Independence with a caviat
Tips: There was definitely a cultural shift — it’s a lot calmer, and less community-heavy. You’ll feel free but, at first, lonely. I got a scholarship through the Sydney Scholars program, so I almost didn't have to pay any tuition fees. This was based on academics as well as some essays. I was pretty happy with my experience, but I’ve heard mixed reviews from my peers!

It’s all on you, how you build it from there
Tips: It's great, but it all depends on how you want to build your experience. No one will push you to do anything, so it's up to you to shape your experience and get the most out of all the resources the university provides. To make the most of it, I believe you should talk to seniors and people who have done things in your field.
Likes (Public transportation): Accessibility to the university is superb since one can travel to and from it using trains, buses, and trams. In addition, since it is located close to the city, it allows for easy access. It is good to be close to the university to fully take advantage of its activities.
Dislikes (Value for money): In terms of studies only, I feel the tuition fee is not justifiable. In terms of the experience, including part-time work and internships, and its worth it then. It doesn't make sense to just come thinking of studying as now, with ai u can even explore that on your end.

A prestigious and academically strong university with great exposure
Tips: Students should know that USYD is academically demanding and expect consistent effort, independent learning, and good time management. Moving to Sydney was a massive mix of excitement and pure chaos. The study culture here was a total shock to the system at first—you're suddenly forced to do a ton of independent learning, endless group projects, and actually speak up constantly in class. On top of that, navigating the day-to-day cultural shift was pretty overwhelming. You have to get used to a completely different communication style, adapt to the local lifestyle, and somehow figure out how to manage your own budget when the city is notoriously expensive. I availed a 20% scholarship, but still I had to plan my finances carefully. Overall, I am satisfied with the university, course and country because the experience has helped me grow academically, professionally and personally.
Likes (Safety): I rated 5 for safety because I felt the campus and surrounding areas were generally secure, organized and student-friendly. Apart from campus security, USYD provides services such as emergency support, safety alerts, the SafeZone app, counseling/reporting support, and security assistance when required. Sydney is mostly safe and welcoming, though the city can feel expensive and crowded at times, especially around peak transport hours.
Dislikes (Value for money): I rated 3 for value for money because the University of Sydney offers strong academic quality, global reputation, experienced faculty, and good career exposure, but the tuition fee is quite high for international students. The fee feels partly justified because of the university brand value, resources, industry connections, and quality of teaching, but the overall cost becomes heavy when accommodation and living expenses in Sydney are added.

A Truly Global Learning Experience
Tips: Transition is easy if one moves consciously and does detailed research. Yes, I got a $10K scholarship. It's mostly based on your profile and experience, but there was one student who got a 50% scholarship as an underprivileged quota. The best country to come and study and migrate to if someone has long-term goals/plans.
Likes (Internships): Ample internship opportunities with world-leading organizations and career teams support building up a great network. The career team takes great initiative to conduct regular talks and events and invite alumni and leaders from leading companies to share experiences and conduct networking events.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Unless one picks another course to complete 2 years of study, since this is an 18-month course, one will not be eligible for a TR Visa. PR is point-based, or, if sponsored by an employer, the chances are 1 in thousands.
It's one of the most difficult countries to get PR, so be mindful of that and do proper research.

A Supportive and Easygoing Study Experience
Tips: Honestly, moving here was a breeze. Zero culture shock whatsoever—everyone’s just super welcoming and down to help if you need anything.
But look, if you’re coming to this college, you gotta realize quickly that nobody is going to hold your hand. You have to be completely independent from day one. Balancing classes, hunting for part-time gigs, networking—literally all of it comes down to your own hustle. The uni just hands you the bare basics, but you're the one who actually has to go out there and make things happen. It takes a second to adapt to the new teaching style and the lifestyle shift, but the overall vibe here makes settling in pretty painless.
I didn't get any financial aid or scholarships, so I’m clueless on how that side of things works. Definitely dig through their site before you apply though, just to see if you can snag some merit-based funding. At the end of the day, I’m glad I made the move. The course is solid, life is easygoing, and it's been a great experience all around.
Likes (Safety): I gave safety a full 5/5 because both the campus and the city itself feel incredibly secure and well-run. It's not just about having security guards around—there are cameras everywhere, emergency call boxes, and the streets and public spaces are really well-lit at night. Plus, the public transport is reliable, and they even have things like late-night shuttle services or campus escorts if you're stuck studying late.
Honestly, my experience here has been great. Even when I’m heading home late or jumping on a bus in the middle of the night, I’ve never felt unsafe or sketched out. The whole vibe is just super orderly, and people generally mind their own business and show respect. I haven't run into a single sketchy situation since I got here which is why I didn't hesitate to give it a top rating.
Dislikes (Internships): I only gave it a 2/5 because trying to lock down an internship here is a massive uphill battle, especially if you're on an international student visa. The university basically leaves you to fend for yourself—there's virtually zero direct help or clear pathways to actually get you in front of companies. You're pretty much forced to just grind on LinkedIn and Seek, hit up networking events, and blindly apply on your own without any real backing from the uni.
While some of the roles out there actually fit my major, the competition is just insane. Most employers won't even look at your resume unless you already have local experience or a visa with zero work restrictions. The whole hunting process is honestly just a exhausting, time-consuming grind that leaves most students feeling completely burnt out.

