Your IELTS Test Results: A Guide to Understanding and Sharing Your TRF: Master the English language and unlock opportunities with a strong IELTS score. This guide explains everything you need to know about your IELTS Test Report Form, the official document showcasing your English proficiency.
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS exam) is an English Language Test that assesses your Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking skills. The IELTS exam has two modules: Academic and General Training. The IELTS Academic is for students who wish to study in countries where English is the native language, and the IELTS General is for those who wish to apply for PR or jobs in English-speaking countries. A candidate is supposed to provide his/her IELTS TRF (Test Report Form) to the organization that requires IELTS scores as proof of English proficiency.
The IELTS TRF full form is Test Report Form. It is the official scorecard given to every IELTS test taker and is valid for two years. In 2025, candidates receive one TRF copy, which can be used for university admissions, immigration, and professional applications. Apart from the main TRF, students may also request Additional Test Report Forms (ATRF) to send their IELTS scores to institutions worldwide. The TRF includes your IELTS registration number, overall band score, and sectional scores. Candidates can also track and send their TRF electronically or by post, depending on the institution’s requirement.
Five IELTS TRFs can be processed without any charges. The five TRFs are meant for those institutions that have been mentioned on your IELTS application form.
The IELTS TRF validity is for 2 years.

What is IELTS TRF (Test Report Form)?
The IELTS TRF is a copy of a candidate’s IELTS exam result. Every candidate is issued only one IELTS TRF. The validity of an IELTS TRF is for 2 years. If a candidate is applying to CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) or UKBA (United Kingdom Border Agency), he/she will receive two Test Report Forms. To get two TRFs issued, the candidate must give proof of application to UKBA and CIC.
The first five Test Report Forms (TRFs) are processed without any charges. These five TRFs are for the institutions that you mentioned on your application form at the time of your IELTS registration. Beyond these five, any Additional Test Report Forms (ATRFs) will involve an administrative charge of INR 250 per university. The TRFs are sent to universities either electronically or physically.
Candidates who have taken the paper-based IELTS exam, receive their IELTS score and their TRF on the 13th day after the exam. Whereas, those who have taken a computer-based IELTS exam, receive their scores in 3-5 days after the exam.
What is IELTS ATRF (Additional Test Report Form)?
The processing of the first five Test Report Forms (TRF) does not require any additional charges. However, if the candidate wants to send his/her score to more universities and institutions, then he/she has to opt for Additional Test Report Forms (ATRF) on a chargeable basis. The offline (in-person) applications for ATRF are not accepted. Only online applications are accepted for the following reasons:
- Doing away with the requirement of visiting any IDP branch
- No delay in courier time
- ATRFs are acknowledged instantaneously via email
- The processing time of applications gets reduced

IELTS TRF Verification
IELTS is used as evidence of English language proficiency by universities, colleges, and immigration authorities. After the exam, a candidate is provided a TRF. To check whether the TRF is genuine or not, there is an online verification system. The concerned university, college, or immigration authority can verify your scores with the help of your complete TRF numbers. Only those organizations that recognize IELTS are eligible to use the IELTS verification service.

How to Send Your IELTS Score to Institutions?
Candidates can send their IELTS scores to five institutions within one month of the exam date. The institutions receive the scores via e-mail, regular posts, courier, or overseas postage.
In case, a candidate wishes to apply for more than five TRFs, then he/she has to raise a request online on the IELTS IDP website. A charge of INR 250 is levied per institution. The scores are sent to the institutions either electronically or physically depending on the option the candidate chooses. Physical mode requires the candidates to pay an extra courier charge of INR 1500.
However, those institutions and employers who have subscribed to IELTS can access a candidate’s TRF online. They do not require the original copies of the TRFs.
