Liverpool University History & Background
Uni of Liverpool began as the University College in 1881, officially opening its doors in 1882 to around 45 students, 6 chair positions, and 2 lectureships. Ashton Street is where the university set up its first building. In 1884, it joined the Victoria University along with the colleges of Leeds and Manchester. Construction of the iconic Victoria Building, made of red bricks, began in 1889 and eventually opened in 1892 by Lord Spencer.