My college offers a lot of career learnings.
Tips: You will experience homesickness initially and feel overwhelmed due to the sudden transition. But keep on doing, and slowly you will learn everything. People are quite supportive, but be aware of scammers in terms of renting, especially while booking from offshore.
Likes (Student Life): Student life here is full of ventures and enjoyment, but on the other hand, consistency and hard work are a must to sustain it, and one needs to study with focus. But balancing this all at the same time is quite fun. The university organizes a lot of educational and career events to help students.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): I went with this rating mostly because trying to get a PR here is turning into a massive headache with the immigration laws constantly shifting. Honestly, the requirements are getting tougher by the day. I’d say the whole situation is pretty up in the air, since it really comes down to whether you can actually score a job that sponsors you and if you even qualify for the right visa.

Life in the Land down Under
Tips: The only major cultural shock for me was the magnitude of the Asian crowd in my course. This is mainly because Sydney is the biggest hub, and my course was more quant-based, so predominantly Asian and Indian crowd—I received a 20% scholarship on my tuition fee. The campus is beautiful, and the Business School is world-class. The course is also good, but I would recommend keeping in touch with the university counselor to make the most of it.
Likes (Indian Food): Several general stores are available that sell desi food. Fresh dairy products, lentils, and packaged food are all available at a marked-up price. - Many Indian and Nepalese restaurants are in all the suburbs, which makes it easy to access Indian food. - I prefer cooking for myself since it's significantly cheaper and everything is available in stores.
Dislikes (Value for money): Living expenses in Sydney are very high (rent, groceries, public transportation). USYD is one of the most expensive in Australia already, and everyday costs add up big time—strive for higher scholarships, as many options are available. Since the campus is located towards the city center, looking for accommodation close by can be very heavy on the pockets—a very high volume of international students crowd, making it tougher to find rentals and jobs in the vicinity.

Great academics and lifestyle, but tough job market.
Tips: Students should come prepared for an academically rigorous environment and a highly competitive job market. The transition was smooth socially, but culturally, there is a shift in independence, self management and communication style. No scholarship in my case, so financial planning is very important. I would not suggest going there with debt, considering the volatile situations around the world currently. I am satisfied with the university's academic quality, exposure, and global perspective. Though job opportunities require effort and patience.
Likes (Safety): Sydney is, in general, a safe and student friendly place. Strong lawns, emergency help points, late night transport monitoring, safety apps and responsive local police. In my experience, people are cooperative and respectful, which makes daily life comfortable for students. Campus security is great, free access to third party tracking and security apps, cooperative police and local citizens gives a sense of assurance and comfort.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The current market is difficult in Australia. The first preference is given to the citizens and permanent residents. Finding a company that gives you a job before TR adds an extra layer of complexity. There are opportunities, but they require persistence, networking and stronger skills.

Tips: I have settled in quite well after reaching Sydney. Life has been good and I am comfortable. There were definitely some shifts when it comes to the lifestyle and culture but observation and adaptability helped me navigate through. I did receive one scholarship which is the Sydney India Scholars Scholarship. I applied for it through my educational agent, which was a waiver of 20 percent on the tuition fee. When it comes to the University, I feel it has everything which anyone would be after, but the course lacks a certain level of practicality and would be better if there was that thing included. Australia is an amazing place to be in and anyone would love it here.

