Master of Statistics - Batch of 2025
3.8
A good university with better opportunities.
Tips: I think all the classes happen in a more practical way than theory unlike most colleges in India and that's the most amazing part about it t. There is not much exam pressure. There are easy subjects and sometimes putting in the best effort helps and it's very multicultural. Too good.
Likes (Indian Food): Since the Australian National University campus is in the city, there are so many options for indian food. Almost every convenience store also has samosas, kachoris etc. The quality of indian food here is absolutely phenomenal. I don't miss food back home too much because most of it is available here. However, it's quite expensive comparatively so I mostly prefer to cook at home but the quality of food is insane.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The Australian National University does not provide any career support for grades. Usually, companies like KPMG and EY will offer a package of 65,000. It might depend on a different major. I would say, start early and make sure to job hunt. Plus, networking is gold.

A happy, vibrant and balanced life.
Tips: Don't carry extra food from your home country. Everything is available. Join ANU clubs, attend ANU events, and follow all relevant Facebook groups. This will also help in making new friends. Make sure that your assignments are not plagiarized. Skim through your reading before classes
Refrain from making any racist remarks.
Likes (Indian Food): There are many Indian restaurants like Blu Ginger, Curry Twist, 7 on the Lake etc. Of course learning to cook is also important as it helps in saving money and it creates opportunities to make new friends. I preferred to cook for myself most of the time.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Given a chance, I would definitely have immigrated permanently. But the competition is tough in the job market. Even if you get the work visa, it might take a lot of time to get a full-time job, especially in Canberra. Although one can get casual or part-time jobs more easily than full-time.

There are limited internship opportunities for finance students, especially with external companies.
Tips: For my degree, although the semester one courses are marked as 'Introductory,' they are complex, especially Statistics. A certain level of mathematics knowledge will be beneficial before starting this. Last-minute studying will not work.
Likes (Indian Food): There are mostly Asian restaurants due to the high Asian population, and many Indian restaurants in the CBD. As food is quite expensive, I generally prefer to cook at home. Vegetarian options are limited but available, and there are plenty of other affordable options for students on the ANU campus.
Dislikes (Internships): There are limited internship opportunities for finance students, especially with external companies, particularly if you're on a student visa, as many Canberra businesses are government-affiliated, restricting international student employment. While the college offers guidance, it hasn't been very effective in securing jobs in this market. The Momentum program for CBE students provides excellent support, and it's particularly beneficial for new students if they don't have a mentor.

Make sure to fully utilize the facilities and resources provided by the university.
Tips: Make sure that you are using the facilities, which is the biggest mistake I made. Use the libraries and labs instead of studying in your room. Try to limit the days you work to let's say three days a week, and then focus on your studies for the remaining period. The buses are really good. They can be slow depending on where you live. However, if you are on campus, everything is accessible. Moreover, there are trams as well, which allow easier access. The transportation is affordable, with student fares around $1.60. If you are into sports, you will love ANU and Australia.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I'm still struggling to find a job. Most of the jobs are restricted to citizens for security reasons. Especially because Canberra is the capital of Australia. Usually, a new graduate tries to get into really competitive graduate roles. During the interviews, they focus more on behavioural skills over your hard skills.

Academically rigorous yet rewarding experience.
Tips: I received a scholarship that offset 50% of my academic fees. The transition initially was very difficult, especially when there was so much academic pressure. Be mentally prepared to spend more than 10 hours studying every week.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Heavily dependent upon government policies, which change on a year-to-year basis. Usually, the university does not play too much of a role in determining whether you will be able to immigrate. Studying abroad involves many more opportunities beyond immigration. You could also work in a different country apart from Australia.

A great experience so far with many opportunities and internships.
Tips: Canberra is a more relaxed town than most, so it may be slow-paced at times. However, the people are lovely and open-minded. Be wary of your expenses as the service industry is expensive compared to cheap labour in India. More than ANU's courses, the networking options and opportunities are what make the university a great value for money.

ANU: A second home away from home.
Tips: Canberra is a diverse city but it lacks cultural food options for South Asians especially Sri Lankans and South Indians. It is difficult to find good imported foods from India and Sri Lanka in Canberra compared to other cities like Melbourne or Sydney. Besides the transportation facility is very affordable convenient and easily accessible. There are lots of internship opportunities available so you need to find one that matches your schedule.

