GMAT Focus Exam Pattern 

GMAC introduced the GMAT Focus Edition in 2023. The current GMAT exam or GMAT Focus is being conducted in full swing and being accepted across all top B-schools abroad. The GMAT syllabus has changed majorly for the Quantitative section. GMAT Focus Edition differs significantly from the previous GMAT exam. A new section, called Data Insights, has been introduced. On the other hand, Sentence Correction (SC), and Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) have been removed. Check out the complete GMAT Exam Pattern below:

What has Changed in GMAT's Quant Section?

The GMAT Focus Edition syllabus differs from the previous GMAT exam syllabus. The GMAT Quant syllabus 2025 has also seen an upgrade Here is what has changed on the GMAT Focus syllabus 2025:

  • A brand-new section, called Data Insights, based on IR (Integrated Reasoning) has been introduced. It contains Data Sufficiency, a part of the latest GMAT Quantitative Reasoning section. 
  • Also, earlier on the GMAT Quantitative syllabus consisted of 4 broad topics: Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Modern Math. Only two of them are part of the GMAT Quantitative Reasoning syllabus.
  • The time of QR has also been reduced; earlier it was for 55 minutes, and now it is for 45 minutes.
  • Earlier on, there were 31 questions in the Quant section, and now there are just 23 questions.

  • Start: Begin by understanding the GMAT pattern and the GMAT syllabus. Make a schedule and prepare for the toughest topic on the QR GMAT Focus.
  • Resources: Start with the GMAT books or official study material. Once you have completed the official study material at least twice, you can move on to Manhattan GMAT Guides, Magoosh YouTube videos, and Veritas study material. You must refer to the GMAT Club, Beat the GMAT, and Thursdays with Ron as part of your GMAT preparation at home.
  • Consistency: Consistency is the key to success. Understand that preparing for the GMAT exam, especially for this section, can be tricky, but students should keep up with their prep pace.
  • GMAT Mock Tests: Make sure you appear for a full-length GMAT mock test every weekend. You must analyse your performance and make necessary changes to your plan.

The GMAT exam format is developed to test applicant's business aptitude. The exam is divided into three sections, which are tested over 2 hours and 15 minutes along with an optional 10-minute break.
