What is SGPA?

The full form of SGPA is Semester Grade Point Average and is the average of the grades that the student has obtained for a particular semester or term for the various courses he has opted for. SGPA is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of hours enrolled in the course. In order to improve student's learning experience, some universities and colleges have started using SGPA to evaluate students' performance in courses. This allows them to assess how well they are doing and how much they need to improve their grades.

CGPA meaning: Cumulative Grade Point Average or CGPA is the mean average GPA grade of the student that he has obtained in his university or college for the entire duration of the course. To measure the CGPA of a student, the GPA (Grade Point Average) of a student in all semesters are added and divided by the sum of his total credit hours. How to Convert CGPA to GPA: While most universities require candidates to submit their scores on a 10-point CGPA scale, some universities ask candidates to put forward their scores in the four-point GPA scale format. Candidates are not required to do the conversions by themselves and are taken care of by third-party agencies, candidates can still do a rough calculation for reference purposes only.

Candidates can use the formula provided below to convert 10 points CGPA to 4 points GPA: The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is computed by taking the mean of the GPA that a student receives in each semester and dividing it by the total number of credits. 

NOTE: Candidates should note that the formula mentioned above is only for the candidates to estimate their chances during the application process. Candidates would NOT be required to convert CGPA to GPA. Such conversions (if at all) would be handled by universities or university-appointed organisations. Here candidates looking to convert CGPA to percentage need to simply multiply the entire CGPA by 9.5 to get a percentage. For example, if a candidate has a CGPA score of 8.0, then the CGPA TO percentage conversion of this would be 8*9.5 equals 76%.