A supportive and opportunity filled university experience.
Tips: Be proactive and manage your time well. You get a lot of freedom, and success depends on how you use it. It was challenging due to independent learning, but the diverse environment made it easier to adapt. I got a merit based scholarship with partial tuition fee education. I am very satisfied with the course quality and academics.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are millions of events going on throughout the semester, from networking events to events just for fun and playing games. It truly fosters a vibrant life and things are quite easy going here. The student life is very inclusive and inclusivity is very easy considering you are getting involved in all the possible events.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): Most of the faculty members are heavily experienced and are extremely qualified. They are well aware of the current world scenario and tutors are also solid and have amazing conceptual clarity. Lecture class sizes are big but if someone is active, personal guidance can also be provided.

Tips: Before joining University of Sydney, students should expect rigorous academics, independence and high living costs. Transition after coming here was smooth and the culture here is pretty laid back. There are certain competitive scholarships available that cover full tuition. I'm satisfied with my experience.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is well connected especially in the main city. You can find buses every other street and trains in almost every suburbs which makes it very easy to navigate throughout the city. Public transport fares are also good.

Tips: If there is one thing incoming students should know, it is that they shouldn't worry too much about a 'culture shock'. My transition here was surprisingly smooth because there are so many students from similar cultural backgrounds. The community is diverse and welcoming so you will likely find your footing very quickly. Regarding scholarships, I received a 20% scholarship on my tuition fees, which is actually something most international students here are eligible for. Reflection on my first year coming to a close, I am genuinely satisfied with my decision to choose the university and course. Everything has met or exceeded my expectations.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Though the public transportation within the city is great and is well connected, including trams, buses, trains and a metro. The public transport is more expensive (adult card) for international students than domestic as the concession card (cheaper travel card for students) for public transport only applies to full time tertiary students and Australian citizens or permanent residents. The transport is convenient and kept clean.

Tips: There was a lot of cultural shift but there are mostly Chinese students around you and they won't talk to you unless they absolutely have to. International student scholarship from USYD. The problem is getting an internship.
Likes (Indian Food): On an average, you can get basic food at 20-25 dollars per person in a restaurant, which is considered cheap and Indian restaurants are good over here. You get every type of cuisine. For a fancy restaurant you have to pay anywhere between 40-50 dollars. And EatClub is quite helpful.
Dislikes (Safety): Campus security is good, it's not an issue. The issue is outside campus, there are so many druggies over here on every street and at night, people usually sleep in residential areas, so it is extremely quiet, which makes the night unsafe.

Tips: There was definitely a cultural shift adjusting to independent living, a new teaching style, and a more diverse community. Over time, I've become much more adaptable, confident and communicative. I am happy with my experience and growth here, studying in Australia has been an enriching cultural and a great learning experience so far.
Likes (Part time work): There are opportunities both on and off-campus. On campus roels include tutoring, student services, libraries and volunteering in the student union; while off camous there are plenty in retail, hospitality and customer service. Most students can easily manage part-time work with academics if they plan and divided their time well- working about 15-20 hours a week. The average payour range from AUD 25-32 per hour for my age group.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent settlement is not straightforward for international students, as visa pathways are competitive and depend on skilled occupation list. My chances of setting here are moderate, with the right work experience and sponsorship in economics or data roles its possible but not guaranteed. I'm not sure about setting here considering my personal aspirations, but I value Australia's lifestyle and opportunities and would totally recommend setting here for other students.

Not worth the time and money.
Tips: After my transition here, it was easy for me to feel at home because I stayed with my cousin. They gave me a 20% scholarship, which saved me money on tuition, but it's still expensive. Luckily, the scholarship application was easy to fill out, and there were only three questions. Australia is a great place to live, and the cost of living is okay, but it's tough to find a job, and the competition is fierce. I’m still looking.
Likes (Indian Food): There are so many restaurants here offering every imaginable cuisine. I can find something I like from Indian, Sri Lankan, Malaysian, Thai, Lebanese, Turkish, British, Italian, and French restaurants, and you can find some at reasonable prices. There are also lots of deals available through apps like Eat Club. I find I can mostly eat out, but not all the time, because some places are way too expensive.
Dislikes (Value for money): For international students, the tuition fee is way too much compared to domestic students. Examination guidelines for the majority of the courses are the same as the Indian system - close book exams on pen and paper - not much practical exposure that I expected - so I won't say it's value for money. You end up spending 90,000 -100,000 AUD for the fees and end up getting an average pay of 70,000 - 80,000 AUD, so no ROI as well.

