In some cases, delivery may take up to a week, so plan well ahead of application deadlines.

Common Reasons for PTE Score Delays

While most scores arrive within 48 hours, a small number of test-takers experience delays. Here are the most common reasons for delay in the delivery of PTE scores:

  1. Duplicate or Multiple Pearson Accounts Found: If you accidentally created more than one Pearson VUE or myPTE account at any point, the system flags this for manual identity verification, which can significantly extend processing time.

  2. Biometric or Security Flags: Pearson's system may flag a result if there is any inconsistency between the biometric data recorded during the test and your registered identity. Thus as a result, an investigation is triggered before the score can be released.

  3. Audio Quality Issues in the Speaking Section: If your spoken responses contain unclear audio - due to microphone issues, background noise, or low volume - the system may route your Speaking section for human review which may or may not exceed the maximum standard window.

  4. AI Certainty Review: Even without any security concern, Pearson's AI may sometimes flag a response for additional review simply because it wants to ensure accuracy. Since PTE scores are used for major immigration and education decisions, Pearson prioritises getting the score right.

What to do If your PTE Score Is delayed:

Here is the recommended set of actions that test takers must practice while waiting for their exam results. 👇

What to do If your PTE Academic Score Is delayed

Timeframe after taking test

Recommended Action

Within 48 hours

Wait patiently; check email from Pearson in your spam/junk folder

48 hours to 5 days

Log in to myPTE to check status and also check your spam folder

Beyond 5 business days

Contact Pearson Customer Support

Note for checking your status in myPTE:  if you are test shows as “Taken - Pending" or "On Hold", your result is still being processed. This is normal. Do not panic or create a new account.

How can You Avoid PTE Score Delays? Tips

You must adhere to the below given precautionary steps to avoid getting your PTE scores delayed:

  1. Use only 1 Pearson account. Delete any other account that you may have created earlier

  2. Ensure your test registration details match your passport exactly.

  3. Test your microphone before the day of exam

  4. Do not pause excessively or disconnect during the test without a valid reason

  5. Add pearsonpte.com to your email safe sender's list so that the score notification email does not land in your spam or junk folder.

  6. Check your myPTE account directly, even before the email arrives - many test-takers find their scores are visible in the portal before they receive the email notification.

What is PTE Score Validity for Indian Students to Study Abroad in 2026-27?

The standard validity of the PTE scores is 2 years from the date of taking the test. After the two-year period, your scores are automatically removed from the myPTE portal and cannot be accessed or shared.

Exception/Special Case: For Australian PR and skilled migration purposes, the PTE exam scores remain valid for 3 years from the date of the test. This extended validity applies specifically to immigration use under the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). So, even though the PDF of your score report shows a 2-year validity date, the 3-year window for Australian PR is recognised by the DHA. Do not be confused by the dates on your physical report.

This was all about the timeline of getting your PTE scores. If nothing goes wrong, you will definitely receive your PTE scores in time, within the standard 2 days.