A leap for good challenges that will shape you for life.
Tips: Students must be aware of referencing, and academic style of writing and have fundamental knowledge in the field they are going to study. Students must also be well aware of resources and facilities for them by their department and the university. I experienced culture shock in terms of how young adults earn, live by themselves and study, which is very different in India. The party culture, drinking culture and legal drugs were surprising to me. I love how multicultural and diverse the cohort is at the ANU.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty at the ANU is highly qualified and professional. The experience and work of the professors are exceptional. The faculty is very diverse and mostly all professors have their unique way of teaching. The professors are usually accessible by appointment and are supportive.
Dislikes (Value for money): It is an expensive country in general. The fee for international students is much more than what domestic students have to pay. A lot of university events are paid and hall events are usually very expensive. Anyone who is earning through a full-time job can take out the expenses easily which is a rare case.

The university was fun, easy-going with lots of things to grasp in very short amount of time.
Tips: The university is good and the city is good, and the people are fairly good, so it’s worth it in the end. Do some research, explore the job market, take as much help as you can from the careers department, and know your syllabus. You will also get a lot of freebies and opportunities for scholarships.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is good. You'll have plenty of events to attend. The student lounge and student union are super helpful during studies. Also, you get lots of freebies by attending events. The staff is good. There are lots of presentations involved, but everyone is easy-going and there's not a lot of pressure.

Good university for practical studying.
Tips: There are many resources available, so utilize them. Glasgow is an amazing city, and Scotland is a beautiful country with a lot to explore. There are also quite a few scholarships available, which are displayed in great detail.
Likes (Student Life): It’s a pretty liberal university, and people here are so nice and warm. The faculty members, staff and students are very friendly and accepting. Also, the University of Strathclyde has a very beautiful and wide campu,s and there are many hangout spots and places to study.
Dislikes (Internships): It's quite hard working on internships while being a full-time student, but it's not impossible. Some students have a good balance in managing their studies and internships. It also helps in future job prospects and there are quite a lot options available.

Modern and practical way of learning.
Tips: Glasgow is a very calm and beautiful city and people here are so warm and friendly. At the University of Strathclyde, the way of teaching is a very practical way of learning. There are many modules that help you learn the current trends and job requirements, which help you get ready for the market. Very friendly and liberal University, if you are stuck or lost somewhere, you can just ask somebody here. Everyone is happy to help here.
Likes (Public transportation): Glasgow has amazing public transport. I also like that there is rarely any traffic, even in the very busy city centre. People rarely honk their horns, too, which is nice. I also really like that I can walk anywhere I want to go. The vibe here is very chilled and relaxed.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are jobs available, but it's quite hard to get one, especially if you're studying for your master's degree and have so many assignments. However, it's not impossible. You just have to find the right way to apply for jobs and balance your university work and the job. It's all part of the experience, though.

University of Strathclyde is a friendly university.
Tips: I had a smooth transition to the University of Strathclyde. I became more independent and experienced a cultural shift. To apply for the scholarship, I went to the scholarship site, and after a review by the committee, I was awarded the scholarship of 3000 pounds, which reduced my final tuition fees.
Likes (Indian Food): There are plenty of options in Glasgow for Indian food. Even the locals are fans of Indian food, and many Indian restaurants have opened in recent years as the number of Indian students has increased. I prefer to cook at home, as eating out every day would be very expensive.
Dislikes (Value for money): For the number of offline classes, I don't think the tuition fee is justified and the course runs only for 8 months if you exclude holidays and exam time. I strongly believe a year course for the tuition fees charge is not at all justified. And also the labs and facilities are not up to the mark.

University Of Strathclyde is a place for innovation and creativity.
Tips: Students coming to Glasgow need to be prepared mentally to stay a year without old friends and family. Once you reach the city, you start your life with new friends who sometimes turn out to be like family. Get in contact with the Indian Co-Coordinator and follow up with them for more and more scholarship offers. The city is really amazing, not too costly as London but still costly. The people in Glasgow are really friendly, and the UK has a good name in Education and they try their best to deliver the same. But the only thing is it's a bit expensive.
Likes (Student Life): The student life in Strath is simply amazing. We just need to attend the class attentively and we have tutorial sections for almost each and every module we take. In which the importance given to practical knowledge is more. At Strath University it's believed that the Practical is derived from Theory, So we have a good balance of both Practical and theory classes.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I don't think it's easy to get settled in the UK right now. No companies are offering sponsorship, and the job market doesn't look so good. The situation is similar in many other parts of the world. The best approach is to complete your studies with confidence and start searching for jobs as early as possible.

