IIT Roorkee was established in 1847 and is the seventh IIT recognised as an Institution of National Importance. IIT Roorkee is NAAC accredited and AICTE &UGC approved . IIT Roorkee is a public technical research university located in Uttarakhand. The college is the oldest technical institution in Asia that was given university status in 1949. According to the NIRF ranking 2025, the institute ranked 1 in Architecture category and 6 in Engineering category.
IIT Roorkee course admission is based on the entrance exam. To get admission, the institute accepts entrance exams such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, IIT JAM, CEED, and NATA. IIT Roorkee under its Department of Management Studies (DOMS) offers a two-year MBA programme across five specialisations. It is a full-time residential programme which is divided into eight terms. MBA admission at IIT Roorkee is offered based on CAT score, followed by the performance of candidates in the PI round. However, JEE Advanced-qualified IIT Graduates with CGPA 7 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from the initial shortlisting process and are directly called for the PI round. The selection criteria is divided into two caregories:
Category-1 (Graduates applying on the basis of CAT score) - CAT score: 60%, PI: 30%, Work experience: 10%
Category-2 (IIT graduates admitted through JEE Advanced) - PI: 100%

IIT Roorkee offers a four-year BTech programme across 11 specialisations along with a five-year integrated BTech + MTech programmes across two specialisations. The BTech course is the flagship programme of IIT Roorkee. The selection of candidates for the IIT Roorkee BTech programme is based on their JEE Advanced score. To be eligible for the same, aspirants must have completed their Class 12 with a valid score.
The centralised counselling process is managed and regulated by the JoSAA, based on which the candidates are allotted seats.