Fun, stressful, relevant yet rewarding.
Tips: Know your course before you come. It would be a lot helpful if you're well aware of what you wish to do. I personally was very confused and had to change majors a couple of times, which is also an advantage because of flexibility, but this usually wastes a couple of elective spaces, so knowing what you want to study might streamline your academic needs and help you perform better. I was offered an International student award of 30% for all 4 years and a Vice Chancellor Scholarship of around 10,000 AUD for the first year only.
Likes (Part time work): Both on-campus and off-campus jobs are available. Initially, on-campus jobs would be tough as they require a fair bit of experience, but off-campus is a good start. The working rights are only 48 hours fortnightly, so it is approximately 24 hours a week, pretty manageable for me as a full-time student. The average pay varies from age to age. But most initial offers would start from 23-26 dollars an hour.
Dislikes (Internships): Though the careers centre at the University of Sydney does offer help and guidance with internships, most companies prefer domestic students for internships with unlimited working rights. However, if an individual is determined enough to get one, there are many pathways to it- it just needs to be explore.

Tips: There aren’t many Indian food joints that are good. It’s better to cook Indian food at home. Sometimes Indian restaurants provide you with very bad quality because, for obvious reasons, you can’t replicate the food you eat here in Sydney and the food you get at home. The faculty is extremely diverse in terms of nationality and very helpful with everything. Even if you don’t understand things in classes, they take the initiative to meet you separately and guide you appropriately. You can also schedule several meetings regarding your future at the university. If you aren’t 100% sure about going abroad and investing so much money in it, then don’t do it. It takes a lot out of you emotionally and physically, might not even be what it’s like in movies. But if you really know you can do this, then go for it because it’s definitely worth it.

The faculty is very knowledgeable, approachable and supportive.
Tips: Students should make sure they are choosing the right course. They should make sure they have a proper career path in mind and know what they want to do in the future. It's very expensive to change course later on, and almost impossible to complete a different course within the given time. Faculty are highly specialised, with the majority having Ph.D.s. The teaching is research-oriented and application-based. This includes practical learning, case studies, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The faculty is also quite diverse, bringing a global perspective to the student learning experience. The teaching method is highly effective and collaborative. The only downside to the area is the insanely high rents in the city. I really enjoyed my time studying at the University of Sydney.

The experience has been decent & not exactly worth the money you pay.
Tips: The university isn't very safe (the stabbings and phone snatchers are real); please be aware. Never travel alone at night, especially. Always carry some sort of protection (pepper spray, etc.). Never be too distracted at weird new places (take the usual routes). Overall accommodations are nice but expensive, & the cheap ones will come free with silverfish & rates for real: //If you want student club surroundings, allow Field Campus (the best accommodation is Unsworth Park; the worst is Oak House). If you want to be close to the library and university, allow Whitworth Park accommodation. The best of both world's is city center accommodation (you are in bus proximity to the city centre & the university) The university isn't generous with scholarships, so if you have better options like LSE or UCL, please pivot to those, as they are better value for money in terms of reputation as well as curriculum. I was studying law, & it was a decent experience. Please buy a bus pass at the start of the semester.
Likes (Indian Food): Indian restaurants are on every corner; you will find plenty of places to eat Indian food at. My personal favorite is ITR (Indian Tiffin Room). Try their Cheese Dosa; it's hands down better than India. The Indian food outside is obviously expensive (so please learn how to cook your own meals if you're on a budget). You can get Indian groceries easily.
Dislikes (Part time work): Finding a legal & decent part-time job is quite hard. The main reason being preference for cash workers (many businesses prefer to hire cash in hand workers, who work below legal wage (this is extremely common in Desi businesses/places)). In Manchester, all the jobs near "CURRY LANE" are of this category. Cash in hand again isn't easy, as the UK has a lot of illegal immigrants & refugees. *Never work cash in hand, as not only are you at a serious legal risk, but you will be completely exploited at work. Overall finding legal jobs is a challenge, as Manchester is a study-centric place with students of all kinds (the competition is fierce). Tips: Students should inquire about the modules and other facilities provided by the university. Alongside this, the safety of the city is also something important to look into. Also check if the university is city-based or campus-based, depending on the kind of lifestyle one wants to have. Campus-based universities are situated in the countryside and can feel a little remote. Studying in a city-based university means everything is nearby, and you don't have to spend hours on public transport to go out for a social outing.
Likes (Public transportation): Getting around Manchester as a student is ridiculously easy and cheap, which is why I gave public transport a top rating. For starters, the 147 bus runs straight down Oxford Road through the main university campus and is totally free if you show your student ID. Plus, the Free Bus routes 1 and 2 make getting around the city centre and going between Piccadilly and Victoria stations completely free for everyone.
For everything else, Andy Burnham’s Bee Network has made bus travel super affordable. Single fares are capped at £2, and no matter how many buses you hop on in a single day, you'll never pay more than £5 total. Between the constant buses running up and down Oxford Road and the Metrolink trams connecting you to places like Salford Quays or Didsbury, you honestly don't need a car at all.
Dislikes (Internships): I gave internships a low rating because my specific modules didn't offer any built-in placement options or course-integrated internships. You are pretty much expected to hunt for opportunities on your own through external job boards or the university’s Handshake portal.
While the University of Manchester Careers Service is useful for fixing up your CV or running mock interviews, they don't hand out placements or match you directly with employers. The UK internship market around Greater Manchester—and across the UK in general—is brutally competitive right now. Unless your degree has a built-in placement year, you have to do all the legwork yourself. Finding time to apply to dozens of places while handling a full course load at Manchester gets overwhelming fast.