It was worth studying at the University of Strathclyde.
Tips: If you come to a different country you will feel the culture change because of food, fashion, languages and other aspects. But no need to worry you will be very comfortable in a few days. I availed scholarship of 3000 before entering the UK but that was given to me by my agency. Many other people got scholarships of 10k GBP, if you feel you can write an essay about why you should get the scholarship and send it to the university and for this, you have to check the university page. Overall, I am totally satisfied with my university and course.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty is easily accessible and you can approach them if you want to discuss anything regarding your study in university. Most modules are taught on slides. To pass a degree, you have to clear your exams and assignments. There are faculty from different nationalities.
Dislikes (Part time work): I am not very much aware of university part-time opportunities and part-time is not always available in the university. But you can get part-time outside the university and a minimum pay rate which is set by the UK government. The most important and a little difficult task is to manage a part-time job with your regular classes. It gets a little hectic when you are working simultaneously on multiple assignments and regular classes and part-time simultaneously.

The public transportation facility is good however finding accommodation is tough.
Tips: Some courses have scholarships that students can apply for. Getting accommodation is quite difficult, so I would recommend trying to get accommodation as soon as possible. The university is pretty good and I think most people would enjoy it. The course is tedious at times but I never really found it that difficult.
Likes (Public transportation): There are 2 train systems that link all of Glasgow, and they both have stations within 5 minutes of the university buildings. Ticket costs are dependent on distance, but should max out at around 2 or 3 pounds. Train passes are very affordable and save you a ton of money if you constantly use the trains. Students can also avail of the numerous city buses depending on what works for them best.
Dislikes (Internships): There is a careers service at the university but they are more specialized in helping students improve their resume and work on their employability in general. Students need to look for relevant internships on their own, and the university will not go out of their way to help you in the application process.

Academically and athletically oriented university
Tips: Don't spend money on luxuries until you get a part time job. Rather than part time other facilities are incredible great and easy to use. One should get the winter jackets from superdry or north face because the quality compared to the price in which we get them is great and you'll need it throughout the year.
Likes (Value for money): Good facilities for students including gym and library which is open 24hrs in summers. Tuition fees is high compared to the coursework and the staff. Most of the staff speak fluent English while some of them have an accent which is really tough to understand.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Companies are willing to sponsor the visas for the students. If you have past experience in this field then it would be really helpful considering the post study jobs. Work environment looks decent until they are paying you good. Appreciate the offers you get in the beginning which will help you in future.

A great place for learning! It is fun to be here.
Tips: There is a vibrant Indian community in Glasgow. You can always find a piece of home here if you look for it. The cultural shift was not so much in my opinion. As long as you keep an open mind and a warm heart, you will find the college and Glasgow a great place to learn and grow. The faculty has an informal, eloquent and mostly funny way of teaching that keeps us engaged and curious. I was advised that scholarships don't exist but they do exist and most of my classmates saved a good amount of money. Overall, I am pleased with the college and the country. The people make Glasgow (pun intended) a great place to live, learn and enjoy.
Likes (Safety): The campus is close-knit and in the middle of the city centre. Due to the heavy student population in the surrounding area, the community is accustomed to international students and is mostly warm and welcoming. The Glasgow police as well as campus security are highly responsive. The city in itself is friendly and a mixed community. Problems rarely happen.
Dislikes (Internships): I believe there are internship options available for candidates. I have not explored the option and do not know anyone who explored it. Therefore, I cannot speak for the opportunities. I am aware that there are many internship openings but don't know about student selection.

