According to the Educational Testing Service, the GRE General Test in India costs INR 22,000, while the Subject Test costs INR 14,500. These are the standard fees, but additional costs may apply for rescheduling, late registration, or sending extra score reports. ETS is the conducting body of this popular standardised test.
Additional Charges Related GRE Fees
- GRE Exam Rescheduling: There will be additional charges if you want to change your GRE test date or location.

GRE Reschedule Fee
Candidates who reschedule their GRE General Test registrations are required to do so no later than four days before the test date, or the GRE exam fee will be forfeited. Candidates would be required to pay INR 5,000 as a GRE rescheduled fee for rescheduling their GRE test. Apart from this, candidates are charged INR 5,000 as a GRE Subject change fee if they want to change a subject in the GRE Subject Test.
Candidates wanting to avail of additional services would be required to pay an extra GRE fee for the same. GRE test fees for special handling requests for services are mentioned below.

GRE Score Reporting Fee
At the time of GRE registration, the GRE fees also include the candidate’s scores being sent to four universities/institutions. Candidates who wish to send their GRE score to more universities than the pre-designated four can do so by paying an extra GRE score-sending fee. What is GRE Cancellation Fee?
Candidates who wish to cancel their GRE General Test must do so no later than four days before their test date to be eligible to receive a refund equivalent to half of the GRE test fee. Candidates should note that there are no cash refunds, and the refund amount will be in US Dollars and will be credited back to the original credit/debit card or bank account via which the payment was made.
Things to Keep in Mind About GRE Refund Policy
- Cancel 4 Days Before: To receive a refund of the GRE cancellation, you must cancel your test at least 4 days before your scheduled test date.
- Refund Amount: You will get 50% of your GRE test fee if you cancel on time. It is not 100% refundable. The refund will be processed to the same account/card you used to pay for the booking. NOT IN CASH!
- No Refund for Extras: Only half of the main test fee is refunded. Payments for extra services, such as score reports, prep materials, or special service fees, are non-refundable.
- Non Refundable Situations: If you cancel the test less than 4 days before the test, or are absent, late, or bring the wrong/invalid ID to the test centre. In this case, no refund will be processed.
- Refund Processing Time: ETS takes 15 business days to process a refund of the GRE cancellation fee.