Tips: The university is heavily academic. Come ready, for you have to read a lot of papers and write research papers. Try to live in student accommodation (either from the university or private), as it significantly reduces your stress. These accommodations organize events that allow you to network with students outside of your cohort.
Likes (Public transportation): I gave it a 5 because getting around Manchester is just incredibly cheap and easy. They use the yellow Bee Network buses and Metrolink trams here, and everything has a daily spending cap. You basically won’t cross five quid a day for bus fares, no matter how much you're hopping on and off. The city center and the main campus along Oxford Road are also completely walkable, so if you land a student house nearby in a spot like Fallowfield, you can honestly save a massive chunk of money just by walking to your lectures. Plus, having Manchester Airport sitting right on the direct train line within the city limits makes traveling back home or catching international flights entirely stress-free.
Dislikes (Internships): The university provides career workshops and guidance, but they don't have any dedicated placement cell for internships. They give sessions for CV review, interview preps, etc., but no specific companies come for special drives. You need to make your own connections, ask for opportunities, and network to get those positions.

Research and multidisciplinary focussed university
Tips: It gives immense opportunity for research and scope for development in the field but there are few opportunities for placement. There are scholarships available and it's good to apply for them but the housing is expensive, especially those offered by the university. It's a cultural shift in terms of freedom and autonomy offered to students and highly commendable for the research and courses they offer and the way they teach.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The professors here are incredible—they’re massive names in their fields, but they’re still completely down-to-earth and will genuinely go out of their way to help you out. The teaching is honestly top-tier. They don't just stand there lecturing at you—they give you real, brutal feedback to actually make you better. But honestly, the real trick here is just surviving the sheer volume of work. They dump the reading lists on you way ahead of time. If you don't skim through that stuff before class starts, you are going to be completely lost from minute one. Pre-reading is the only way to stay afloat, because then you can walk into office hours with specific, smart questions instead of just staring blankly at them. If you actually use those office hours right, the faculty will do whatever it takes to help you nail the material.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Few companies offer post-study work visas, and very few are available in the domain. The university does not provide opportunities to interact with employers in the space. There are very few opportunities available in the UK to settle in this domain. The economy is not growing well, and this may not be the top choice for recruiters in this field specifically.

