Cambridge trust scholarship: All you need to know
The University of Cambridge has founded the Cambridge Commonwealth, European and International Trust to support international students who wish to study in there. Their aim is to make Cambridge education accessible to all the students irrespective of their social and economic backgrounds. The trust offers numerous scholarships under various schemes so that candidates even from outside UK can pursue degree courses at all levels of study. The trust offers around 500 scholarships every year and supports approximately 1100-1400 students from 85 countries. The awards include both full-cos and part-cost scholarships that are offered to students for pursuing undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. in all subjects and all 31 colleges under the University of Cambridge. In this article, we will inform you everything about the Cambridge Trust Scholarship from eligibility to the application process.
All the scholarships offered by the trust are applicable for studying at Cambridge. Candidates are required to apply to the University through the normal online application form, and before the deadline of the respective scholarships. The trust does not offer numerous scholarships to students going to pursue undergraduate courses, whereas it has many scholarship programmes for postgraduate students. Almost 85% of the scholarships are awarded to students pursuing master's or Ph.D. level courses.
The main criteria for selecting the Scholars will be the applicant's ability to meet the selection criteria set by the trust. Few scholarships that are partly or fully funded by the partners are allotted to students studying specific subjects and belonging to particular countries.

Application and admission
Candidates must have got an admit to the University of Cambridge through the usual application process. After meeting all the criteria set by the university, when candidates receive an admit, they can apply for the scholarship. This way trust will also issue the scholarships to candidates who have already secured their place in the university rather than offering it to students who won't be getting admission. There are different application procedures for undergraduate and postgraduate study.
Undergraduate applicants
Cambridge offers a small programme of scholarships for undergraduate students. Most of the scholarships offered by the trust are part-cost awards that will pay only part of the cost of studying at Cambridge.
Application process for undergraduate students
Candidates going to study undergraduate degree should complete and submit a UCAS application before the deadline (15th-Oct-2020). In order to apply for funding from the Cambridge Trust, candidates need to have an offer from Cambridge. Once candidates have an offer of admission to a Cambridge college they will be invited by the college to complete an application for the Trust to be considered for financial aid. Candidates need not apply directly to the Cambridge Trust as Trust only considers candidates that are recommended by their respective colleges.
Candidates will be informed in the month of March/April whether they will be getting a scholarship or not.
Postgraduate applicants
The Cambridge Trust is a major source to fund scholars at Cambridge and offers various scholarships to postgraduate students. Those applying for graduate studies can apply for the funding deadline specific to their course. There are two general course deadlines 3rd-Dec-2020 and 7th-Jan-2021.
Most scholarships are awarded on the basis of:
- Significant academic achievement and potential of the candidate
- Financial need of the candidates (some scholarships are also offered on the basis of academic achievements alone)
The Cambridge trust does not provide full-cost scholarships for MFin or MBA programmes. MFin and MBA students who are nominated by the trust's funding partners are considered for co-funding.
Candidates need not apply for the scholarship directly as an application for funding can be made as part of their application for admission to the university. Candidates must complete the funding section of the online application form through the applicant portal. They need to submit the details about the scholarship that they wish to apply to.
