IISc Bangalore Highlights 2025
IISc Bangalore was founded in 1909 as a Public University in Bangalore. Jamsetji Tata was one of the founding fathers of IISc Bangalore, and hence it is also known as the 'Tata Institute'. The IISc Bangalore campus is spread over 400 acres. IISc Bangalore University is ranked 1st by NIRF 2025 under the Universities category, and 2nd under the 'Overall' category. Globally, it was ranked 211 by QS World University Rankings 2025. The university is affiliated to the the All Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). It has also been accredited NAAC ‘A++’ grade by UGC.
The IISc Bangalore offers UG, PG and research programmes and has 45 departments offering 738 programmes. Some popular programmes are BSc (Research), BTech (Mathematics and Computing), MTech, MDes, MSc, and PhD programmes in various disciplines such as Engineering, Science, and Management. The IISc Bangalore BSc fees is INR 40,000. The duration of the course is four years. The eligibility criteria for admissions should pass Class 12 with 60% aggregate and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are the compulsory subjects in their qualifying exam along with any other subjects. The entrance exam accepted includes JEE Main, JEE Advanced, IISER Entrance Exam, NEET.
Candidates need to pass Class 12 or equivalent from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language and any subject other than the above four to apply for IISC Bangalore BTech programme. The selection to BTech course is based on JEE Advanced score.
Candidates who want to takeM.Techadmissions should have scored a minimum of 50-70 % aggregate in graduation. Also, the candidates should also have cleared the GATE exam for IISc admission. IISC Bangalore offers different programmes, including undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, PG Diplomas, and Certificate courses. All the programmes are available in full-time mode. IISc Bangalore considers JEE Advanced scores for admission to BSc and BTech programmes. JEE Advanced is usually conducted in May every year. Once the exam is conducted, the conducting IIT releases response sheet and provisional answer key. Once the JEE Advanced results are out, JoSAA Counselling starts.
Candidates seeking admission to IISc Bangalore can apply online on the IISc Admissions Portal, i.e., official website. Click the ‘Apply Now’ tab under the M.Tech course name and reach the registration page. Click on ‘New user Registration/ Login’ then select the programme and again click on ‘New user to register click here’. Applicants must use their email IDs to register (email ID cannot be changed later) preferably gmail. After registration, a verification email is sent to the registered email account, by confirming the email one can start filling out the online application. The application fee is non-refundable and can be paid online via debit card, credit card or net banking.

If one happens to reach Majestic, Bengaluru by bus, go to the city bus platform number 22, from where almost all city buses come to the Institute.