Tips: If you're heading to the University of Manchester, you're going to have a great time, but you seriously need to brace yourself for how independent everything is—both in the classroom and in daily life. Do yourself a favor and skim through your lecture notes before class every single day. Even just a quick look gives you enough context to actually open your mouth during class discussions, which is the easiest way to get noticed by your professors. You have to be proactive here; nobody is going to hand you anything. You’re expected to take the initiative, drive your own job applications, network like crazy, and hunt down opportunities yourself.
Moving here was honestly a pretty smooth transition for me. The only real hurdle at first was just getting used to all the different accents, but you adapt to that pretty quickly. People in the UK are generally super polite, helpful, and respectful, which makes settling in a lot easier. I didn't get a scholarship myself, but I knew a few people who managed to land one or two. My biggest tip is to jump onto the official Manchester website early and filter your search specifically by your course, nationality, and department. The criteria change constantly, so you want to check early and get your application in before the deadline closes. Overall, I’m really happy with my choice. Manchester has a massive international student crowd, and since there are so many Indian students around, you never feel completely isolated or out of place.
Likes (Indian Food): One of the best things about living in Manchester is that you are completely spoiled for choice when it comes to Indian food. Honestly, finding familiar groceries, snacks, vegetables, and household stuff is incredibly easy here, which makes settling into life abroad so much smoother for Indian students. The city—and honestly the whole UK—is packed with Indian restaurants and outlets. If you are craving proper Indian street food, Chit 'n' Chaat is a fantastic spot to grab things like dahi papdi chaat or samosa chaat. When you want a proper sit-down North Indian meal with great vibes and amazing taste, places like Bardez and Dishoom are definitely the go-to options.
For your daily cooking you can easily hunt down staples like Maggi, Kurkure, Haldiram snacks, proper spices and even veggies like brinjal and bottle gourd at local convenience stores like Worldwide or Asian Superstore. The only real catch is that eating out or ordering takeaway all the time will absolutely destroy your budget. From my experience, a single restaurant meal can easily run you around £25 per person. Because of that, I heavily prefer cooking my own food at home—it’s just way more affordable at the end of the day.
Dislikes (Value for money): Studying at the University of Manchester definitely gave me that international exposure I was looking for, but if I’m being completely honest, the massive price tag didn’t match what we actually got. My Master’s fees alone were £28,000—which works out to well over 33 lakhs in INR once you convert it. That is a massive chunk of money to drop on a degree. While the modules and subjects were definitely useful, it was pretty frustrating to realize that a huge portion of the material is stuff you can literally watch for free on open-source platforms like YouTube or NPTEL. Even the case studies and textbooks they used felt exactly like the ones my friends were studying back home at the IITs and IIMs. Looking at it strictly from a classroom perspective, the academic value just didn’t justify that crazy high tuition fee.
For me, the real saving grace of the program was just the experience of being abroad. Getting to learn from international professors, collaborating with classmates from all over the world, and navigating a completely new culture was definitely life-changing. But when it came to landing a job, the career support was a massive reality shock. Coming from India, you expect a proper placement cell where companies actually come to campus, host rounds, and hand out job offers. Manchester doesn't work like that at all. Their career hub basically just tells you to go out there, network, and hunt down opportunities entirely on your own.

Tips: One thing I really want you to focus on. Is it that there are going to be times when you feel that you do not belong there because you miss your family? You miss your culture. You miss your festivals, and that was mostly around Diwali time with me. Although there is a dedicated Indian society of Manchester, all the festivals are celebrated, and you will feel at home, but then looking at your parents missing your sibling is going to cause a little trouble, but you do not have to worry about it. We get enough of a vacation break when you can travel back. You can avail yourself of scholarships, and after you get your offer letter, the university team automatically sends your mail, where you have 2 to 3 options from which you can choose. In my automatic scholarship of £2000 for the first year, if you meet a set of conditions, which are not very hard to meet, you get a £7000 scholarship every year. You have to keep in mind that the weather is not going to be very pleasant, especially for inventors. It's going to be very rainy, very windy, and very cold. You do not have to bring your clothes from India. The UK is the best place to buy your winter clothes from; consider Primark, please. First year, I wasn't ready I was homesick because I had so much to explore and so much to look forward to: going to college every day, same places, meeting people. I did not get the time to feel very lonely or away from home, but then second year hit my way. You already know how things are supposed to be done. You know where your colleges are; you know people; you've MET them, so you tend to miss your family a little, but that's part of life, but this time at college at your university is going to be the best time you could have ever had in your life.
Likes (Safety): If I had the option, I would give my university and UK 10 instead of five. There is campus safety where cars are all over around the campus and the city to SEE if something is wrong and to ensure the safety of the students. At the campus, security takes around all over The campus buildings are also really safe, and if safety in general is not talked about and safety is gone into by considering emotional safety and mental safety, then no one can top the University of Manchester. They make such a big deal just for taking care of whether you are okay or not. If you miss some lectures, they're always there to figure out if there is any problem that you're facing because of it and you're not able to attend those lectures. You have your academic advisory to guide you all through your journey. The University of Manchester and Manchester overall are very safe.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Honestly, there is so much that is offered on the late, but why did I give it a four? It is just because of the fact that there is too much competition and the job market in the UK is just not ready for it. If you want to get a job there, you have to work really hard and apply to like 200 applications to get into one of them. There are so many options; the rules and the salary packages are generally really nice, with a minimum of like £25,000 per annum after you graduate The one mark I cut is just because the quantity of graduates applying is much less than the number of jobs that are offered. The job market in the UK is slow as for now, but it is something that has been worked upon.

