Given below are the FAQs about the scholarships offered at IIT Roorkee:
In the Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme, BTech student gets his/her tuition fee waived as per the following criteria.
Full Tuition Fee Waiver– Offered to the most economically backward students having a family income of less than INR 1 LPA during the previous financial year or current assessment year.
2/3 Tuition Fee Waiver– Offered to economically backward students having a family income in the range of INR 1 LPA to INR 5 LPA during the previous financial year or current assessment year
The Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme is available only for the normal duration of the programme. For dual degree programmes, it is available only up to the 4th year.
Under the Free Messing scheme, a student can avail of a free messing (only basic menu) facility and a pocket allowance of INR 250 per month. Such students are also exempted from payment of hostel room rent. In case a student does not seek free messing, he/she gets a pocket allowance of INR 1,000 per month. To avail Free Messing scheme, a student is expected to fulfil the following conditions:
- Applicant belongs to SC or ST category.
- The applicant is a student of BTech, BArch, Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), Integrated Master of Technology (IMT), Integrated Master of Science (IMS), and BS-MS programmes admitted through JEE (Advanced) or MSc programmes admitted through JAM.
- The Gross Income of parents (Father and Mother or Guardian) during the previous financial year is not more than INR 5 LPA.
IIT Roorkee offers three different scholarships to its Btech students. Each scholarship is aimed at providing financial aid to deserving and meritorious students of the college. Listed below are the available scholarships along with the eligibility criteria:
1. MCM Scholarship
- Applicant belongs to General or General (EWS) or OBC category.
- Gross Income of parents (Father and Mother or Guardian) during the current assessment year is not more than INR 5,00,000
- Should have obtained at least 60% marks in aggregate or a grade corresponding to 60% marks in the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced
2. Inspire She Scholarship
- Applicant is a student of Integrated MSc programmes from Department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics
- Gross Income of parents (Father and Mother or - Guardian) during the current assessment year is not more than INR 5,00,000
3. James Thomason Scholarship
Applicant must have secured All India Rank (AIR) in recent JEE (Advanced) up to 250

The highest amount of scholarship is offered under the MCM scholarship. In this scholarship IIT Roorkee offers various benefits. A student availing MCM scholarship will get INR 1,000 per month for 10 months per academic year and refund of the remaining tuition fee.

The tuition fee waiver / concession in IITs and NITs are as follows:
For GEN and OBC students having annual family income less than Rs. 1 Lacs and all SC, ST & PwD students: 100% tuition fee waiver. Only fee in other heads like exam fee, hostel and mess fee, gymkhana fee, etc., need to be paid.
For GEN and OBC students having annual family income between Rs. 1 Lacs and Rs. 5 lakh: 2/3rd waiver in tuition fee. Only 33.33% of tuition fee need to be paid.
For GEN and OBC students having annual family income above Rs. 5 Lacs or those students who are not desirous of obtaining fee waiver or have not submitted income certificate: Full tuition fee need to be paid.
