1. Germany
Germany uses its own inverted 1.0 (best) to 5.0 (fail) grading scale rather than a percentage-based CGPA system. Some universities in Russia and parts of Eastern Europe do use 5-point scales, but conversion methods vary by country and institution. 2. The UK
In the UK, undergraduate degrees use Honours classifications, and Indian percentage/CGPA is compared directly against these bands:
- First Class: 70%+ (or ~7.0+ CGPA)
- Upper Second (2:1): 60-69%
- Lower Second (2:2): 50-59%
- Third Class: 40-49%
There is no separate GPA/CGPA scale utilised in the UK, so Indian students need not make a conversion here.
3. Canada
Just like in India, there's no single formula for calculation of grades used across Canada. Canadian universities convert Indian percentages or a 10-point CGPA into a Canadian GPA (usually on a 4.0, 4.3, or 9.0 scale) based on the specific institution's academic context and grading norms. Most universities in Canada use the US-style 4.0 GPA scale, but Quebec institutions and some others differ.