Tips: Before you sign up, you need to know that while the University of Manchester gives you insane academic and research opportunities, they fully expect you to handle independent learning without any hand-holding. If you can’t manage your own time, you will drown. Moving over here from India was a massive shock to the system at first—especially trying to get used to the miserable gray weather and a completely different lifestyle—but I managed to find my feet pretty quickly.
Honestly, since I’m on a fully funded program, I’m incredibly happy with Manchester, my course, and life in the UK overall. It’s given me a massive launchpad to grow both personally and professionally, making the entire crazy transition completely worth it.
Likes (Public transportation): I rated it 5 because Manchester has excellent public transport and the university is very well connected to the rest of the city. Buses, trams, and trains are easily available, and I have never felt the need for a car. It's affordable and reliable and makes computing on campus and to other places convenient.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I gave it a 3 because there are good job opportunities, but finding a role with visa sponsorship can be difficult for international students. Some companies sponsor visas, especially in engineering, research, and pharmacy, but the competition is quite high.

Calm through the chaos- Navigating university life strategically.
Tips: Look, here’s the real deal. First off, get ready for an insane amount of self-study. Nobody is going to force you to go to class, and the independent reading is heavy. Also, force yourself to talk to people. Classes are scattered all over different buildings, meaning you see new faces constantly—don't freeze up, just use it to network.
As for societies? Don't just blindly join a million things. Be smart about what actually aligns with your goals. You're definitely going to hit some serious culture shock too, but don't lose who you are just trying to fit in. Adapt, sure, but keep your core intact.
Likes (Public transportation): Since Manchester has 3 big universities and a huge student population, the public transportation system is quite smooth running. In fact, most locals/non-students also use the bus and tram as their primary mode of travel. Apart from the once-in-a-while tram strike, you can get to universities and other parts of the city quite easily, and it is not as expensive—less than 2 pounds for a one-way bus ride and even less for the tram. I would recommend getting a student pass, as it makes things even more cost-effective.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent settlement post-education as an international student means you need a sponsored job. At the moment finding a job that has visa sponsorship is an issue, but luckily there is the 2-year paid post-study work visa that you can take to try and get employment. It is, however, quite a task to apply for hundreds of jobs and can take a toll on mental health, but that is up to the individual student if it is worth the struggle. In my case I didn't want to stay there long-term, so I found other ways to progress my career outside the UK

Tips: Look, moving from India to Manchester was honestly just a massive jump—it was exciting, sure, but also way more overwhelming at first than I'd planned for. Between trying to survive the freezing weather and just figuring out a totally different uni system, those first few weeks were honestly just a bit of a blur. You really have to be ready to put yourself out there and just start looking for any volunteering or part-time gigs you can find to get some experience. Since I didn’t have any scholarships or anything like that to fall back on, I basically had to be proactive from day one. It’s a lot to take in, especially with the food and the social side of things being so different, but you just have to dive in and figure it out as you go. It’s just a lot.
Likes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking myself. I got all the ingredients options near by the University campus. It is very accessible and easy to shop for Indian groceries. There are many south Asian cafes, restaurants and shops in the campus near Curry mile Road. The pricing is okay.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Look, with the way the rules for staying here just keep on changing all the time lately, you really have to stop and think about what you actually want before you even look at the long haul. Honestly, I’m not really leaning toward the UK for PR or anything anyway. Given my background and everything, I’m pretty sure I’d have a decent chance at getting it if I actually wanted to—it’s just not where my head is at right now. I guess you just have to figure out what really matters to you before jumping into any massive life decisions like that. It’s just a lot to weigh up.