Great sacrifices in university as it will cost you more.
Tips: There was no cultural shock as we commonly believe in India. I would suggest people coming to Strathclyde to just focus on their studies as it is a very reputable uni in Glasgow because people fail in many subjects due to lack of coordination and punctuality due to part-time. Also, get a good pair of jackets based on the weather conditions. Overall, the university is good. The rent is high for everything you will have to pay. Course modules are very good.
Likes (Indian Food): Food options are good, you get 4 to 5 Asian stores. Invest a bit more and you can get good groceries to prepare Indian food. It works when you stay in a group as it will reduce your budget. I don't prefer eating outside as it is very expensive. For a person, it will cost you Rs. 4000 to get a full meal and the quantity will still be less.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part-time is a bit clumsy as the pay is less. Getting a job is difficult unless you have a reference. It's like getting a full-time job, but there is a trick if you are good at driving you can buy a car for cheap and start doing delivery in dominos as you are allowed to have a license for a year.

Strathclyde Business School : An promising place for self starters
Tips: Ge accommodation ready before you land, or at least know someone who can look it up for you. Get comfortable with a little unease and be calm. The workload and group projects can be a little overwhelming but it is a lot better to follow up and keep working hard.
Likes (Public transportation): Glasgow is easily accessible and well connected via public transportation and the buses often drop you in front of your classroom doorstep. Even if you find yourself renting outside the city which is a lot cheaper, you can arrange for public transport to get from your place easily.
Dislikes (Internships): There are internships available but no one will go out of their way to tell you they are, like mostly done in Indian Institutes, you have to be proactive about looking for internships and the same goes for jobs.
The culture is very different but I did not explore it to that extent, the course is a year long so do exhaust all areas of opportunity.

Tips: Apart from the weather which is constantly rainy, the transition was pretty easy as there are so many Indian students. It is always easy when the roommates are from the same country. I did get a scholarship for my course and I recommend checking for it beforehand.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is very approachable, knowledgeable and kind when it comes to Strathclyde. This is especially true for mechanical engineering professors. Every professor is ready and willing to give their time to students. The quality of faculty available is undoubtedly great.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are good opportunities for work after studies, however, the majority of them do not involve students from mechanical engineering. There are good opportunities for students in data science, business analytics and other management courses. However, this might also be because the UK was in recession when I graduated in 2023.

Focus on studies instead of getting part time jobs
Tips: Get to know staff maybe connect with them on LinkedIn. Check whether the lecture happens online or offline since one of our modules is almost entirely online.
Along with that see how the marking scheme is for each module that you want to go for so it would help to plan your study in advance.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is good, cheap and less crowded.
You have lot of options to travel by bus, subway and train.
If you are about 20 years old then you get a free bus and train pass from the university which is great.
Entirely cashless if you just have card with you that is perfectly fine.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): They are approachable and also really helpful. However everthing has to be done by student-faculty is there to guide you on things but help you directly like spoon feeding.
There are also some lectures which happen online and do not help that much in studies

Focus on gaining skills and not part-time.
Tips: College does matter, your skillsets matter. It is just a degree. You need to know what you wanna do and become. Don't focus on the part time jobs either. Yes , I said it. A guy who worked for hours. You have one year, equip maximum skill with what you can. Plan, later you can definitely find a full-time role as well.
Likes (Safety): They do take care of students. Always cared for mental health as well. Have support teams to take care. Everybody is in their dream world so nothing is gonna be an issue unless you act upon it. The pricing is getting out of hand right now. So all the best.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The job market is way low and people are really worried about getting into jobs full-time. Many work part-time just thriving to achieve something, I hope they do.

Tough to find part-time jobs due to highly competitive market.
Tips: The only problem you will face in Scotland will be to understand Scottish English. The accent is very unique but I can say that after spending a few months among them you will get used to it. I had received a scholarship from the university to pursue my Masters.
Likes (Safety): There is no questions regarding safety in Glasgow. People behave well and are very welcoming. Whatever you want is easily available. There are many good Indian restaurants. The best part is that Glasgow is a very active city, there is always something happening around you.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part time jobs are hard to find right now. There are many international students coming to UK so the market is getting competitive. You can manage part-time job alongside your studies if you can manage your time well. The average payout is around 10.50 pounds per hour.

University leads me in new direction academically and socially.
Tips: The first and foremost thing that is needed is to be clear that after arriving here you have to be proactive and hardworking. Make good connections which will help in the coming future. Apart from that try to engage in social activities and talk to the local community which will help you to adapt to the culture.