Strong faculty, academically inclined, but poor career support.
Tips: Manchester + Uom genuinely changed me. I'd lived abroad in Sweden before, so moving countries wasn't new, but Manchester hits different. Manchester feels different, cloudy, social, and full of character. Living here has made me more patient and open-minded just by living in such a diverse place. It is also super safe compared to India, and that safety unlocks a new kind of confidence; you start feeling like the world is your playground. I become more independent, more secure in my own style, and more me. Day-to-day is very "Oxford Road main arc" where life circles lectures, library, coffee runs, and constantly running into people because the whole stretch is basically student central. When I am not in lectures, I am mostly hiking around speak district, people watching around NQ, or on my way to inhale food on Curry Mile. And the rain is super annoying at first, but as you go through the seasons, you go from gloomy to romanticising the rain, where later on you huddle up and imagine yourself as an indie movie character. Academically, the University of Manchester is strong. For data Science, a lot of teaching staff are from other departments, so they are genuinely experts in their fields. All the professors are warm and welcoming in general. I would suggest the university for students who want to pursue further studies. A lot of students secured partial and full ride schlorhsip, especially within the school of engineering and AMBS. Overall, being in university is strong academically, but there is not much support career wise 70% of the class always move back home, and the rest struggle due to international passports and strict government regulations. Even though I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, I think it is a better option to apply in the EU or Australia.
Dislikes (Internships): The University of Manchester has a dedicated careers centre but the support feels more like it only exists in theory. The practical support available for postgrad students seeking internships is limited in effectiveness. The opportunities are mostly available to students who already carry relevant work experience (2+ years) in their home country or are British passport holders. Many capable fresh college graduates struggle to secure a job despite making active efforts. There are no readily available internships; the university does have some programs in different schools, such as engineering or medicine but again these resources are mostly centred around undergrad students.

Tips: For my particular course which was the MBA, it is vital to have solid work experience. This is important for doing well in the course and for getting a job later. -There are many cultural differences as compared to India, but a student will experience them only when they arrive here. You need to be more outgoing as compared to India, be able to hold conversations with a barista of a coffee shop as well as a director in a company. Manchester is very diverse and is a wonderful city for students, very vibrant, very happening and not as expensive. I was awarded a scholarship of 7000 GBP based on my work experience and GMAT score. I was awarded this by the university and did not apply for it separately. Very satisfied with everything, I believe this is the best value for money MBA among the top business schools in the UK.
Likes (Safety): Manchester is a safe town, in general UK is quite safe. I have been around the city at 3 AM too and never felt unsafe. There are probably one or two streets where I would not venture out alone at night but for the most part it is safe. I have never had any bad incidents. The most popular crime that takes place is phone snatching, but there is a very easy solution to this, which is not to use your phones while walking on the street.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Various global cuisines are available in Manchester which is the most vibrant city in the UK outside of London. Indian food options are quite limited/average compared to other UK cities. I usually prefer cooking myself but occasionally eat out too.

If you are eligible, the university takes you into consideration without having to apply. I am quite satisfied with the university and the country. However, I would have liked it if the course had been paced more effectively and we had been taught more relevant material.
Likes (Indian Food): It is a cultural hub and you can find any cuisine quite easily. Especially in Manchester there is a street called Curry Mile which has shops from India, Pakistan and even Middle Eastern countries. The pricing varies from shop to shop. I prefer cooking my food because it allows me to put as much spice in the food as I want.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I'm not sure how many companies offer sponsored visas, but there are quite a few. Sponsorship is not based on the role; however, roles in AI and data Science see more sponsorship. For a sponsored role, your salary should be above 32,000 GBP while junior roles tend to start from 24,000-26,000 GBP.

Good courses and high competition.
Tips: The business and STEM courses are among the most popular programs here so the quality of education is high and so is demand hence, course registration can and will get intense. The city is very vibrant and cheaper to live as compared to cities like London. Very global campus and professors are very good at what they do. Part time work is limited so you'll have to keep trying for one that fits your schedule.

Great faculty and coursework.
Tips: I transitioned positively after coming here. I didn't experience major culture shock, but it took me a while to understand the accents. Indian food is surprisingly good and the campus has adequate representation. The course work is challenging but helpful for personal growth.

The university is good but can do better in terms of administration and student services.
Tips: I was quite confused at the start but the student body is helpful and so are the professors. The university can do better in terms of administration and student services, but other than that, Manchester is a nice and liveable city. Winters are brutal, and things shut down early in the evening. The maximum you can work is 20 hours, so be very careful to maintain that.

The university is good and classes are collaborative and engaging.
Tips: Learn to make your own interpretations, as classes are not based on rote learning or mugging up from the textbooks. The professors are keen to hear your thoughts and opinions out loud, and classes are collaborative as well. Lots of fellow Indians and Indian food places are spread around the city. The city of living is less than London but high nonetheless.
